Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection announced for early 2009

While many of you will have already played these games (many times), be it on the Gamecube, PSP, PS2 or on the original consoles, the Ultimate Collection will apparently output all titles at 720p. We're not sure exactly how these old games will look in high definition, but this will be the largest collection of Sega titles ever released together. - Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle

Wow, that's an epic collection; I will definitely pick that up!
Gambit07 @ Nov 6th 2008 2:08PM
Better not be more then $30.
drdre74 @ Nov 6th 2008 2:16PM
Man they will more than likely sell each one for 10 bones a pop and ask for like 50 bucks for all of then together or something stupid.
Popfrogs @ Nov 6th 2008 7:12PM
No, this is Sega, not Capcom.
John @ Nov 6th 2008 2:38PM
As far as I'm concerned, Master System was defined by Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Wonder Boy 1, 2, and 3, Outrun, Hang-On, Shinobi (1 only, after that, junk), and Phantasy Star. A lot of junk on that list above, which is a shame, as the Master System was a good game system.
Dartmerc @ Nov 6th 2008 5:38PM
The reason there aren't any Master System games is because it's a Mega Drive collection.
I grew up with SMS, but never owned a Mega Drive, so some of these games are new to me, which is good.
and I wouldn't say Shinobi games were shit after the first, Shadow Dancer was one of my favorites, I think the series improved after the first.
Either way, this is very exciting news!
Ruiner @ Nov 6th 2008 2:19PM
Don't worry Sega.com has it listed for 29.99
Kabapu @ Nov 6th 2008 2:29PM
.... Are you serious? I thought to myself, "The games included will probably be crap." Then I looked at the list and my jaw dropped.
Sure I could get all these on an emulator ... but I'd like to reward Sega for offering such a friggin' sweet (!!!) collection.
Akio @ Nov 7th 2008 12:57AM
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! Even though I've played most of em
Mooex @ Nov 6th 2008 2:41PM

It would be nice to get these a-la-carte on the PSN store though.
Kevin PSN: Keviseg15 @ Nov 6th 2008 2:36PM

DeathroW @ Nov 6th 2008 2:49PM
Sold!
Radek @ Nov 6th 2008 2:50PM
Why does Sega never make a compilation that contains Sonic CD :(
meatee @ Nov 6th 2008 5:03PM
Plus, a few of the games on this list have Sega CD versions with CD-quality soundtracks (namely the Ecco games, and then there's also Shining Force CD). I'd also love to see Flashback make a collection, since that's my all-time favorite Genesis game (and it has a CD version as well).
Draco @ Nov 6th 2008 5:44PM
I would very much like to have the Phantasy Star CD based games. I mean the CD is like 100 megs, I'm sure they could fit it.
ModeMan101 @ Nov 6th 2008 6:23PM
Not to mention, if they were putting Mega-CD versions on this compilation (unless if it was Sega first-party titles only, I suppose) - I'd want Snatcher!!!!
b @ Nov 6th 2008 2:55PM
OMFG! ALTERED BEAST!!!!! FTW!
Ficken @ Nov 6th 2008 2:56PM
Streets of Rage 2 is on my top 5 favorite games of all time. Will be picking this up.
bassiks @ Nov 6th 2008 2:59PM
Hell yeah, I'll be getting that for sure, Notice how old old games still look awesome, I downloaded some ps1 games and was shocked at how bad the graphics were, I used to think they were awesome too.
Games are still good but the graphics are so bad it makes most of them unplayable. 8-32bit is awesome i cant stand blocky 3d graphics these days though.
ObiBen @ Nov 6th 2008 3:00PM
Never had a Sega system growing up. For $30 I would definitely pick this up.
Devin @ Nov 6th 2008 3:01PM
I can run all of these on my emulators in YellowDog 6.0 on my PS3....hellz yeah
EvoAnubis @ Nov 6th 2008 3:27PM
In 720p?
Devin @ Nov 7th 2008 12:38AM
YDL 6.0 runs at 720p natively (shows up as 720p on my projector) and I can make most games (depends on emulator) fullscreen and they look IMO phenominal due to the upscaling...and it's all free too so....
lee @ Nov 6th 2008 3:03PM
Sonic, Golden axe, Streets of Rage and Comix zone
best megadrive games ever!
probs wont buy it lol
KRIS_C_123 @ Nov 6th 2008 3:04PM
capcom should bring out a resident evil collection, i would buy it on the first day
sparced @ Nov 6th 2008 3:16PM
If they're updating it with 720p upscaling then couldn't they support the "T" word?
Completing each individual game should get you a trophy. That would be great fun, while for most of them anyway. Take a long time getting the Platinum.
How come no one is calling it the Genesis, thought thats it US name.
HUYI @ Nov 6th 2008 3:25PM
it's called the megadrive in europe and genesis in america.
sparc @ Nov 6th 2008 3:28PM
Yep, and this site is run and mostly has US visitors.
HUYI @ Nov 6th 2008 3:20PM
i have a xbox and a emulator that plays megadrive and snes games upscaled to 720p so i have no use for this, PLUS i have sonic mega collection plus on the ps2 and mega collection on the gamecube, i'm spoilt for choice, and i think this is sega's way to make more money off nogalstic old skool gamers imo, sega are always re releasing their old megadrive games on various consoles.
Blaze463 @ Nov 6th 2008 3:41PM
Is this an exclusive? I get confused when a new game is posted up on this site because they only mention that it is on PS3.
Nate @ Nov 7th 2008 8:15AM
Add Trophy support and I'm all over it!
ratphour @ Nov 7th 2008 3:16PM
The game will have PS3 Trophy support, and unlockables.

