SCEE has confirmed to Eurogamer that the PS3 controller chatpad add-on will be making its way to European stores before its American release in "
early December." Specificially, Europeans will be able to get their hands on the full qwerty keyboard controller expansion on November 28th for the price of £24.99. No price in Euros has been revealed yet.
A touch pricey, but the chatpad will be very handy for those who prefer to text chat rather than using a headset. Games like
LittleBigPlanet can only benefit from it, not to mention the imminent
Home open beta. Might be worth grabbing just for that.

NICE, I'M PICKING IT UP ONCE IT HITS THE STATES, I CAN DEFINITELY USE ONE FOR LBP, THE HOME BETA, AND MORE!!! :D
Dougal @ Nov 18th 2008 12:13PM
Plus the chatpad has the added benefit of a shift key, unlike normal keyboards. So you'll be able to type properly.
Oh wait, that's not right.

Hey, you see that button to the left that says
Caps Lock? press it!
Stop typing in uppercase you idiot!

THE GUARDIAN @ Nov 18th 2008 12:13PM
I LIKE THE WAY IT FITS PERFECTLY WITH THE CONTROLLER AND DOESN'T BLOCK ANY OF THE SHOULDER AND FACE BUTTONS AND I LIKE THE DESIGN!!! :D
rickjamess @ Nov 18th 2008 2:06PM
I just have the logitech mediaboard--works great. can use it to type in lbp if I dont want to use my headset and it costs about the same amount.
Jon Acheson @ Nov 18th 2008 2:41PM
I just ordered the Mediaboard from Amazon for $59.99, which seems like a good price. I had seen it in Micro Center, but they wanted $80, which was too much.
Jon Acheson @ Nov 19th 2008 11:24AM
Wow! Got it overnight, and that was using their free Super Saver shipping. Chalk up one satisfied customer. Now to see how well it works...

UM DUDE, THE LITTLE UP ARROWS ON EACH SIDE OF THE PAD ARE THE SHIFT KEYS, IT DOES HAVE THEM!!! :D

It was the suggestion that you'd be able to type properly that I was trying to say wasn't right ;)
BLee @ Nov 18th 2008 7:22PM
THE GUARDIAN is my new favorite poster.. lol
justme @ Nov 18th 2008 12:33PM
Push the 'cursor mode key' and, the surface of keypad can also be used as a touchpad just like a mouse ! ..cool
DETH-DEFIANCE @ Nov 18th 2008 12:42PM
..Or you could pop into Argos and buy a USB keyboard for 7 pounds....or a blue-tooth keyboard.
Packfan @ Nov 18th 2008 12:47PM
How about a ton of us don't want a full sized keyboard on our lap when we're playing...
Jake @ Nov 18th 2008 12:47PM
this is on my to get list, but i'm not rushing to get it. Would love to have a feel of it before purchasing
Archon @ Nov 18th 2008 12:52PM
You all seem to forget that the price comes from the fact that it is supposed to be a proper Bluetooth Keyboard.
rgoff31 @ Nov 18th 2008 1:05PM
I'll stick with my Wireless USB PC keyboard.
benny boy @ Nov 18th 2008 1:26PM
You do that.
benny boy @ Nov 18th 2008 1:27PM
I don't understand everyone's exclamation about the price. It's not that bad. It's the same price as the Eye. perhaps a bit cheaper at play.com
Van Faulk @ Nov 18th 2008 2:12PM
Because the 360 version fullfills essentially all the same functions and comes with a headset....and is about 15 dollars cheaper and is located in a better place on the controller.
brickwalker0 @ Nov 18th 2008 2:28PM
i bought the Eye from Amazon for $23 with free shipping.
not the same price, and the Eye can not be replaced by something else (ie the keypad can be replaced by a USB keyboard)
benny boy @ Nov 18th 2008 3:05PM
I was talking about in the UK by the way where the Eye is £25 as opposed to this which is just £18 from play.com.
I don't know about the US but in the UK, this price isn't bad. It is an actual bluetooth keyboard that can be used with laptops and computers etc.
Can you say the same for the Xbox Chatpad?
deaftly @ Nov 18th 2008 1:39PM
Overpriced controller thong.
Cameron @ Nov 18th 2008 2:18PM
Any word on a headset for the PS3?
brickwalker0 @ Nov 18th 2008 2:28PM
Sony is really pushing the Bluetooth headsets.
one came with Warhawk and the new one comes with Socom: Confrontation
AltCtrlPwn @ Nov 18th 2008 2:55PM
Haha, very funny.
Wait, are you actually serious?
http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/02/sonys-socom-ps3-bluetooth-headset-get-official/
It's $49.99, and it's great. I got mine for ~$40 at work, and it works flawlessly with my phone and my console.
AltCtrlPwn @ Nov 18th 2008 2:57PM
Ah never mind, if it hasn't come out in Europe then . . . that sucks. Whenever it does come out though, I'd highly recommend it.
THE GUARDIAN @ Nov 18th 2008 2:35PM
WHY WAS MY FIRST POST VOTED DOWN, I DIDN'T OFFEND ANYONE!!! :(
Cameron @ Nov 18th 2008 3:21PM
Stop whining.
benny boy @ Nov 18th 2008 3:05PM
IF YOU STILL HAVEN'T FIGURED IT OUT, I THINK IT'S FOR THE BEST IF YOU JUST STAY QUIET.
brampf @ Nov 18th 2008 3:08PM
My PS3 gets me, she really understands. I have no need for one of these.
Topsu @ Nov 19th 2008 9:34AM
Damn. Finland doesn't get this until next year because of the 3 scandinavian letters. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU-
drdre74 @ Nov 18th 2008 4:20PM
sony is out of its mind to charge so much. The 360 version didnt sell that well. I can get one in the bargain bins now. No way I'm paying 50 bucks for this. More like 10 tops.
THE GUARDIAN @ Nov 18th 2008 4:33PM
WOW GUYS I WAS JUST COMMENTING, I DON'T THINK I DESERVED ALL THE HOSTILITY, I'M NOT WHINING I JUST HONESTLY DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I'M BEING ATTACKED??? :(
Justin @ Nov 18th 2008 4:55PM
If you don't understand why you're being attacked, you deserve to be attacked.
THE GUARDIAN @ Nov 18th 2008 5:10PM
I just realized some one posted about my using the caps lock, a post I actually honestly didn't notice before and if that was the problem then I apologise!!! :(
THE GUARDIAN @ Nov 18th 2008 5:18PM
I just realized all the hints you guys gave me lol sorry, I'm a little, ok allot, slow today!!! :D
benny boy @ Nov 18th 2008 6:22PM
lol. congratulations.
THE GUARDIAN @ Nov 18th 2008 6:36PM
Lol, I know, I know, you don't have to rub it in!!! :P ;D
LiquidusSnake @ Nov 19th 2008 2:24AM
pretty nifty... But seems like the weight of the controller may become unbalanced.
Dan Rabot @ Nov 19th 2008 4:53AM
Reckon i'll go for one of these, in the UK £25 is fairly cheap, everything cost more over here.
you know our new games are £40, ie $80 each right? Compared to that, £19 for this from play.com is quite a winner.
I find it very anti social to use the headset, when you've got mates round, or the girlfriend's home and I'm sat there on the headset, it's a bit rude I find. Would much prefer to type.
