Insomniac outlines R2's 'issues and misconceptions'
People who are currently playing Resistance 2 may have noticed some odd ends with the game here and there. There are some issues with online stats, with the split-screen's 4:3 ratio, and there are even some people complaining about player 2's stats in split-screen not saving. Insomniac knows of these concerns and has addressed these problems and more via the official MyResistance forums.
They've compiled a list of known issues and misconceptions pertaining to R2 to clarify on what's being fixed and what's intentionally in there. We've posted the list after the break for your convenience, and even re-organized the list for clearer understanding.

They've compiled a list of known issues and misconceptions pertaining to R2 to clarify on what's being fixed and what's intentionally in there. We've posted the list after the break for your convenience, and even re-organized the list for clearer understanding.
Misprints:
- The text describing the "Snake Eyes" berserk for the Spec Ops class in cooperative mode incorrectly states that you will receive two shots; it is intentional that you only get one shot. In Competitive mode, however, you will receive two shots when using the "Snake Eyes" berserk.
- The game manual says that there is a one-hit kill game mode, but there is not an option for this in the game. There is intentionally no one-hit kill option, the manual is a misprint.
- There are some instances where the rumble feature cuts out. We're looking into this issue.
- There have been several reports of users not receiving sound while using an optical output cable; we're not sure why this is happening. If this is happening to you, please double check your settings. Some people have reported that simply switching the in-game sound options to stereo and then switching it back to surround will fix the issue.
- Selecting a player's name from the Leaderboards will result in a pop up that says "Account does not exist". We're working on this issue currently.
- There are some issues with stats "disappearing" and "reappearing". There is an issue with offline and online stats syncing and merging.
- Split-screen players have a lot of difficulty joining games successfully and staying in games. We're working on this issue currently.
Misconception:
- Some people are reporting connection problems. The game is working; we would post an update otherwise. This seems be a client side connection issue, so please try running through some of the connection guides around here to try and solve the problem.
- There have been reports of corrupted save data files. If you see the SRPA star logo blinking/flashing/lighting up anywhere on your screen, please try to wait for it to completely go away.
- Occasionally if you enter the XMB it will lock up and you will have to reset the PS3 manually. Be sure to use the in-game options to accept party invites, accept clan invites, and to send friend invites. This should minimize time needed on the XMB to messaging and accepting friend invites.
Intentional and will not be altered:
- In split-screen mode there are "black bars" on the side of the screen and the game appears in a 4:3 aspect ratio. This is not a bug, this is intentional and was done for various reasons. Be sure to be mindful of burn-in possibilities.
- In campaign mode, the screen tint option gets stuck on your choice and you can't switch it back to normal mode. If you select normal and then die, the tinting will be reset.
- Currently the only way to join private games is to be a part of the host's party.
- Player 2 stats in split-screen mode are not saved.
- There is no round balancing between rounds.
- There is no in-game reporting for abuse. Please report offending players using the following link: http://np.us.playstation.com/complaint/pc/ComplaintForm.aspx
- User's can't use another person's save game file. This is not a bug, this is intentional.
- Campaign mode does not have a split-screen mode. This is intentional, the campaign was designed around single player experience. It simply would not work with two players, and there are no plans to add this in the future.

I am really, really, REALLY 50-50 on to get this or COD:WOW. (Any suggestions from people who already own/played both copies?)
I really don't like the "Player 2 stats in split-screen mode are not saved." That would suck as my mates would always be behind me.
Lets be honest - its an FPS, anybody who can use a pistol in The Orange Box can use a rocket launcher in Resistance - no need to have to level up or anything.
brickwalker0 @ Nov 14th 2008 3:47PM
that guy's post did seem a bit harsh. a few of those issues outlined as "intentional" shouldve been changed before the game went live or should be patched in.
as far as CoD:WaW vs R2: i suggest renting CoD:WaW before buying it. i had a blast with the Campaign but the multiplayer feels like a watered down copy and paste of CoD4. and even in some of the things Treyarch copied from Infinity Ward, they did poorly or isnt as fleshed out as it should be (knifing/meleeing comes to mind)
R2 is a lot of fun, and as soon as they fix split screen competitive and coop, my friend and i are going to have a blast. the campaign was fun, nothing jaw dropping. the competitive mode is what is really keeping me coming back though. reminds me of a mixture of Halo 3 and CoD4.
kentuckyfried @ Nov 14th 2008 4:45PM
I played the beta online for R2, it's fun...I still prefer WAW though. I don't know why people say it's watered down, if anything, there's isn't anything ground-breaking about the title, but it looks and plays as good/better. I mean, hell, you can actually see your buddies as purple pointers now on the radar so that you can *actually* play with some tactics, whereas before, you could never coordinate movements without using a mic.