Blades144 @ Nov 6th 2008 3:55PM
With all of the space on a Blue Ray disc, why don;t they offer Sega CD collection?
jbkiller1 @ Nov 6th 2008 4:04PM
Where is Sonic CD i use to love that game but its hard to find!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
scarecrow @ Nov 6th 2008 4:14PM
kid chameleon? hell yes!!!
-Jad- @ Nov 6th 2008 4:31PM
^^ Count me in on this ^^
sracer @ Nov 6th 2008 4:37PM
No "Night Trap 32XCD" = no sale!
sak3r @ Nov 6th 2008 4:53PM
while those games rock i also wished they did this for saturn and dreamcast games, saturn had some awsome 2d games like guardian heroes and dreamcast had some awsome shmups.
they weren't made by sega but so weren't most of that list, at the very least they should give us stuff from mega cd and 32x sonic cd was awsome like some mentioned and very few people played it, it's considered by fans the best sonic game released,
katz @ Nov 6th 2008 5:06PM
Where's mah UMK3 ?
llinxx @ Nov 6th 2008 5:54PM
No Gunstar-Heroes!?
Guttad :(
Word Up, North Korea! @ Nov 6th 2008 5:56PM
Man, I wish they had Shadowrun!
linebeginstoblur @ Nov 6th 2008 6:28PM
Am I missing something? I have Sega Genesis Collection for the PSP, which already has most of those games. Maybe not all of them, but still.. Why would I want to buy this when there's already a Genesis Collection for PSP and PS2? Does Sega really think that we all love the Genesis that much?
spikemad2005 @ Nov 6th 2008 6:53PM
They should also release Flashback as i remember that's the game i always played on the Sega Mega Drive but still a lot of games in one package
dangle_himself @ Nov 6th 2008 6:56PM
Great set and will be picking it up, just wish they had the earthworm jims and radical rex in there
Amos @ Nov 6th 2008 7:53PM
Kind of underwhelming for me. I don't understand why Sega is hung up on the Genesis. You would think with the extra space on a blu-ray disc, Sega could put some good Sega CD games on there ( Ex: Eternal Champions CD, Sonic CD, Shining Force CD, etc.) For that matter, I would kill for a Saturn collection. Imagine all three parts of Shining Force III finally released in the U.S. plus Shinobi Legions and many others.
Daryl @ Nov 6th 2008 9:30PM
I would hope they had sonic cd and knuckles chaotix
Nakagawa @ Nov 6th 2008 10:25PM
Whaaaa? No Revenge of Shinobi, but Shinobi III ?!
