Firmware v5.02 out soon
Here's another minor update to look out for soon -- though unless you find yourself having problems, you probably can go without this one. Firmware v5.02 doesn't do much except the fact that it "improves system software stability during use of some features, including the PlayStation Store." According to the Director of PlayStation Network Operations, Eric Lempel, the new update will be "available shortly."

Reaction to Datel's Blue Tool already?

i was thinking that too, i mean, they released this the same day they find out how to hack (supposedly) the psp 3000

I'm just glad that the PSP has an "off" switch for the WiFi. I can see Sony trying to force updates on you, which would be very, very irritating.
(Obligatory "CFW != piracy" statement before someone gets all self-righteous on me.)
redmotman @ Nov 19th 2008 6:53AM
yes i will like it the do that
TM @ Nov 19th 2008 12:32AM
It is pointless to discuss that because there will always be CFW and piracy but CFW does not equal piracy in every case. At any rate, 5.02 seems rather underwhelming. A new music visualization effect or something would make it nicer
aj @ Nov 19th 2008 12:07PM
But didn't the 5.0 update include one new music visualization? Or was that 4.0?
TM @ Nov 19th 2008 12:15PM
the wave effect is different based on if you are using the redesigned xmb or not

Would be nice if they throw in a surprise like divx/xvid support in the update... highly doubt it though but I can keep on wishing.

I want a worthy update, like Divx support! that's a good reason to update. But it seems psp updates are dying in a painful way.
My psp is working good, i don't need this kind of updates, i want the one that enhanced the system in some ways.
sturmdogg @ Nov 19th 2008 10:42AM
It would help make the CFW!=piracy if the ability to play unsigned ISOs would be taken out.

Sony needs to work on improving the PSN on psp. they have a store but they should add a friends list, a Home-like service specifically for psp, maybe a feature to allow users to play beta versions of psp games....something besides short boring updates like these. of course psp also needs more RAM and developers need more games.
cylet @ Nov 19th 2008 11:35AM
they just need to give north america more items on the PSN, for now i see it as pointless

I've had a heck of a time getting demos downloaded directly to the device to install correctly on my 8GB MSPD. Hopefully this will finally fix the issue.
gavin sumner @ Nov 20th 2008 3:09AM
The update is now live and changes absolutely nothing on an obvious level.
