Get a PlayStation credit card, get $150 off PS3 purchase
Still looking to score a PS3 for yourself or a friend? Then take a look at this deal which can net you an 80GB PS3 for as low as $250 and a 160GB for only $350. So what's the catch you ask? You'll need to apply for a PlayStation credit card. Though it isn't that much of a catch when you consider that there is no annual fee, you'll get full Visa Platinum benefits, and double the normal warranty protection all alongside the discounted offer (and further Sony-related discounts in the future).
To avail of the deal, you can apply here and grab the discount online, or apply here and be instantly approved at any authorized Sony retailer. This offer is only valid until December 31, 2008. Just make sure you double-check those APR percentages and see to it that they meet your approval before making any decision. And, if you don't know what APR is, then you're probably not old enough for a credit card. Try again next year children!

"Thanks for Applying!
We are currently reviewing your application. You will be notified in writing about the status of your application within 30 days."
Hint, kids: that means "NO, YOUR CREDIT SUCKS"
tuaamin13 @ Nov 25th 2008 7:33AM
Actually, they claim 30 days but when I filled out the app (a few months ago) I had my card in a week.
I like how you can get triple points by buying stuff from the PSN Store, and triple points for buying PS3 games by just filling out a form and printing a receipt.
They NEVER update their rewards it seems. They still have Resistance: Fall of Man for 6000 points, and the game retails for $30 now. Eye of Judgement (with PS Eye) is 6850, and they haven't put Resistance 2 or LBP up on their rewards site yet.
Shiri @ Nov 28th 2008 1:49PM
Got the same reply as you. My credit score is 715 so I guess it ain't quite high enough for Sony ;p
Mark Healy @ Jan 8th 2009 6:53AM
How about here you can have the card but oops...we are not sure you will get the credit on the charge card. The companyclaims lots of confusion with the instand $150 account credit. The people you talk to have no idea what they are doing. It all screams red flag to me. BEWARE! Will call you back and have not yet. I will report this to the proper authorites. Shame on Sony and Chase.
Phantom @ Nov 24th 2008 9:32PM
Wait , so what is APR ?
Do you have to be 18+ to get this . It would be so awesome to have a Playstation credit Card .
Packfan @ Nov 24th 2008 9:33PM
You have to be 18 to have a credit card. Unless you have your mommy and daddy co-sign, which they won't so they won't lose everything they own.
Kspraydad @ Nov 24th 2008 11:32PM
There is a 'terms and conditions' link that isn't hard to find.
10.99% on your purchase over $299 if not paid within the year.
No annual fee.
Double the warranty.
Crap I wish I was an American just for this deal. (and cheese in a can of course)
Gaucho @ Nov 24th 2008 9:38PM
Though it is a very stylish credit card, it doesn't say the APR up front . . . I can only imagine this is a bad sign but then again so is applying to credit cards just because they look nice.
DrunkRaba @ Nov 24th 2008 10:13PM
The site, if you click the link, says 10.99% Not bad for starters really.
Shaun @ Nov 24th 2008 11:35PM
Sorry DrunkRaba, but 10.99% is only on cash advances. It says that it could be up to 29.99% APR which is God awful.
Shaun @ Nov 24th 2008 11:38PM
* I meant balance transfers, not cash advances. Cash advances are 19.99%. Balance transfers are 10.99%, and the default APR is 26.99%-29.99%
Kspraydad @ Nov 24th 2008 11:49PM
Shaun...the rate on purchases is 10.99%
Default APR means the APR if you are IN default...it doesn't mean the standard APR.
Quote:
Annual Percentage Rate (APR) for purchases
10.99% variable
For one or more purchases that post to your account within 45 days of account opening, on a single sales receipt at SonyStyle or SonyStyle.com with a value of $299 or more (Qualifying Purchase), provided your account is not past due on the purchase date: 0% fixed for the first 12 billing cycles following the purchase date (promotional period). If promotional balance is not paid off by the end of the promotional period, 10.99% variable from qualifying purchase date.
Shaun @ Nov 25th 2008 1:02AM
i see. thanks. it doesn't matter much to me. I pay off my card each month. ^_^
Game_playa @ Nov 24th 2008 9:47PM
I have the sonystyle one
kentuckyfried @ Nov 24th 2008 11:38PM
Me too...if this card doesn't have reward points, I'm not going to bother.
Dehshizknight @ Nov 24th 2008 11:51PM
Actually I recall the PlayStation.Blog post saying that it builds towards PlayStation Store purchases.
Dehshizknight @ Nov 24th 2008 11:53PM
Nevermind, it says "PlayStation and Sony products".
JK @ Nov 24th 2008 10:27PM
They should just have a commercial for this, it would sell far more PS3s than any other current marketing scheme out there right now.
SuperGayParade @ Nov 24th 2008 10:31PM
I did this a ways back with the SonyCard for a $100 rebate... I have no idea if it was ever applied. Whether the discount is immediate is a big deal :D
nakedatthecomp @ Nov 24th 2008 11:12PM
wait, 160GB?!
iDiaz @ Nov 25th 2008 1:12AM
Right?! I thought I was hallucinating, reading all of these comments that didn't mention that. What's this about a 160 GB PS3?
Kspraydad @ Nov 25th 2008 1:22AM
160GB PS3 with Uncharted 499.
Kinda been in the news for awhile now.