Kilo720 @ Nov 14th 2008 5:43PM
i say get get r2
it have minor problem and ok story it a really fun multi player
so you wont notice those problem to much while playing
i agree with u the 2 player stat
brian @ Nov 14th 2008 6:55PM
i cannot even play r2 online. i get a connection error just about every time i play. meanwhile, i have 10 other games that i can play online and i have never lost a connection in this way. there are other people who i have talked to that have the same problem with r2 only
Spallit @ Nov 17th 2008 11:33PM
Same here. Major connection issues when trying to join games. Also, have not been able to join any friends games at all.
Very sloppy, I hope the fix it soon.
Eric E @ Nov 14th 2008 3:45PM
wow, sometimes it really does wait to be patient to play a game, i'll get around to it, but it'll be fixed and cheaper hopefully.
dean @ Nov 14th 2008 3:57PM
split screen co-op....2nd players stats NEED to be saved. My roomie has an account on my ps3...but there is no option to use it. Everytime we play split screen he always has to use a level one whatever... that SUCKS.
Joe @ Nov 14th 2008 4:06PM
Seriously, that blows no XP saved for the split-screen 2nd player. We expect better, Insomniac!
lenny0487 @ Nov 14th 2008 5:15PM
thats not an Insomniac Issue, thats a PSN issue. the PS3 must be updated to allow multiple logins on the same game. Kind of how Halo 3 does it.
dean @ Nov 14th 2008 6:16PM
rocket powered battle cars, and little big planet are both able to do this, why cant R2?
SaMav @ Nov 14th 2008 7:22PM
Little Big Planet does not allow 2 PSN accounts to be logged in at once.
Ptrack_Git @ Nov 16th 2008 1:52AM
Yes it dose, and it saves the stuff they collect; me and my wife play together all the time.
Nick @ Nov 14th 2008 3:59PM
How about allowing players to join their friends in a game? It's cool to join their party but pretty pointless to just sit there and wait for the round to end. It's also pretty irritating when you die in co-op mode, finish a round, or finish a game in competitive and then you just go back to the main menu. Why isn't there an option to just play again or pick another map? Other than those two gripes I have, the game is pretty god damn awesome.
CrzyNick @ Nov 14th 2008 4:22PM
Hell yeah
You should post that on their blog(I doubt they'll see this).
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 14th 2008 5:00PM
Yeah. I have a problem with that too. If my party joins a game and one person accidentally hits "O" when at the "select a class" screen, they cannot rejoin the game we are in unless I invite them. Same if their console kicks them out (crash/network problem). There should be a "join game" option when you click on a friend/party member who is in a game and there is space available.
I do like the multiplayer though. Both co-op and competitive are good. Single player is sufficient, the boss fights suck though.
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 14th 2008 4:09PM
so a few hundred thousand people have connection problems and its OUR Faults!?!?!?
I'm guaranteed to have network errors twice a day.....doesnt happen with any OTHER game yet its MY fault.......
Robert @ Nov 14th 2008 4:28PM
Ease up on the hyperbole! A few hundred thousand people having connection problems? The game probably has sold around 1/2 million (and who knows how many actually play online), yet you state that 300,000+ people are having connection problems. For a PS3 game, I think R2 actually has had better online play from the get-go then most (which perhaps isn't saying much). Not to say its the user's problem (as there are probably some overloading issues with the R2 servers), but your exaggeration probably doesn't help any.
Hotrod @ Nov 14th 2008 5:49PM
I disconnect about 50% of the time... Do you know how much XP I have lost out on so far!!??
And I really hope Insomniac sold more than 1/2 Million copies.
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 15th 2008 12:14PM
I was being positive.......in the sense that R2 will sell a few million copies by year end and in doing so the problem would be more wide spread........
