Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? coming to the US in February
The awesomely-named Prinny: Can I Really Be the Hero? is coming to the States this February, according to Siliconera. The gorgeous 2D platformer features Disgaea's oft-pathetic mascot, Prinny, in a new adventure which is said to be "tough as nails." Uh-oh. For those of you that want some Contra-like bad memories, you may want to try the Hell Mode, which will kill your character in just one hit. Yay?

Is there a U.S demo coming any time soon?
Squirtbot @ Nov 5th 2008 4:20PM
So glad to hear it... Come On Prinny!

The demo was not that good; to be honest, it was terrible. But being the only platformer to be announced for the PSP these days, I can see why people are thrilled about this game.

It wasn't terrible. They are just going for an incredibly hard, old school style (read bad controls) platformer with updated graphics.
Sort of like Ultimate Ghosts N Goblins.
Of course, it will probably suffer the same fate, getting bad reviews and tanking in terms of sales. But that clearly seems to be what they are going for (the 1000 lives is pretty much a dead giveaway).

I read those reviews for Ultimate Ghost N Goblins and ended up never buying the game... until recently (when the price went down). Its such a great game and addictive. If Prinny is anything like UGNG, then I'll pay full price for it the day it comes out!
Plus, every other game that comes out, is some sort of RPG or shooter... those just aren't for me.

Actually, I'm eagerly awaiting this game because I really enjoyed playing the demo, and if this game will be as good as demo is then it'll be one of my favourite games for PSP.
After watching the gameplay video I was disapointed, it seemed like a very simplistic platformer without any depth. But playing it changed my opinon, it has cleverly designed gameplay that is challenging and satisfying. I ended up playing it numerous times and getting the A rank on normal difficulty and B rank on hard. It's great that I'll be able to start torturing Prinnys in this gruesome quest for sweets so soon.

Maybe a european version one day?

I hope they re-name it to Prinny: Is It Ok If I Am The Main Character Dood?
Not having Dood in the title is a crime...
HiddenEmerald @ Nov 5th 2008 7:11PM
well, that gives me a good 4 months to get my ass out there to buy a psp, dood. Already know the games im gonna buy for it, but I need a bit more money
Shoyz @ Nov 5th 2008 6:46PM
I beat IWBTG; but I've still never beaten level 1 on Contra. No wanting to. >:

I went through the trouble of making a Japanese PStore account to get this demo. I'll reply to this with my thoughts about it Tooomorrowwww.

To whoever was complaining about the fact you can't jump sideways when you jump standing still; you can if you use your double jump.
The demo was pretty fun, the only thing that sort of bugged me was the attacks. There's only 2 of them (Because I don't know what the spin thing does). One is a normal stab attack, which happens if you spam the button while on the ground, whereas if you press it in the air, the camera view will go 2.5D, and if you start spamming it, will do some sort of electric attack over and over going forward with each one (I think it's electric, looks it). It seems like you'd never use your normal slash attack, since using the air one makes you really less prone to getting hit. Unless there's new attacks later on, I could see this getting repetitive.
Nezrou @ Nov 7th 2008 6:40AM
You're right, it could be repetetive with only those two attacks, but games like Strider 2 show that you don't need new attacks to keep things interesting.
The spinning move makes you invulnerable while you're spinning, it's not too useful in demo and it takes some time for Prinny to start spinning, so you can't use it like a normal dodge, but I bet it will come in handy in boss fights.

More 2D (or 2.5D, or 2D-ish) platformers are always a good thing.

I would love a Fancy Pants Adventure on the psp! This looks good too... :P
