PlayStation.com upgrade brings new community features
Not content with redesigning the PlayStation Blog, Sony has revealed further plans to develop the PlayStation web sites, starting with some added functionality coming soon. Both the PlayStation Blog and PlayStation.com will be updated on Monday to allow you to log in with your PlayStation Network ID. Not only that, but a player profile on the sites will show your PSN name, avatar and mini description. Presumably, these will be automatically pulled from your PSN account.
You will also be able to check your friends list online and rate and review games in your library on PlayStation.com. The announcement post ends with an instruction to stay tuned for more gamer profile updates to follow before the end of the year. We love to see the PS3 and its various websites becoming more fully integrated. Definitely looking forward to more details about what these upcoming profile updates could entail.

hatmantc @ Nov 19th 2008 8:41PM
yeah its been there. but it was a pain in the arse to use. hopefully, you'll be able to access and send messages.

So are we going to be able to check (and maybe manage) our friends list more conveniently than before? Hopefuly we can compare trophies and such against friends and other players.
anthonyjh @ Nov 19th 2008 8:43PM
BS! Those features have been available for a long time now. If I'm able to send messages from my pc I'll have to send Sony a big kiss, otherwise this isn't news.
drdre74 @ Nov 19th 2008 9:47PM
this will be nice to be able to do since i can never remember my usernames and passwords for all the sites
Tru-blu @ Nov 20th 2008 9:34AM
Same here. The less usernames & passwords for each site, the better.
TheHakku @ Nov 19th 2008 9:15PM
More gamer profile updates? PSN ID tags, yes?
The Aggie CEO @ Nov 19th 2008 9:16PM
So HOPEFULLY Sony will integrate their ENTIRE Database.........Sonystyle and the Sony Registration process included......
also the sooner we can manage our account online and see our trophies and latest games we have played will be NIIIIIIIIIIIIICE.......
I just want sites like Play.com to be able to AUTO update my info so I dont have to go thru all that everyday.......

Microsoft going ahead with the New XBOX Experience has been a good thing for Sony, because it has forced them to work hard on the PSN integration, and I see they're pushing Home out soon, and they're making their web site now PSN compatible (all it was before was just the PSN name and a friends list. Not 100% PSN friendly). I like it.
I just hope my forum profile is still in tact. Usernames with PSN names under is fine as it is now. Hopefully, they don't do something drastic there.

Well, I, being a GAP member, got an e-mail from Sony. It tells me to link my PSN ID to my Underground account now if I want to keep my GAP status. I already have that done. They said that "the PlayStation Underground is coming to an end". Looks like we'll have to say goodbye to the Underground. Sad. That name has been through a lot of my gaming life.
Goodbye Underground, I'll miss ya :'(

I agree. The NXE update is going to push Sony to adapt even more. Good thing Home has been approaching its release this year.
It's great that the PS community can get more of what the Xbox community has had for quite some time now (console/GamerTag integration, iPhone & AIM linkage, etc;) It wouldn't hurt to have private voice chat capabilities before the years end, Sony **wink wink, nudge nudge**
Oh and I completely support the HAL 9000 icon at the top. That is probably the individual's avatar, but it would be wicked sweet if it was for the entire ps.com/blog.
ryan @ Nov 19th 2008 11:11PM
8 player private chat wouldn't hurt. Wouldn't hurt one bit.
aj_3 @ Nov 20th 2008 9:55AM
+1 for iPhone integration!
jarhead906 @ Nov 20th 2008 7:57AM
I'm pretty confident that Sony announced a Party-like feature for Home long before the NXE was even mentioned. I remember it was brought up when discussing the movie / film area in Home.

This is very nice. Simplifying everything without dumbing it down. I find myself liking more and more all the work Sony puts into constantly evolving their products this generation.
russ @ Nov 20th 2008 3:23AM
and guess what?? This will be for US only. Stick it up your jacksie, EU!
stargateheaven @ Nov 20th 2008 8:31AM
Yeah what the hell , sony :(
kentuckyfried @ Nov 20th 2008 3:55AM
I thought I already linked my PS Underground account with the main PSN ID? I wonder why I was prompted to do it yet again...
Oh well, whatever works.
desikid @ Nov 20th 2008 5:29AM
Is this gonna add an interface so i can see my trophies in a browser without having to manually add them in? because i cant wait to see that happen, so i can show my xbox friends my trophies. Mostly to compare burnout paradise achievements/ trophies. Its hard to figure out who's farther u know.
grognard66 @ Nov 20th 2008 7:13AM
Live! has had website integration (view achievements, send messages from your computer to your friends list and now the ability to order content from the PC to your console) since the 360 launched. Sad to see Sony continuing to play catch-up 2 years after the PS3 launched rather than act like the leader it once was.
Rey @ Nov 20th 2008 8:24AM
Ok, so it doesnt come out..you botz bytch..if it does come out finally you botz bytch..You never cared if SONY did any of that you just feel the need to bash every thing that is SONY and progress to their lineup. No life I swear.
massive_98 @ Nov 20th 2008 10:44AM
Even as a PS3 supporter I can't help but vote you down Rey. You make all PS3 owners look like idiots.
Devin @ Nov 20th 2008 12:05PM
MS is a software company. Sony is a hardware company. What do you expect? It's good to see a HW company catching up to a software-based company, but what about the other way around?
