Burnout Paradise's new island detailed
Ready to check out "Big Surf Island"? Burnout Paradise is expanding quite a bit in 2009, and that includes a brand new island to drive around. The premium DLC won't be free, but considering how much Criterion has already added to the game, we don't mind the opportunity to finally give them money for something. The island is all about crazy jumps, as this new episode of the CrashTV podcast reveals. Don't want to watch the podcast? Check out the screens in our new gallery.
[Thanks, Monik!]

It's a must buy for me. I'm going to support Criterion any way I can after the awesome free content they have given us.
GGCAN @ Nov 28th 2008 6:18PM
This game is amazing and just keeps getting better and better.
Keep up the support and great work !
why not the LS2LS7? @ Nov 28th 2008 6:28PM
I don't really mind paying for the island. However, doesn't this split up the user base? I can't play a game online against someone who doesn't have the island if I have it, can I? What happens if I drive there, won't his game freak out?
I don't really want to see the online user base split.
Livi70590 @ Nov 28th 2008 7:29PM
It'll be like you're riding with him in the city's current form. While there are people without the Island in your game, no Island for anyone. If you have the island and start an online game, he can't join.
That's what I think anyway.
Tez @ Nov 28th 2008 10:04PM
Yeah, I am worried about how it could split the fanbase; however, I think most people will be willing to pay for it after all the free stuff they've given us. I know I will.
It'd be cool if it was host-dependent, where non-island owners could check it out if the host had the expansion. I don't know how they'd do that, though; maybe the island is a forced update and you pay to unlock it offline? That'd be a smart way to do it, and Criterion has shown that they're smart developers. It would be a good way to 'hook' people on the island and get them to buy it instead of hunting for a host that had it.

"It'd be cool if it was host-dependent, where non-island owners could check it out if the host had the expansion."
I completely agree. Make no mistake, I'll be there day one with credit in hand waiting to fork over money I don't have, but I am worried about how this might fragment the online community. With a game selling itself on a seemless multiplayer world, this just seems unnatural. We'll see how it goes I guess.

Criterion is possibly the only game developer that truely understands how DLC should be marketted to the masses. Give away loads of quality stuff for free, get the gamers on-side, then charge them for proper premium content. While other game developers nickel and dime the crapest content around.
Well done Criterion, and may you make loads of money from the Island. You certainly do deserve it!

Deaddy @ Nov 29th 2008 4:04AM
I want a date and I want to know how big it is compared to Paradise City. I don't care about price, it won't be more than $15.
Raitzi @ Nov 29th 2008 6:19AM
No horse armor for Burnout! :) It will be no more than 10€ in EU. I mean with 15€ you can get full games in PSN.
PS3Lee @ Nov 29th 2008 6:54AM
Criterion have done loads to support this game and I for one will be there to support them by buying this DLC on day one. Keep up the excellent work.
Any firm date/price for this yet ?

I don't really mind paying for the island, but I am a little annoyed that this is the second time Criterion hasn't kept their promise. First, they said trophies would be retroactive. They aren't. Second, they said this would be out by the end of the year, and that it would be free. It isn't. Kudos to Criterion for making a great game, anti-kudos for breaking promises.
MR SMITH @ Nov 29th 2008 12:39PM
Will the new island bring more trophies with it?
If it does then I will definately go out and buy the game!
Muhammad-Oli @ Nov 30th 2008 12:34AM
And here's your obligatory low-rank.
MR SMITH @ Nov 30th 2008 2:35PM

Thankyou!!!
