Resident Evil 5 demo coming soon, may not have mandatory install
Speaking to Eurogamer, producer Jun Takeuchi hinted that a playable demo of Resident Evil 5 will be announced soon. Hopefully, that demo will include co-op play when it finally comes our way. Takeuchi had also said that DLC for RE5 is also "possible," but did not disclose whether Capcom is actually working on it.
One thing in particular for PS3 owners, Takeuchi suggests that Capcom has opted not to include a mandatory install for Resident Evil 5. The company has noted that consumer's Majini-like reaction to Devil May Cry 4's space-eating install and are changing their ways. "We're still working on those technical elements in the last couple of months, but we can tell you that if users are dissatisfied with that kind of thing, then it's certainly something we keep in mind when we develop," said Takeuchi. Resident Evil 5 is four months away and will release on March 13, 2009.

I read the title and was extremely confused. I mean, you DO have do install the demo, don't you? And aren't demo discs expensive, now that they are on BluRay?
That aside, the downloaded parts of games didn't bug me at first, but now I have 20GB of mandatory installs sucking up my space. I can't hardly download demos anymore without getting the "delete some stuff, or you can't play this" message. It's a real pity.

Resident Evil 5, the game not its demo, will not have a mandatory install.
Evi1d33d @ Nov 13th 2008 2:49PM
I only have a 40GB HDD and I never run into space problem. And I have 8 games installed.
Just delete the demos after you finish playing it and you won't run into space issues. Unless you download a lot of movies, then you should get a bigger HDD regardless.
I hope they at least offer optional install, I would prefer to wait 5 mins for an install to shave 5 seconds per loading screen.
Korwyn @ Nov 13th 2008 2:58PM
I agree. if it helps reducing at least 5 sec on every loading screen it's worth it.
plus I have 500 GB HDD replaced in my PS3 so HDD space isn't quite as big of an issue. :o)

This whole, "i hate mandatory installs. i'm running out of space on my 40/60/80 gb hard drive" bit is really getting lame. go buy 250GB hardrive and quit whining.
kentuckyfried @ Nov 13th 2008 4:50PM
Exactly; throw that ps3 drive into a SATA case and now you're good to go with portable storage as well.
Popfrogs @ Nov 13th 2008 5:47PM
Yup, take advantage of an open platform instead of the other one where it's rapeage to buy their branded, low capacity hard drives!
deaftly @ Nov 13th 2008 5:58PM
You shouldn't HAVE to buy a HDD and you shouldn't HAVE to install games for a video game console, that's what a PC is for. Whatever floats your boat though.
Nick @ Nov 13th 2008 3:02PM
I'm looking into buying a new HDD. Three of my games take up almost 15 GB alone. Then you add up other game installs and PSN titles and I have less than 10 GB left on my harddrive.
Plus, when in-game music becomes mandatory, I'll be able to put my entire music library on my harddrive.
Taylor Johnson @ Nov 13th 2008 4:29PM
What games have 15 Gig installs? The biggest I've seen is MGS and DMC4. Neither of those were bigger than 10.
Nick @ Nov 13th 2008 4:38PM
The three games total take up 15 GB, sorry. MGS 4, GTA IV, and Oblivion.
Gambit07 @ Nov 13th 2008 3:10PM
Any game install less then a gig is fine with me. But, I'm guessing what he means is that they'll just give us the option...
iamkid @ Nov 13th 2008 3:43PM
so i guess that means your not that happy about gran turismo 5 prologue's 5 gig install file? that thing is such a beast.
iamkid @ Nov 13th 2008 3:42PM
thats cool, as long as it doesnt come attached with really bad loading times, itll be fine. ive still got tons of space left any way, and even when i run out, i can just buy a bigger one.
Will @ Nov 13th 2008 3:47PM
All I have to say is, if Uncharted can pull off those graphics and textures, Resident Evil 5 can do it. And if not, if it cuts too much into their development time/resources, then an install is fine for me (got a nice 320 gb for $50 recently).
At the very least if there's a mandatory install, it should cut down on loading times and not be as useless as for a game like Naruto UNS.
Brutal1ty @ Nov 14th 2008 4:57PM
There deffo will be DLC.
Speah for us sony boyos.
The capcom store bit?
gillyy0 @ Nov 13th 2008 5:02PM
Demo will determine whether or not I'll buy the game because right now, I'm a little iffy.
LatinoLA1 @ Nov 13th 2008 8:27PM
cant wait for this game! , but on the other note could u just use an external harddrive to store things for the ps3? or is it mandatory to install it into the ps3?
The_Icon @ Nov 14th 2008 1:00AM
Dead Space showed Survival horror games dont need mandatory installs. I think mostly because of the slower pace... the textures dont need to be loaded quickly.
meatee @ Nov 14th 2008 6:17AM
Even if they don't make the install mandatory, I hope they include an optional one if it'll help on load times. I put a 320GB drive in my PS3, so installs don't bother me at all, but for those that don't have the space it should be optional.