I mean the XP I gained up to the point of the error saves.....(I think) but its terrible..........
and its NO WAY it could be the fault of everyone that its happening to.......like I said.........I dont have the issue in Warhawk, Quantum of Solace, Orange Box, GTA4(since the patch), LBP(Since the patch), R:FoM or any other game I have played online........for them to say its OUR faults is just straight up wrong........
CrzyNick @ Nov 14th 2008 4:59PM
"There is no round balancing between rounds."
They can't be serious, this needs to be added.
Everytime I go to play a ranked game and people start leaving we get our ass owned. I've played long games with 15 against 3 wtf.Seriously they shouldn't have an unbeatable team killing 3 (even saw 1 person once), what they should do is move the other teams best player to balance out the game.
Just when people leave though.
Tez @ Nov 14th 2008 4:20PM
Sorry, I was about to buy this because most of my friends loved playing 2-player split screen co-op. But if they have to start at Level 1 every single time, it's no sale for me. That's insanely stupid.
lenny0487 @ Nov 14th 2008 5:20PM
As I said before, its not a game issue, its a PS3/PSN issue. the PS3 must be updated to allow Multiple Logins at the same time in the same game, Like Halo 3.
Tez @ Nov 14th 2008 5:25PM
It doesn't need to use someone's PSN ID, though. The game could just have a guest profile that saves the experience. Or, the guest player could just be allowed to use equipment based on MY experience/level.
Though what you're talking about would be great, too, of course.
s256 @ Nov 15th 2008 1:45AM
I'm sure they could have had it so the 2nd player's stats are attached to the PSN ID that's logged in. They don't necessarily have to have two logins for it to be saved.
Greg @ Nov 14th 2008 4:22PM
Nothing jaw dropping? Uh the bosses are HUGE! The chimera are ruthless, and the grims are totally creepy. I would like for player 2 to save stats, but not many other games with online coop even let you play split screen, on the PS3 any ways. This is something that XBOX got right, however not every game saves stats for player 2 on XBOX either. I still prefer my PS3 though. And my friends can buy their own PS3 if they are concerned with keeping their own stats.
ocdog45 @ Nov 14th 2008 4:21PM
the game is not bad and seems like these are little things. still solid gameplay.
Polkster @ Nov 14th 2008 4:25PM
Oh wow, another generic first person shooter. Awesome.
Imran @ Nov 14th 2008 4:36PM
Comes complete with bugs too! And unnecessary limitations! Sign me up!
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 14th 2008 4:40PM
I use HDMI audio out (not optical). My first game began without the center channel, so no dialogue played. I switched it to stereo and back and it worked again. It hasn't happened since.
The 4:3 in splitscreen is complete BS. For shame.
Sometimes when you view people in your party or in game, you see a different rank symbol than they really have. I'm still a private and I sometimes show up with 3 stars (I have 2) or as a PFC. Clicking on the character seems to always show the proper rank and XP level.
Not being able to use other people's save games is BS. The ability to do this was one of the things that I liked about the PS3, and why I railed against achievements. I play video games for me, not for others. If I want to spoil single player games for myself by loading a save game that's far ahead of where I am, I should be able to. The game should simply stop giving trophies if I load someone else's save game.
BioShock is the same way on PS3. I've finished it (on 360), and a friend wanted to show me part of a level and a technique he used. So he brought the game and his save game over. I tried to load it and it said I couldn't. Ridiculous.
And don't even get me started about not being able to even BACK UP your Rock Band and Rock Band 2 save games. Sony tells me to do so (in case my HDD/console dies), and I can't because they set the no copy/move bit.
Vcize @ Nov 14th 2008 4:50PM
Couldn't you just load his username/gamertag on your machine, and then you'd be able to use his save under that name?
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 15th 2008 12:56AM
Not when he isn't around.
Again, I play games for myself. Restricting what I can do that doesn't affect others is doing me a disservice. Stop this stupid crap Sony.
Polkster @ Nov 14th 2008 4:40PM
I'm generally not a fan of Insomniac. They've mastered the art of being totally unremarkable.
What, Resistance II is just as generic as Resistance I (save for some inconsequential gimmicks)? Ratchet and Clank PS3 plays just like the original (save for some inconsquential gimmicks)?
