Resistance 2 Easter Egg gives props to MGS4

To see the EE for yourself, just check out the Spec Op's ammo crate after "prototype ammo berserk" has been activated. We haven't tried this ourselves yet this weekend, but we're sure we'll run into it sometime. So how about you? Have you found anything interesting in your gaming sessions this weekend?
[Thanks Jay!]

Cool...
It's nice to developers show their appreciation for great games
Roto13 @ Nov 9th 2008 11:15AM
Hah, neat. :P
Darkdrium777 @ Nov 9th 2008 11:16AM
I found out that R2 wasn't a game I liked. :( Too bad, I really liked the first one, but IMHO the story of the sequel isn't as well written and original. I'd elaborate but this is a blog, not a newspaper, so I won't take much more space. Shame really, I was looking forward to it, but after renting it, not so much... :/
Itchy @ Nov 9th 2008 11:37AM
I agree with you. I'm still playing it but have not become completely entranced like I did when I first played Fall of Man. I mean, I got shivers sometimes when I was playing that game. Now I'll get the odd rush of adrenaline when the shit goes down, but then that's it. Looks pretty, though.
Still waiting for a PS3 fanboy review. Curious to hear what others think.

R2 is a game that just loves to piss me off, mainly because of the hordes of enemies you encounter and the huge ass brutes they expect you to kill off even if there's no grenade launcher type of weapons and you only have your Bullseye, especially at your first encounter with not one, but two of them!
By the way, who here loves listening to the radio DJ, Henry Stillman? His contribution to the game is so profound that it actually makes you feel that mankind is fucked, especially his story about the boy. It's very tenseful just listening to him, especially when the radio is in a very dark place and you don't know if a spinner will run at you (which happened to me)
RasenganFury @ Nov 9th 2008 11:26AM
Nice move Insomniac. Maybe the next Metal Gear game will say something like Ratchet and Clank owns lol.
frankym @ Nov 9th 2008 11:32AM
Wow, you mean the editors on this website are actually going to play R2? Thought they were to busy playing Gears 2.
JerJerBinks @ Nov 9th 2008 11:45AM
I don't blame them, I have been doing the same thing.
Haohmaru @ Nov 9th 2008 11:54AM
The editors clearly have a more open mind than you do.
MakaiOokami @ Nov 9th 2008 12:41PM
I hated the first Gears. Thought it was trash. I'm not alone. So there's no need to bring up that series here. It's stupid to say "Why would someone play this game, shouldn't they be playing Gears 2?" that's just a bad assumption.
j.howlett @ Nov 9th 2008 1:29PM
i think he was joking about the WRUP. nothing wrong with appreciating other games but the other side hasn't been so gracious. what was there attitude when mgs4 came out?
ryan @ Nov 9th 2008 3:15PM
To be fair, Xav from "the other side" is a bigtime Killzone fan. Not everyone enjoys Metal Gear and not everyone plays games for only one system.
JerJerBinks @ Nov 14th 2008 5:26PM
I cant believe that I got voted down because I was playing Gears 2. Fanboyism is ugly, get over the fact that there are decent games on the other console.
frankym @ Nov 9th 2008 11:51AM
Yeah...I must admit that Gears 2 looks wayyyyyy better than R2.
I have finished the SP in R2 and am well into Co-op and I must say the game is a complete let down from graphics to gameplay
Game_playa @ Nov 9th 2008 12:15PM
WTF?
The graphics and gameplay are much much better, it's just the damn story
Ranben @ Nov 9th 2008 12:12PM
I wish Insomniac would go back to making Ratchet and Clanks. :/
iamkid @ Nov 9th 2008 12:24PM
they still do, theyre working on the next big one as we speak. did you forget already about ratchet and clank: quest for booty? it only came out in october or september, cant remember. never got a chance to get it though. it was mainly a hold over, but more is coming, so its ok :D
Ranben @ Nov 9th 2008 1:51PM
Oh yeah I know, it's just that the new R&C's for the PS3 have been a bit of a letdown, I have all of the console Ratchet and Clanks. All I want is multiplayer, since this is the PS3 so people will actually play them online.
Devin @ Nov 9th 2008 2:51PM
they made Quest For Booty not too long ago...
Game_playa @ Nov 9th 2008 12:14PM
Right on!
