PS3F answers: You mean you want to use it like a memory card, right? You won't be able to do this. Almost all games incorporate an auto-save feature which links to your primary storage, the internal HDD. The system is not designed to read and write data to an external HDD for in-game purposes. You can, however, use it to back up your entire system, in case you are worried about corrupted files and other data loss problems.
Jono B. asks: I was just wondering if THIS hard drive would work if I replaced it with my current 60GB hard drive. Also, have you any tips on stopping your PS3 from being full?
Majed answers: Yep, that particular HDD will definitely work with your PS3. In fact, it's strikingly similar to the one I have installed on my console. As for tips, just make sure you delete any trailers and demos you won't need. Those files take up most of the space on an HDD. Also make sure you delete any mandatory installs or game/save data you wish not to keep -- though, save data is usually a trivial amount.

Conor M. asks: When you have purchased and downloaded LittleBigPlanet DLC, can you download it again, even after it has left the PS store?
PS3F answers: If the content is removed from the store, it won't be available for download again simply because it's been removed. That rarely happens, if ever at all. If you are wondering whether you can re-download DLC from the store in case you've deleted it from your HDD, then yes, you can -- at least most of the DLC that is available can be downloaded to the same owner account multiple times, if necessary. Also, most DLC can be downloaded and shared between five PS3 consoles. So, if for some reason you have five PS3s in your house, you can have the DLC on all five.
Cody K. asks: When does the 160GB PS3 come out?
PS3F answers: Cody, it's out! Go get one!
Kiet R. asks: I'm not really into strategy RPGs, but I played the demo for Valkyria Chronicles and it was really good. Do you think there will be a PSP version?
PS3F answers: We're remembering back to E3 when it was accidentally mentioned that Valkyria Chronicles would be on PSP. That mistake actually opened up a lot of interest amongst us here at the Fanboy, and we'd be really interested in seeing a portable version. Honestly though, it's really too early to tell such a thing and Sega would probably not be ready to talk about something like that. The game just released this month and Sega will still have to see how the game performs in the numbers. If it does well, then who knows if something could be worked out.

Conor M. asks: When you have purchased and downloaded LittleBigPlanet DLC, can you download it again, even after it has left the PS store?
To answer your question Conor, yes you can, it will be in your Download List.
For ex. The LBP spaceman (which is no longer on there can be downloaded from the list)
IcerC @ Nov 22nd 2008 5:37PM
PS3fanboy, any software you have downloaded will be available even if it is not on the PlayStation Store.
I can still download GTHD from my download list and that title is not on the store.

thanks. but i thought it was just the halloween costume that was gone, but the spaceman suit was still there?
IcerC @ Nov 22nd 2008 6:11PM
The spaceman and pumpkin are Seasonal & Limited Time Only Costumes. The were only until November 19th... but if you have a friend that got them you could always download from his download list if you really wanted them.

You can, however, use an external HDD to play back videos, music, and pictures. Super useful.

PSFanboy... seeing as you contact Sony and developers and are up there in the communications worlds... Could you ask Sony to address the 60gb failure problem aha?
JerJerBinks @ Nov 22nd 2008 8:26PM
Did yours fail recently? There seems to have been an outbreak of 60GB systems that have failed in the last 2-3 weeks. My poor PS3 died last Sunday, just got my cardboard coffin on Friday. Hopefully I will have a working, backwards compatible, PS3 in a weeks time.

The same thing happened to my friend just a few weeks back. He said that his 60 GB PS3 got something called, "yellow light of death".
On a side note, my PS3 80 GB's disc drive was fucked last week when I attempted - and successfully - restarted the console due to a game freeze. I thought it would be alright after restarting, but unfortunately it couldn't recognize any disc types I inserted in the drive. Can anyone explain why it happened and if there is a fix for this, or is the only way to alleviate the problem to return it to Sony?
JerJerBinks @ Nov 23rd 2008 11:28AM
That's the problem I have, yellow light of death. Its really more of a beeping-blinking red light of death. The yellow light only flashes for a brief moment as evidenced in the video below.

In regards to the question concerning the use of an external hard drive as the PS3's drive I think it's worth noting that there is an adapter out there available for $26 that will allow you to replace the internal hard drive with any 3.5 SATA or IDE drive.

"We're remembering back to E3 when it was accidentally mentioned that Valkyria Chronicles would be on PSP."
It was more than just "accidentally mentioned", considering the fact that Sony included the game in their demo reel of upcoming PSP titles, complete with video of the _PS3_ game in action. Sadly, I and other fans felt that this is how low of an opinion someone at SCEA (or whatever firm they hired to compile the trailers) had regarding the graphical quality of the game. "This durn game looks like one of them cartoons, so it must be for the handheld bugger!"
For the record, my only main gripe regarding the visuals has to do with the lack of 1080i/p support, as my HDTV only gets to display this lovely title in 480p, and I know I'm not alone on this one.

PS3 Fanboy...I just got a new hdd for my ps3. did a full back up beforehand, installed the new hdd and then restored the backup to the ps3. Everything workd fine and dandy except for one thing. Whenever I try to get on Metal Gear Online now it doesn't load and MGS4 quits and goes back to the xmb. Any insight on this?
