Dissidia TGS08 trailer and LE packaging revealed
Dissidia is literally only a month away from release in Japan and Square Enix isn't skimping on the information. The trailer we saw in Square Enix's Closed Theater is now available for public viewing pleasure (we really wished SE would do this with the rest of their Closed Theater trailers), as we've posted it right after the break. It's probably going to be the last trailer we see as it really hits the climax. Cloud and Terra were revealed in this trailer and you can finally see in-game footage of their fights.
In related news, Square Enix also released images of the Limited Edition game and PSP packaging. As seen above, the game packaging features some very detailed work from famed artist Yoshitaka Amano. It shows all ten heroes together with Cosmos. The Limited Edition PSP box is all white with a solid logo and some subtle designs. Check out an image of the PSP box and the TGS 08 trailer after the break.

nice. old style art just like the old games.
Bodachi @ Nov 13th 2008 11:31AM
I always thought this style looked ugly, and this just proves it.
sicsided @ Nov 13th 2008 11:40AM
I don't mind the style, but the way it is executed here is horrible. Too much going out without any focus, and the color choices? Blah, who the hell urinated on those clouds back there? Bad bad artist right there, although his drawing skill isn't bad, he should work on his filling in.
Daniel @ Nov 13th 2008 12:02PM
I've always though Amano was seriously overrated. This confirms it. Terrible box art.
TM @ Nov 13th 2008 12:48PM
If they release it in NA or EU it will most likely have different box art
CJLopez @ Nov 13th 2008 1:13PM
Yes please!!!
Dam, Cloud and Leon with Amano style are rather ugly!!!
Yan @ Nov 13th 2008 6:55PM
to CJLopez;
Leon? who the f is leon? now if you were talking about squall i would understand. =p
snake79 @ Nov 13th 2008 1:36PM
obviously you guys are not artist nor do you all have any sense of art.
sicsided @ Nov 13th 2008 7:50PM
If you were replying to me and the others above, then yes, I am an artist. I am a 3d artist, and 2d conceptual artist in the game industry, and that looks like utter crap.
aj @ Nov 13th 2008 8:55PM
Why do people keep insisting that the only way to really be able to criticize an art is to practise that art? You don't have to be an artist to know what is good or bad, a musician to know what sounds like crap, or a writer to know that a book is boring and pretentious.
Bryan @ Nov 13th 2008 2:05PM
i thought i was the only one who thought it was ugly. no im not an artist but i do enjoy art. this is art to the max i just dont dig it....at all.
mindshed @ Nov 13th 2008 2:23PM
The box art looks like one of those fan art envelops kids (used to?) send to gamepro magazine.

EFF YES!
Oh, jeebus, that trailer pumped me up inside! I think it's mostly the music at the end. THIS is a definition of epic, bordering on legend. What's more, all the voices are nice to listen to (this coming from an English junkie); only exception may be Jecht (after hearing him in English, it's weird to not hear a gruff voice) and Kefka/Cefca (if only because it IS the voice of a derranged, mad clown). Oh, cannot WAIT for an English trailer!
As for the boxart: I agree with the "who pissed on the clouds?" sentiment, as well as how subdued the game's logo is. If it reflected a more pure, white/blue light instead of a yellow one, I think it would've come off better (as well as match the standard logo-on-white-background presentation of the individual titles). Wonder what the retail box will look like, as well as if this limited edition cover is reversible (Danbooru has a compilation pic of the heroes' and villains' profile arts as well as the Cosmos/Chaos groups in Amano style; search for "dissidia_final_fantasy").
Shoyz @ Nov 13th 2008 2:43PM
I think the art is decent if they're going for a 'vintage' look.
If this was meant to look good, however.. no.
Saigon @ Nov 13th 2008 7:50PM
Awesome trailer. Didn't expect Dark Knight Cecil to look so badass on psp. Oh, and Jeckt's uppercut was win. :)
I love Amano's work, but why is sky on the boxart almost the color of urine?
cross over @ Nov 13th 2008 4:46PM
Why won't they use the epic art with the hearoes lined on 1 side and villians on the other
Glaxor @ Nov 13th 2008 5:59PM
Oh how I wish I wasn't on a savings kick. I'm also loving the old art style. Brill.
Zeph @ Nov 13th 2008 6:04PM
yeah... i see most people here just prefer the girly touch that Tetsuya Nomura gives to his heroes... too bad, this boxart is literaly that, ART, and i hope we get this one here in America
And is Squall, not Leon... damn those new FF fans...
cafecito @ Nov 13th 2008 6:55PM
What? Please no, not this art on the US box.
Daniel @ Nov 14th 2008 9:58AM
Wow, you've really opened my eyes. Cause the characters in the Amano art look soooooo manly. At least Nomura doesn't draw Cloud with a perm.
rikki @ Nov 13th 2008 7:38PM
Amano and Nomura are BOTH severely overrated. Don't kid yourselves.
Dude used to be better at composition than this, though. Shame. I wonder if this was a rush job?

Peep THIS ****: http://www.watch.impress.co.jp/game/docs/20081113/dff06.htm
Someone more familiar with FFV care to tell me just what Exdeath is doing? It's otherwise making me think of FFIX's Ozma and Luigi's Final Smash.
Laronmi @ Nov 14th 2008 12:30AM
I love Amano's art. Dude did some amazing work on Vampire Hunter D and Sandman. But a lot of his Final Fantasy art is kind of terrible (Especially with the newer ones). Except with VI. But I think that's just him and his Terra fanboying.
Mattwo @ Nov 14th 2008 4:26AM
good thing MK vs DC universe comes out 1st or I'd have trouble deciding...
Kurizu204 @ Nov 14th 2008 3:08PM
Amazing trailer.
About the box art the art style is fine for i just hate the poses.
redmotman @ Nov 14th 2008 3:31PM
have to gat this game BIG FINAL FANTAST FAN
JunDageki @ Nov 14th 2008 5:18PM
Guys we may not like this kind of art but its a Final Fantasy tradition that is always seen on every FF since I to FFXIII they just dont wanna break it maybe. oh and Warrior of light looks a lot like Ike from Fire Emblem and Onion Knight looks like a baby...
cafecito @ Nov 15th 2008 1:04PM
I know Amano is a FF tradition from the early days, but let's face it... the guy sucks at drawing. I've NEVER liked his art style, and I didn't get FF2 for the PSP just because the game had his portraits. I just hope Amano's influence ends there and we get Amano's or CG art for the regular cover.
Saigon @ Nov 15th 2008 11:46PM
"but let's face it... the guy sucks at drawing"
That's your opinion, not fact. I personally like Nomura's art more, but I'm still a fan of Amano. I hope he keeps on creating art for FF games, because I still like it, and because it is a tradition.
mike @ Nov 15th 2008 11:40PM
i wonder if there will be secret characters. if so Locke and like tifa and zack need to be in it
Darlaten @ Nov 16th 2008 10:10PM
Until I see a release date for North America, there is nothing to get excited about for me. Yup, the box art looks neat, trailer looks amazing, but that's about it.
I want my North American release date!