Announcement:
http://playstation.joystiq.com/2008/08/20/160gb-model-also-announced-for-america-499-november-release/
ruibing @ Nov 24th 2008 11:30PM
Does this credit card have any other reward system? Like a point for every dollar you spend and etc.
Kspraydad @ Nov 24th 2008 11:56PM
Yes. It is also a SONY Rewards card:
http://www.sonyrewards.com/en/footer/terms_of_use/
Vcize @ Nov 25th 2008 9:35AM
Yes, but the rewards system is horrible. I wouldn't recommend this card as a primary card at all. Use it for the discount if you can deal with the hard pull, and then just let it sit.
If you're looking for good rewards on cards that are easy to get go with a Chase Freedom if you spend a normal amount, or Amex Blue Cash if you're a big spender.
josh @ Nov 25th 2008 12:21AM
Not hip on these plastic money card things, so explain to me. If you were to apply, get accepted, buy the PS3 for cheap, and then never charge anything to the card would you simply get the discount for free? Or am I missing a catch somewhere?
Kspraydad @ Nov 25th 2008 12:57AM
Correct.
Make the purchase withing 45 days of account opening.
Pay is off within 12 mos of purchase date.
Walk away with PS3 for $250 and double the warrenty period.
Vcize @ Nov 25th 2008 9:33AM
The only "catch" is that in the very short term, it will hurt your credit. Please don't go around applying for random cards without reading up on how it will affect your credit some.
Though if you don't have any cards at this point, you should really open one to start building some credit.
ZeroSection @ Nov 25th 2008 1:33AM
I just got the same message as the first commenter. Guess im SOL?
brettjr @ Nov 25th 2008 2:42AM
uh...I already have a PS3 which is why I'm here, could I get like two free games or something?
Sam @ Nov 25th 2008 6:59AM
Does that credit card belong to Dana Barrett?
I wonder if using the card gets her special ghost-busting discounts...
Angel Harrolds @ Nov 25th 2008 7:35AM
I acquired a PS2 for a few months now, but didn't really have time to play on it. I started searching for cool games, read lots of reviews to find the coolest PS2 games. During my search I found tons of great reviews, the latest game releases and game related news on PC District. I visit it regularly since I'm still interested in cool games for PS2 or any other platform.
Vcize @ Nov 25th 2008 9:32AM
This has been going on with the Sony card for around 2 years now. The only difference here is that the card says "Playstation" instead of "Sony".
In fact, this is what I used to buy my 60gb PS3 way back when.
Nikki @ Dec 1st 2008 4:06PM
Actually if you read the terms and conditions, you get 0% for 12 months on purchases greater than $299. that means if you get the card, purchase the system for at least $299 you will get the 0% and the $150 card credit! This ROCKS!!!!
linebeginstoblur @ Nov 25th 2008 11:42AM
1) Already have a PS3 (with BC)
2) Already have a credit card (Amazon.com's Reward Visa)
Thanks, but no thanks.
kentuckyfried @ Nov 25th 2008 6:31PM
Unfortunately, it appears this card falls under the same category as the Sony Rewards card offered by Chase. So the portal takes me to my usual Rewards site without the $150 bonus towards another ps3 purchase. -_-
travis @ Dec 5th 2008 3:19PM
I applied and I have 780 score. Got the same message. Only 10% of people have higher rating. Whats up with that?
Victor @ Dec 12th 2008 12:23AM
I don't think the first link approves you right away. My younger brother applied with that link and got the 30 day message. I applied with the Authorized dealer link and got approved right away, though they don't provide you an account number or anything. I should get the card within 2 weeks, which is enough time to get the PS3 before Dec 31st.
Per the 2nd comment, he/she also got the 30 day message and got his card 7 days after. I'll let you all know if my brother got his card or not.
Does anyone know if Amazon is considered an Authorized Sony dealer? I was planning to buy the PS3 from there (free shipping + no tax)
Thanks.
Amy @ Dec 17th 2008 3:43AM
It looks like most major retailers are on the authorized dealer list: Amazon, Walmart, Target, etc....
Here is the link to check:

Tommy @ Jan 2nd 2009 1:52PM
I signed up for this deal about a week before the offer ended. I haven't got anything yet. This is my first credit card so does anyone know my chances of being approved?
Thank you.
Shaun @ Jan 15th 2009 6:19PM
I just applied the other day and got instantly approved. I'd say it didn't take but a couple of minutes.
I did have one question though. When I got approved the message also stated that I could use up to the limit immediately (w/o the physical card) and gave me an accout and 3-digit security code (found on the back of credit cards). I went into the Sony Style store to purchase the PS3 but the sales rep said the account given is only good for that day. The clerk wouldn't even try the account #. Can anyone chime in and enlighten me? I don't remember seeing anything in that message about the limited use and would figure something like that would've be highlighted. Thanks
jas @ Jan 28th 2009 8:56PM
i just applied last night and got approved in about 30 seconds for $5k
i got a temp pin
i tried buying on sonystyle after that but it kept declining.
i read somewhere on net, that you need to call customer service and they need to manually clear the transaction.
i ended up ordering ps3 from dell the next day (today) and the transaction went through.
I am not sure, but have read that credit for $150 (offer was till dec31, but some claim is still valid till jan31)
OR
$100 (that shows on sony website)
will show up.
I have read that its automatic after your first purchase.