James @ Nov 9th 2008 12:21PM
I don't know what makes Gears seem like I want it. I hated the first ones controls and graphics. The gameplay was good but only as good as really tank like controls could be. Did they update them to be a lot more loose in the second one (like say Uncharted?)
Gears really advertises well, anytime I see their ads I think I need to buy it but I still think the same after seeing the first Mad World ones.. even though I disliked the game.
leatherface @ Nov 9th 2008 12:22PM
Yes! more hardcore fans. R2 is truly a sequel.
to those that don't like it, finish the game please b4 commenting on it.
bAssackwards @ Nov 9th 2008 12:54PM
Cheers, Insomniac! MGS4 definitely PWNS!
gillyy0 @ Nov 9th 2008 7:37PM
Word brotha.
nakedatthecomp @ Nov 9th 2008 1:26PM
hahaha that's nothing short of awesome. good on you, insomniac
Jay. @ Nov 9th 2008 1:38PM
Awesome, they posted something that I sent in lol =]
Batzi @ Nov 9th 2008 3:02PM
MGS4 FTW! Hell it pawns! Resistance 2 owns!
ryan @ Nov 9th 2008 3:14PM
From reading Resistance 2 forums it seems the developers are pretty big fans of Gears 2 as well. It's good to see them enjoying other great games and drawing inspirations from them. It only makes their own games and talent improve. :D
leatherface @ Nov 9th 2008 4:16PM
your "right" 5vs5 is cool, but 30vs30 team death matches is insane. I'm glad Insomniac got inspired to do better things. Thanks for a great game (Insomniac) guys, can't wait for R3.
ryan @ Nov 9th 2008 6:44PM
I can't really see a Gears of War type game that supports 30 on 30. Not that it would be impossible, it would be impractical.
leatherface @ Nov 9th 2008 7:45PM
impractical!? please, now your just making excuses. so it's cool to see 100's of (ai) locust's on screen but not cool to have 60 ( real people) players online battling it out.
ryan @ Nov 10th 2008 1:41AM
For the type of game that Gears 2 is yes.
There are moments when the campaign calls for 100 Ai on screen, but these Ai are built for background, eyecandy. Not the close quarters fighting the actual gameplay calls for. Please, do not confuse the two.
5 on 5 is fine for the type of game Gears multiplayer is for. There are reasons why 30 on 30 would not work for a game like Gears. It would be too imbalanced, work against the 'intimate' shootout experience it strives for and, to be honest, not look as good as it does.
ryan @ Nov 10th 2008 2:05AM
Also here's an interesting read for any shooter fan:
http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/industry/4290600.html
They do mention that Gears 2 is small unit tactics, which would indeed, make 30 on 30 impractical for what it is going for. They also mention their crowd Ai you spoke of. So, no excuses. Just stating what they were striving for in terms of gameplay. :D
seansloan @ Nov 9th 2008 3:55PM
Nice find Jay!Im not sure if i agree, but a cool touch
PSN: Erdie @ Nov 9th 2008 5:08PM
When you're right, you're right.
Hotrod @ Nov 9th 2008 5:49PM
Just finished the game on hard, one of the best FPS I have ever played.
IMO, I think R2 is A LOT better than R1 in every single way. The Henry Stillman show really made it seem like the apocalypse, and some of the battles with the Chimera were insane, challenging and fun.
Riseer @ Nov 9th 2008 6:15PM
Oh Wow what's up with thr R2 hate?First off it is 150% better then the first. The story did fall a lil short beyond that it is nothing short then great.Gears 2 isn't shit so don't spam ps3fanboy with homo gears owns bs. BEYOND!!
tuna sandwhich @ Nov 9th 2008 7:30PM
lol look personally i aint played R2 yet bit reviews did say they lowered graphics for better game and story line, so not exactly gonna complain if i know what im expecting, so like myself complete before moaning like someone posted
Paulmichael @ Nov 9th 2008 11:53PM
Have you heard the audio though? My god, what a cinematic feel to it all.
ryan @ Nov 10th 2008 1:47AM
Games always have to sacrifice either the scope or the graphics when they want to expand on either category.
If you want bigger levels, bosses and a bigger multiplayer it's obvious you are going to be sacrificing certain graphical features like textures etc.
Tyler @ Nov 10th 2008 2:09AM
To copy what game_playa said, but with more !! =D
Right on!!!!
I already beat the game twice, on Difficult and Superhuman!
