Sony's Koller 'very interested' in Guitar Hero game on PSP
"Music is the number two use on the PSP, behind gaming. So, the marrying of those two concepts is of huge interest to us," Sony's John Koller told MTV Multiplayer. "And if there's that opportunity to launch a title like that or even a new title that utilizes music in some way, then obviously we're very interested."
The DS is home to a number of music games, from Elite Beat Agents to the peripheral-bundled Guitar Hero (pictured, above). PSP also features its fair share of music games, like beats and DJ Max. While these may be popular amongst hardcore gamers, none have come close to the runaway success of DS' music games. Considering PSP's native ability to store music, it seems like thinking up more ways to get user music in games is a good step for Sony to take.

Where would the peripheral plug in?
Maybe..Wireless? (:
b. dash @ Nov 18th 2008 1:33PM
the peripheral can plug in at the top and have the buttons at the bottom of the screen, then u can use the analog nub as your "pick"

Guitar Hero on the PSP would be pretty cool. I am not sure how it would work but I believe that they could find a way to make the game work.
Also seeing as the PSP can hook up to PSN you could then buy new songs off of PSN to play on the PSP.

Yeah, I guess the USB port is the same on all models?? Pass for me though, last thing I need is yet even MORE GH peripherials to store. And for a handheld at that. Pfft. I'm content to be content with my DS version for a handheld.
Although I bet they could really do a smashing job, I doubted how they would do it on the DS....and that was pretty cool IMHO. Very impressed.

Guitar Hero on PSP would be.....hit or miss I suppose. I think it might be an okay idea, but part of me is like 'wtf this is gonna be lame'.
lorddshadow2 @ Nov 18th 2008 5:26PM
i think the real issue is the tracklist. the tracklist on the ds was absolutely horrible. we need some real rock.
Nate @ Nov 18th 2008 2:23PM
Keep that crap on the DS. No thank you.
Guitar hero without the guitar is just lame. Period.
vahdyx @ Nov 20th 2008 11:15AM
Support!!!!
couldn't have said it better
aj @ Nov 18th 2008 8:13PM
Some would argue that pretending to play guitar with a big plastic controller is lame. To each his own, I suppose.
linebeginstoblur @ Nov 18th 2008 2:27PM
Give us another FreQuency/Amplitude, please! Since we don't have two sets of shoulder buttons, maybe something like L, R, and Triangle. Just a thought...
Scott @ Nov 18th 2008 3:03PM
AAAAH OMFG WHEN?????? luv guitar hero
Gurbinder @ Nov 18th 2008 3:17PM
I'm not interested in guitar hero either. I would perfer the little big planet for psp with an earlier release date. But seriously, Id consider Buzz master quiz over guitar hero for psp.
Gurbinder @ Nov 18th 2008 3:18PM
hmm, actually I take that back. I hate both of them
cafecito @ Nov 18th 2008 3:39PM
Guitar hero on the PSP would work just like DJ Max. It'd be great I guess... I can't get to enjoy my DJ Max 2 because of its silly high difficulty.
Warner Young @ Nov 18th 2008 3:45PM
A music game doesn't have to be Guitar Hero. If Sony's smart, they'll buy or license Audiosurf. I think the PSP has enough power to handle it. That would give us a game that lets us play our own songs. And I suppose Sony could always add some kind of DLC service where you could buy extra songs or something.
cafecito @ Nov 18th 2008 3:55PM
Uhhhh... Beats?
misterdbarton @ Nov 18th 2008 4:22PM
I mocked the following up a while ago (around the release of GH3)...

if you make this plz have about 40 to 60 songs. don't have 25 like the ds version. and also, make it have good audio. i really don't like paying money for songs on psn, xbox live, or wiiware.
sony boy @ Nov 18th 2008 6:11PM
also, sony got sued by some dumbass company, so they won't buy or licesen.
atastysammich @ Nov 18th 2008 5:17PM
Y'know what I'm very interested in? Jumping effin' Flash! 2 on the Playstation Store. I'd say that's a little more reasonable.
mike @ Nov 18th 2008 5:51PM
needs 5 buttons, fret button attachment, and DLC, then the game is going to sell, plus if it had the attachment, it would be a much harder game to pirate.
RushX @ Nov 18th 2008 7:58PM
Jesus, Sony. If music games are so important to you, then bring back Vib Ribbon with the ability to use MP3 tracks for the game.
aj @ Nov 18th 2008 8:17PM
Guitar Hero will never be on the PSP, because the PSP can play music. And that opens up everyone involved to lawsuits from the RIAA and so on.
Maybe Guitar Hero could use some whacky proprietary format, but that would be cracked in about five minutes, and then you're still getting sued by the RIAA and so on.
Of course, it would be awesome to be able to try some of MY music in Guitar Hero (Sonny Sharrock's songs would be immensely fun. And if I could put City of Caterpillar into GH, then I'd be a happy camper.).
CH32 @ Nov 18th 2008 9:07PM
DJMAX > Guitar hero
srsly guys, i like guitar hero, but I LOVE djmax(the only reason why i got a psp)
anyway, some good features in guitar hero could be to include a music player, the songs number would be little high...(2GIG for UMD vs. ROMS of 32MB)
Jeremy @ Nov 18th 2008 10:40PM
If sony wants music games on the PSP, why don't they make one? It's not like they don't have development studios or anything.
But as usual, they'd rather just talk big than deliver.
They could have had Singstar as a PSP game for the 3000 (using the built in mic), for instance. They could have done more with Beats.
Bobbie @ Nov 19th 2008 3:37AM
YES!
I am WILLING to PAY for a game for the very first time if Sony does this.
