Hovering car coming to Burnout Paradise as DLC

What will those guys at Criterion Games bring us next? Jeremy Chubb, a producer for Burnout Paradise, has just announced that a hovering version of the popular Jansen P12, renamed the Jansen 88 Special, will be headed for the game in the form of paid DLC. Besides the Lamborghini Countach-lookalike, the Cavalry Bootlegger, Manhattan Spirit and the GT Nighthawk will also be made available as DLC -- no price point has been decided, but you can purchase them individually or cheaper if you buy them as a set.

how did you not mention the obvious 'Back to the Future' homage?!
mercurywa @ Nov 7th 2008 2:38PM
"Roads? Where we're going we don't need roads...."
heypaul @ Nov 7th 2008 4:04PM
Great Scott!
mcx @ Nov 7th 2008 4:24PM
Last night, Darth Vader came down from planet Vulcan and told me that if I didn't take DeLorean out that he'd melt my brain.
Reevr @ Nov 7th 2008 5:33PM
Take "delorean" out? That's the car dummy. It's LORAINE that he needs to ask out.
macserv @ Nov 8th 2008 8:08PM
When this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious shit.
mercurywa @ Nov 7th 2008 2:37PM
Curious about the handling.... is it going to move like a hovering car or like a car with "invisible wheels"?
nakedgremlin @ Nov 7th 2008 2:43PM
I think it'll be the later -- like having invisible wheels.
... just like how the current bikes perform like really skinny cars.
Jerses @ Nov 7th 2008 2:44PM
Also if you jump off a ramp...will it flote? or what happen if you crash and then like...the hover thing invert and keep crashing you downward...man the future is dangerous.
Tez @ Nov 7th 2008 2:59PM
Regular Burnout is already pretty dangerous :P
iamkid @ Nov 7th 2008 3:19PM
it would be really cool if it had the physics of a hovering car, but then again it woudnt be very good for racing, it would be horrible at turning at speed...its probably going to be just like the other cars, but just graphical changes, like if you go off a ramp and land, the frame will hit the ground some and go back to the hovering. i really doubt they would dish out all new physics for one car though
Jerses @ Nov 7th 2008 2:42PM
Arrrg!!! i just exchanged burnout >___
Tez @ Nov 7th 2008 2:57PM
"Just?" As in, right after they announced they have four more updates in the pipeline?
Jerses @ Nov 7th 2008 2:42PM
Arrrg!!! i just exchanged burnout!!! oh well... i dont even have time for this...get it? time? lol
How do you refill youre boost? this car doesnt run with gasoline it runs with garbage...maybe you have to buy alone in the dark too full this car. nice!
Kevin PSN: Keviseg15 @ Nov 7th 2008 3:06PM
wow just wow.
SalMoriarty @ Nov 7th 2008 2:45PM
Will it be powered by Mr. Fusion?
John S @ Nov 7th 2008 2:46PM
Man, I've been lagging on getting this game. The DeLorean is that final push that will bring me over.
drdre74 @ Nov 7th 2008 2:46PM
Ok this is cool. Now all i want to see is a Knight Rider K.I.T car from the 80's show to go with it.
John S @ Nov 7th 2008 2:48PM
The GT Nighthawk has to be KITT
LordAbsu @ Nov 7th 2008 2:50PM
LMAO@ mercurywa's comment, it's exactly what I thought when I saw the pic.
Nick @ Nov 7th 2008 2:59PM
No thanks.
CJLopez @ Nov 7th 2008 3:01PM
This would have been pretty awesome if the car that hovers was a DeLorean.
Even more if it was the Back to the future DeLorean!!!!
Still amazed there's no mention of any kind to the movie
Marky264 @ Nov 7th 2008 3:08PM
Um stupid Hovering Car Title? PS3 Fanboy Bloggers ever heard of the obvious Back To The Future Film?! It's the DeLorean.
Cant wait for February! Man it's going to be awesome when we'll see a vid of the car in action love the P12!
John S @ Nov 7th 2008 3:20PM
Seriously. People look at the first picture, it's totaly the DeLorean. I heard that when you use the turbo, it'll leave a trail of fire on the ground. siiick
mercurywa @ Nov 7th 2008 3:23PM
and then what? It disappears into a flash when it hits 88 mph?
John S @ Nov 7th 2008 3:32PM
One can only hope haha. Nah, I really don't know if it'll do anything. Maybe it'll take you back 30 seconds lol.
It's not about how the car handles. It's pure nostalgia. As long as the pricing isn't crazy, it'll be totally worth it.
The other cars are guessed to be K.I.T.T, General Lee, and Ecto-1.
Sancho @ Nov 7th 2008 3:43PM
its not a delorean... can't you read? besides the basic shape most of the details are clearly not the delorean.. the front and rear ends are way different
Brosive @ Nov 7th 2008 3:14PM
Great Scott!!!
OddyOh @ Nov 7th 2008 3:32PM
"There are now TWO of YOU here...and there are, TWO of ME here!" :)
Marky264 @ Nov 7th 2008 3:35PM
I can hear the theme tune now! De De de De De! lol
Rocks @ Nov 7th 2008 3:31PM
NICE one! I probably won't buy it, just because I'm not that kind of person, but that's a pretty sweet update!
Gambit07 @ Nov 7th 2008 3:43PM
Does a floating car need tires, just wondering...
mcx @ Nov 7th 2008 4:18PM
does a plane need tires?
Gambit07 @ Nov 7th 2008 8:22PM
Umm, a plane doesn't float or hover...
mercurywa @ Nov 7th 2008 3:46PM
"Fill the gauge and hit boost to trigger burning flame trails from your back wheels. The 88 Special’s fast, manoeuvrable and great in the air.
In fact, if you want to take off, this is just the car for you. Hit L3 to switch to hover mode – the wheels retract and the car takes off and hovers through Paradise City at head height.
Seriously. It hovers. "
Ok, then I'm going with "really hovers, and does not drive on invisible tires"

johnnybutt35 @ Nov 7th 2008 4:12PM
clearly they cant call it the delorean because of copyrights so they go with a name that is recognizable and everyone will understand it and go for the likeness. regardless the car is awesome and i cant wait to see what the others are. plus to see it damaged it should look like the last scene with the delorean before it gets hit by the train. either way this is definantly awesome.
James @ Nov 7th 2008 4:33PM
I wonder if the online version will include all the DLC including the paid.. that would actually sway me to buy it.
Reevr @ Nov 7th 2008 5:28PM
Looks cool! It's obviously based off the delorean form Back to the Future though.
anda @ Nov 7th 2008 7:51PM
In the future.. We dont need roads..
mcx @ Nov 8th 2008 7:17AM
Yep.. and in Burnout you don't need drivers in the cars.
mcx @ Nov 8th 2008 7:13AM
Reevr ... it was a play on words.. Duh!!
burnoutfan141 @ Nov 9th 2008 9:36PM
will this be free please answer
