AC Adaptor charges two peripherals, available for $25
In addition to the costly wireless keypad, Sony is planning on introducing a new PS3 peripheral to market in December. The AC Adapter will be able to charge any two USB devices, from controllers to the Bluetooth headset to the wireless keypad. Heck, it can even charge the PSP-2000 and 3000. This will allow you to charge peripherals without having your PS3 turned on.
You can expect the peripheral on retail shelves in the second week of December for $25. However, remember -- you can save a bit of money by using your computer to charge your USB devices. You can plug a USB cable into your computer and charge a PS3 controller from there. Or, just remember to charge something while playing games on the PS3.

Why is Sony overpricing these peripherals? $25 for an AC cable and a power converter? You can buy a USB AC charger for $10 if you find it on the internet.
Keyboard for $50!? Why in hell would you buy a small, nonergonomic keyboard for $50, when you can practically get a AAA game for that price. Sony's gotta drop the price on these, and after all, those who bought at launch got an overpriced PS3 too...(me)
Kev. Not flaming anymore @ Nov 26th 2008 10:33AM
its sony what do you expect. its quality.
Mo @ Nov 26th 2008 3:16PM
if it bothers you that much, go buy a MadCrapz usb/RF thing and ebay a usb ac adapter.
for those of us that prefer 1st party peripherals from a quality manufacturer, we will do so, even if we cant really afford it.
but please, stop hating... you dont like, you dont buy.
k?thxbi

Or, you know, you could buy two of these for $1.70

They don't work, I tried. All regular USB chargers will not charge the controllers.
JakeDunn @ Nov 26th 2008 10:49AM
So wait, the keyboard clicks on the controller but still needs to be charged separately?
AltCtrlPwn @ Nov 26th 2008 3:17PM
Looks like it, which is good . . . don't want that thing shortening the battery life on the controller whenever I use it (assuming I get it, but at $49.99 I doubt it).
HAAS599 @ Nov 26th 2008 1:30PM
the keypad is powered by the 6axis and it has a plug to charge the 6axis so you dont have to take the keypad off to charge it.
kspraydad @ Nov 26th 2008 3:10PM
The keyboard and controller EACH have their own battery. You can charge one or the other seprately OR if you have them connected you are charging BOTH.
The keyboard can be used without it being attached to the controller...therefore it needs its own battery.

Al2x: $25 for a power supply that give you 5 volts, and 1 amp (500mA per USB ports) is cheap, particularly since it will likely be high quality and reliable.
Rob: Quite often those Ipod adapter provide only 100mA and will take much longer to charge your controller.
JakeDunn: I think you're charging the controller, who's powering the keyboard, not the keyboard itself, but I could be wrong...
Shawn @ Nov 26th 2008 11:06AM
Yeah, it's showing the controller being charged, with the keyboard attached.
I have the Dual Charge Station, and it's pretty slick. $30 and it charges 2 dualshocks on the stand and has 2 additional usb ports for other controllers/peripherals on the side. Stand lights up when charging and fully charged, looks damn slick too
nakedatthecomp @ Nov 26th 2008 10:03PM
I got one of those around this time last year; the second time I used it, it fried one of my controllers for good - it wou;dn't charge or connect or anything, so i had to chuck it. after that, I was too scared to use the stand again, so I chucked it as well. I looked around online, and found literally dozens of forums with people posting about having the exact same problem. So.. be careful, is all I can say :/

I use my Motorola 6412 DVR from Comcast to charge my Dualshock. My computer isn't always on and my DVR is.
Mo @ Nov 26th 2008 1:08PM
Sweet!! great IDEA!!! maybe Comcast *is* good for something!!!!

Are your 'Contact Us' and 'Send as news tips' links broken? Sent you a trophy guide creation request over a week ago and a couple news tips like... the EU PS Store update yesterday that you still failed to mention and some other stuff too during the past few months. What gives?

Wow I would never guess that this is a PRO-SONY/PS3 site.......... Instead of Encouraging us to spend our money to help sony out with their new peripherals. (At least their trying). All you bloggers are doing is turning us away.
HOW DUMB ARE YOU TO WANT TO BUY this WHEN YOU CAN BUY that FOR CHEAPZ.
I understand that SONY isnt cutting your checks and you are looking out for our wallets. BUt seriously you guys should be PRO SONY. Sugar it up a bit. yea its $25 to much and the keyboard attachment isnt the greatest thing when you have a headset. but encourage us to spend a little extra to help the cause.
Ive bought 5 blu ray movies. 4 Games. and a blu ray remote in the last 10 days...... just to help the cause. SONY IS DEAD LAST THIS GEN. and thats sad to me.
and im looking into buying the ps3 headset just because.
The wii is full of useless garbage but everyone runs out to buy it.
Gambit07 @ Nov 26th 2008 1:24PM
Guys, let's just have our paychecks make it out to Sony, did you hear that, we're in last place! We all have to join forces to fight thy evil powers! Viva La Resistance! or we can be smart shoppers.
Dan Rabot @ Nov 27th 2008 5:32AM
Damn right! - We NEED to support Sony, they are a quality, reputable, customer concious company that need our support in a time where many are buying cheap rather than quality.
Even in this current financial climate, you get what you pay for. You want quality, buy Sony. you want cheap get a bloody Xbox. Or a Wii.
I've shifted most of my purchasing to Blurays, BD Games and Sony perhipherals - it's the only way we can support our favourite company through this mess.
Pay day tomorrow - will be spending plenty on Sony products.
Ferdasyn @ Nov 26th 2008 11:42AM
True, you can charge via your PC but in my experience it takes twice as long.
Dom @ Nov 26th 2008 12:25PM
Yeah, if my controller starts to die when I'm playing a game i'll grab my laptop (which is normally fully charged) and just plug my controller into it and continue to play because the USB cables provided are nowhere near long enough to do anything with. Well I probably could sit close enough to charge it but i only have a 32" tv so anything bigger would probably make me sick sitting that close.
Osiriss @ Nov 26th 2008 4:14PM
I would rather have a wristband on the keypad instead. That way I could use it like the keypad on the "Power Glove".
Bluethoot in the ear, keypad on the wrist, remote in hand, camera turned on.... I'm ready lol
CHICHO13_420 @ Nov 26th 2008 5:28PM
Ya 50 bucks for the keyboard is just plain stupid, i would rather throw in another 10 bucks and grab a game. Seriously over priced, I'm sure it'll go down in price after Xmas, cause there's gonna be some people that fall for paying that ridiculous price.
Tim @ Nov 26th 2008 8:46PM
When I need to charge my PS3 controllers, I plug them into a wee little white box next to my TV...
Why the heck don't the PS3 USB ports supply power when the machine is in standby mode?
nakedatthecomp @ Nov 26th 2008 10:06PM
because then the PS3 would still be drawing power, which kind of ruins the whole idea of "standby" mode
meatee @ Nov 27th 2008 11:42AM
I charge just about everything using the USB port on the front of my Comcast box, the port stays powered constantly and I've yet to find anything that wouldn't charge from it.