I think of Insomniac games as Naughty Dog's uninspired, dull, mildly inbred cousin.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 14th 2008 4:45PM
R&C3 (on PS2) was actually better than RCF:ToD (R&C5, PS3), IMHO.
Still, both are very good games. I don't find them dull.
Rick @ Nov 14th 2008 4:41PM
wow, looks like that over-glorified beta didn't help insomniac one bit.
Popfrogs @ Nov 14th 2008 5:16PM
I don't know how over-glorified it was, but they did a fair amount of patching from what I heard. I played the beta a few times and the first time it updated to 1.03.
If they're not going to listen to their customers (no server balancing, wtf), we don't have to buy their game. It's really simple.
JnerV @ Nov 14th 2008 5:14PM
Where did get the writer of this article get the information for the Intentional and will not be altered list. There is only ONE thing from that list that I saw from the actual post from insomniac that they say in the post that it is intentional! Read it for yourself.
Popfrogs @ Nov 14th 2008 5:58PM
Dude, you're right. I just checked and I don't see where Majed came up with his headings. The original article doesn't even list stuff like this.
JnerV @ Nov 14th 2008 5:23PM
I know dude I couldn't believe it! I was going to bitch at insomniac for not the fact that no round balancing was Intentional according to Majed's post. I read the post by insomniac and they say they ARE aware of that problem and ARE working on it just like the rest of the problems on there such as split screen stats they are fixing as well as pretty much everything on the list of "intentional" problems.
JnerV @ Nov 14th 2008 5:28PM
I know dude I couldn't believe it! They are fixing pretty much ALL of the problems Majed says are Intentional and will not be altered!
James Stevenson @ Nov 14th 2008 5:35PM
Hey all,
Many items on this list will be fixed, including saving second players stats. We need a PSN/firmware patch to allow us to log in too players at once --- as soon as that happens, we will patch R2.
Those are just current known issues that we don't need another thread on the MyRes boards about.
JS
Napalm @ Nov 14th 2008 6:14PM
thanks, you are the man!
stargateheaven @ Nov 14th 2008 7:30PM
a patch is not needed for the ps3. it's the game. Littlebigplanet already allows multiple accounts to be logged in, or even as a "guest" like on the 360.
Efeez1986 @ Nov 14th 2008 5:58PM
Why are y'all overreacting? Insomniac has clearly stated that their aware of the issues and they are working on them. Saying that your not going to get R2 because of these issues is stupid, it's one of the best games of the year and the campaign alone is worth $60.
Tyler @ Nov 14th 2008 6:10PM
The second players stats not saving is the biggest issue on the list... so are the (ever so frequent) network errors. Which do NOT appear in Warhawk I might add.
Round balancing would be a nice touch however...
I hope they decide to put it in!
Also, the medic lvl 26 upgrade (for 200gray tech) is supposed to do more damage... It does not really work as well as (I thought) it should... in fact it randomly/rarely works...
If you are a medic looking into that upgrade, I suggest saving up for a better one, or getting a lower one!
WhiteShield @ Nov 14th 2008 6:38PM
the only thing i don't like was the split screen player 2 not saving. had a friend over when the game came out for the weekend and file for him didnt save, made me upset. the offline multiplayer is a dissapointment
j.howlett @ Nov 14th 2008 7:23PM
i haven't obtained R2 yet but in the first i would some times not get my exp for a couple rounds or get enough points to rank up, stop for the day and go back to find a message that i was promoted
stargateheaven @ Nov 14th 2008 7:30PM
"The game manual says that there is a one-hit kill game mode, but there is not an option for this in the game. There is intentionally no one-hit kill option, the manual is a misprint"
are you kidding me? they ACCIDENTLY typed "there is a one hit game mode" in the manual. doesn't sound like a mistake to me. They might aswell add it to conform with the game manual.
konungr @ Nov 14th 2008 8:01PM
Obviously they didn't. They probably just changed their mind about the 1-hit kill game mode, but didn't/couldn't change the manual.
Jay [psn: jayrockslife] @ Nov 14th 2008 10:33PM
I'm almost positive that on of the IG staff said on myresistance that they were going to patch it so that player 2 can log in with one of the other user accounts on the ps3. Just like in LBP.
