Amazon does us one better: PS3 as low as $200

So the UK may be getting a pretty sweet deal with an 80GB "Blu-ray entertainment" PS3 pack for 300 quid, but for us Americans, we've got something even sweeter ... potentially! Why potentially? Because some of you out there will get the deal, while others will not. This is how it works: Amazon is offering three different discounted packages to its members; however, they will have to vote for only one of these as the one they want.

Casting a vote enters you in a chance to buy the items at the discounted price, BUT only if the majority votes in favor of your bundled set. If your choice wins, then you have a chance to be one of the lucky 500 who can snag a PS3 at that amazingly low price. Seriously, a full functioning PS3 with built-in Wi-Fi and an HDD (plus extras) for the price of the stripped down Xbox 360 Arcade? It's a good value and worth trying if you don't already have a PS3. The voter's bundle winner will go on sale by Friday, Nov. 28. So, just what are the choices? The image above shows it all, though we've written everything down after the break. And, of course, hit Amazon to vote!

That was how it worked last year. This year Amazon says clear as day:

# Customers Vote is a race. If you're randomly selected to participate in the race to buy, you still need to check what time the buying starts for each deal that round and log-in early, as we expect to have many more people participating than we have deals available.
# If selected, you may choose to purchase any or all of the items for that round, not just the product you voted for, as long as supplies are available.

So it doesn't matter which you vote for as long as you vote. Although I suppose multiple accounts might increase your chances of receiving one of the random entries.

I remember when Amazon first started these one day deals. Still have my $100 Xbox360. Back then it was first come first served, now it is a lottery. Have not won big ticket item since, did get an outstanding pocket knife for $3 though...

It is the stand-alone 80 gig PS3 that is for sale now.

i.e. no b/c, 2 usb ports, no card reader.

I voted for the more expenseive pack, with the Bond films.

I don't care which one wins, I'll be buying it if I get a chance, solely for a Blu-ray player.

Of course, there was a $100 Blu-ray player in another vote-off.
