inFamous not about length, but quality and fun

In Eurogamer's chat room style interview with inFamous game director Nate Fox, he states his belief that Sucker Punch will win audiences over with their "commitment - stupid, unfailing commitment -- to iterating on the gameplay until it is wicked fun." Furthermore, Fox tells us the team is striving for not just length in the upcoming superhero sandbox title, "but instead opt for the most fun they can pack onto the disc."
Fox goes on to talk about various mechanics in the game; game decisions related to morality, the way the protagonist Cole gained his powers in a tragic accident, his "hot" girlfriend and more. None of the information will be truly new if you've been following our coverage of the game, but he does promise Trophy support ("We'd be complete and total jackasses not to support Trophies") and hints at a demo ("You can expect to see some downloads from PSN closer to our release date"). Head over to Eurogamer for the entire interview.

6 hour game, confirmed.
Lars @ Nov 13th 2008 12:58PM
I could do without the fluff most games throw in to extend the length. But wasn't this supposed to be an open-world game? In that case the length would be infinite, like GTA4.
Either way, I can't wait for this game.
Kspraydad @ Nov 12th 2008 6:20PM
I've been telling the fairer sex this for 25 years.
Gambit07 @ Nov 12th 2008 6:24PM
I got all the bases covered.
playcrackthesky @ Nov 12th 2008 8:04PM
That's what he said.
Jake @ Nov 12th 2008 6:55PM
6hrs? :(
still want it tho
Kodros @ Nov 12th 2008 7:48PM
There was no mention of how long the game is. He only said that developers should not throw a bunch of garbage into a game just to make it long.
MBO @ Nov 12th 2008 6:55PM

That's what she said! no wait.....
j.howlett @ Nov 12th 2008 7:58PM
i got that they're packing alot into the game but focusing on fun rather than artificially lengthening the game. that sounds fun to me
Rodz @ Nov 12th 2008 8:52PM
I don't know.... First Mirror's Edge (about 5 to 6 hours) and now InFamous? Come on!!! I'm tired to pay full price for 6 hours of fun.
Keep the focus on the fun, but make it at least 15 to 16 Hours and we have a deal.
Packfan @ Nov 12th 2008 9:37PM
See GTA. Open world, 30 hours, repetitive missions, too much driving, not enough guns. No fun.
Nay @ Nov 12th 2008 9:56PM
Gta was 30hours of too much driving, i agree Packfan. And i also agree with you Rodz, Uncharted was about 8hours and Ratchet and Clank was about 10, we PAY 60bucks for 5hours of games? Wow, we're paying for quality but i don't even OWN an hdtv to SEE all of the sopposed 'quality'
rohan @ Nov 12th 2008 10:04PM
As long as there is at least 10 hrs of gameplay including different stroylines ( as to the choices made in game) and different ending i will be happy. But please for the love of god no online mulitplayer , co-op maybe.
massive_98 @ Nov 12th 2008 10:23PM
Considering this game is a sandbox game, you can stretch the gameplay a lot farther.
Besides game reviewers, who actually played all the GTA:IV missions one after another without joyriding, running over asians and wasting time.
I bet between missions in Infamous I'll find time to throw cars at asians.
lakaihigh @ Nov 12th 2008 10:29PM
ouch! what's with the asain hate mate? j/k i've been there and done that FOR hours. yeah GTA4 was good but you guys have it nailed down that it was a lil repetitive after a few hours of what felt like i was doing the same thing. i hope Infamous learns from their mistakes and can supply us with an awesome PS3 exclusive title. I'm really looking forward to this one next year but Imma keep my fingers crossed that its more than 10 hours of sheer gameplay. The comic style cutscenes are the bomb by the way.
peace,
Lh
jahd5000 @ Nov 12th 2008 11:24PM
so sad, but i just hace a feeling that this game is gonna suck ala Haze. Well not tyhat much, but i see it getting a 6.5...
dont ask me why, i just know. almost sure.
lol hope im wrong, u have no idea how mcuh i hope
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 12th 2008 11:29PM
Haze was third Party.......
havent seen any first party titles that werent that good this generation........
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 12th 2008 11:28PM
of course it gonna have trophies.......why wont Sony just come out and say, "ALL games after xx-xx-2009 MUST have trophy support"
cant wait for a demo tho.....
Robobagins @ Nov 13th 2008 1:16AM
Online and offline Co-op are a must these days. I wanna play with my friends! Multiplayer would be cool if there was more then just electric powers and you were limited to a single type(No Superman or Martian Manhunter types) like fire, water, air, earth, electric, fast, strong.
tyki @ Nov 13th 2008 4:52AM
I hope it's 8-12 hours, casue if it's longer it means that it'll be repetitive like DMC 4. if sucker-punck will give me 8 hours of continuous fun and non-repetitive levels then i'm absolutely fine with it.
quality >>>>>>>quantity
sucker-punck FTW ;)
Natan82 @ Nov 13th 2008 4:58AM
This site is full of xbot trolls.
Gears of War 1 and 1.1 (called 2) are approximately 5-6 hours long and nobody complains.
A PS3 game is 10-12 hours long and all complain.
Pathetic.
Seba501 @ Nov 13th 2008 9:17AM
No u are wrong, Gear of war 2 is at least 9-10 hours of single-player campain, i havent finish it yet.
Short game = lazy developers
C´mon guyz, whe have a blu-ray player, whe need exclusive games whit 15 hours of gameplay at least
Thomas @ Nov 13th 2008 7:44AM
I'm to the point, where I don't even want to pay full price for single player games anymore. This game has single player campaign and no online modes what so ever. So once the 5 to 6 hours is done, that's it... there's nothing else to do. You take a game like resistance 2, once you finish with the campaign (which was pretty long) then you go on to the online co-op, finish that, and you still have the online competitive matches to compete in. That's a 60 dollar game. A 5 - to 6 hour game - single player.. that's worth nothing, but a rental. These devs, should NOT be coming out talking about the game is not about LENGTH that's a big mistake and its going to cost them game sales in the end. Ask Nintendo about that "quality vs quantity" theory and how well it worked for them in the 64 era.
Evan @ Nov 13th 2008 7:52AM
I thought inFamous was about screwing over those of us waiting for SuckerPunch to make another Sly game.
Gonzo @ Nov 13th 2008 10:00AM
It's not about me buying it, but about me renting it.
wingshot @ Nov 13th 2008 7:27PM
"striving for not just length in the upcoming superhero sandbox title"
Ladies and gents, I would like you to draw your attention to this statement's key words. Those key words are NOT JUST. That means they are going for multiple goals, and length is one of them, but not the only one of them.
Misleading headlines are misleading, eh?
griffin @ Dec 21st 2008 12:57PM
If a game is single player only, I'd like it to be be at least 10-20 hours. Anything less then that is too short for $60.
I would much rather a game like this be 10 hours and not repetitive then a game like GTA4 that had very similar missions, over and over again.
People complain about games taking forever to come out... look how long it's taking developers to make games that are 8 hours or 10 hours... if they made a game that was 20 hours single player campaign and then multiplayer modes, it would take them twice as long.
R2 was great, the single player was about 10 hours, I just started playing the coop and multi which are a lot of fun.
