Rumor: Gran Turismo 5 coming Christmas 2009?

There have been a few varying dates thrown around concerning the release of the full version of Gran Turismo 5. However, here comes the most specific one we've heard yet -- in an article in the Mexican financial publication El Financiero, SCEE's James Armstrong was quoted as stating the following: "the new version of Gran Turismo, which will at Christmas." Because the article is talking about the Spanish market, we are assuming the date applies to Europe only, but no other information concerning the highly-anticapted driving simulation was given.
Note that back in July, Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi told our sister site Joystiq the game "might not even roll out before 2010," so we wouldn't get our hopes up. Take a look at the original article here (or the translated version here).

Yeah, right.
PR0FT3A de V1DA @ Dec 1st 2008 4:32PM
i agree... lol. 2009 isn't likely but with that being said, GT5 is one of those games that i don't mind waiting a year for. They ran GT5:P on Above-HD format. GT5 will pawn any current game this gen
jajaes @ Dec 1st 2008 6:23PM
NO ONE CARES. It's to old fashioned. It will never top forza 2.
maxpontiac @ Dec 1st 2008 3:38PM
Christmas of next year??
Ferrari is nice and all, and I am enjoying it and the trophies, but come on already.
I am ready for the FULL GT5.
p.flynn2 @ Dec 2nd 2008 10:38AM
instead of putting out gthd and gt5p, why didnt they just focus all of their effor on a final release and have it ready for this holiday season and charge a bit more for it. say, $80.
but then again what do i know.
iamkid @ Dec 1st 2008 3:55PM
sick! hope this is at least somewhat accurate. if so, cant wait!
brampf @ Dec 1st 2008 4:00PM
Well when the winner of the GT5 Prologue Middle East Challenge asked Kazunori Yamauchi about the 2010 release date he apparently laughed and said it would be out sooner than expected.
Pehaps the 2010 date was just to kill the hype so we aren't fatigued by GT5 news 3 months before the actual release.
HarryPS3 @ Dec 1st 2008 5:29PM
You're kidding me, that's a long fucking wait. :(
SmF @ Dec 1st 2008 4:11PM
"the new version of Gran Turismo, which will at Christmas."
That doesn't mean that's GT5. It can be another prologue or update to prologue for all we know.
davebo @ Dec 1st 2008 4:13PM
I feel like if they didn't spend their time making high-poly interiors of minivans and trucks that we don't need to take on the nurburgring in the first place, we'd have a final GT5 already.
nakedatthecomp @ Dec 1st 2008 6:05PM
i totally agree with you - i like perfectionists making the games i play, but that's a bit much!
Danny F. @ Dec 1st 2008 4:37PM
I understand that GT is as close to racing that any game could be possibly come close to, but does it really take that long to make such a game thats just racing and cars??
I never liked any of the GT series game (find them slow paced and somewhat confusing) call me a bum but I always was more into the NFS and Burnout series.
Game_playa @ Dec 1st 2008 4:40PM
You like bums?
I'm form the U.S but I still know what that means..... nasty...
HAAS599 @ Dec 1st 2008 4:51PM
(find them slow paced and somewhat confusing)
Maybe you should learn how to drive, and how is crossing the finish line before any other car confusing? Burnout even teaches you that!
Burnout is a great game, but just understand there is a lot more to driving than holding down the gas pedal as long as you can before you crash.
Danny F. @ Dec 1st 2008 5:30PM
Yeah um, I drive a 2009 Maxima guy so how about getting back to me with a more logical response then sounding like some smartass.
When I play a game I want to be able to jump into the action if it calls for it. Prolouge was such a annoying game that I found myself getting bored within the first 20 mins, the same with the past GT games.
If thats your thing that kudos to you, all I stated was I never found it fun, that was MY opinion. You don't like it then go b*tch to someone else. Good day;)
Phil @ Dec 1st 2008 5:05PM
NFS and Burnout demonstrate the sense of speed better... however, if you properly relax and drive a normal car it feels quite slow compared to driving like a prat...
to each their own though, I still prefer Race 07 to GT5P, but that's me...
lennygundam14 @ Dec 1st 2008 5:15PM
"I understand that GT is as close to racing that any game could be possibly come close to, but does it really take that long to make such a game thats just racing and cars??"
Note: It takes 6 months to build a car in GT5, compared to the GT1 which took 1 day to make a car, and GT3/4 which took about 30 days to make a car.
http://www.joystiq.com/2007/07/03/yamauchi-reveals-gt5-details-to-car-and-driver/
(please note article is about 1 1/2 years old. a lot of things have changed since then except for amount of work to make a car in GT5)
Thats what you call detail. Never, EVER compare GT5 to other sim offerings in the market.
mr_bambino_dent @ Dec 1st 2008 5:23PM
I agree with you.
I just like to watch its trailers for the HD graphics , that's it.
But it's slow paced and not that fun like burnout (which I think one of the greatest racing games ever)
Danny F. @ Dec 1st 2008 5:25PM
@HAAS599
Um yeah I drive a 2009 Maxima soo how about you get back to me with a more sound response then sounding like an douche guy?
When I play a racing game Im in it for the action and fun of it. GT is tooo realistic and slow for my taste and was never into it all. Thats all I meant, if you like it then cool for you enjoy! But I was stating my opinion is all you , jeeez talk about sensitive...
Danny F. @ Dec 1st 2008 5:33PM
Double posted somehow as the first went through when it never stated that it did. Damn comment system :-\
Jerses @ Dec 1st 2008 5:49PM
@lennygundam14. 6 months to build a car!!!!??? how many devs do the have? like 2? where is the profit in making such a game!?
Detail...let see, when you crash into another car it only bumps (and makes a bump sound) but the screen doesnt shake or hear any metal sound ( or plastic whatever).
No car damage...not even the enviroment gets damage!!! nor the people in the background reacts to it.
The cars look really great but the backgrounds lack of detail making the car look out of place. In GT5P the main menu background looks real but in the race mode they really need to add more. and im not asking too much, you can see other driving games like grid that they even added the drivers head movement when you crash of in a curve.
GT5P is an expensive demo but i dont think they are going to change does "detail" in the final version.
Dont get me wrong i love GT but i find it hard to belive its the real driving experience...even with the expensive logitech wheel.
wow... this is the second time in a week i hear about videogames from a Mexican newspaper... Weird.
Hotrod @ Dec 1st 2008 5:57PM
I drive a 2007 6-Speed RX-8. What does that have to do with the article? Absolutely nothing.
Danny F. @ Dec 1st 2008 6:40PM
@hotrod
Nice, my brother used to own the 2004 RX-8, and yes it has absolutely nothing to do with the article, just getting back at haas for trying to get at me is all :V)
iamkid @ Dec 1st 2008 11:57PM
danny, the reason that it takes so long is the ammount of effort that goes into every single vehicle. first, they have to create the visual aspect, with very precise detail. next comes the sound. they study the sound of each car in real life(if the car exists) and create different sounds for every single angle of the car. if youre driving in first person, itll be a different sound than when the camera is above the car, and different than when looking back on the car. next they have to do the most important part, the physics. this also varies with every single car, again, trying to make it as close to the real life car as possible. dont forget that when you change the settings of the car, you need to make sure the physics respond accurately to those changes as well. point is, these cars take a long time to make, like others have pointed out.
Danny F. @ Dec 1st 2008 5:31PM
@lennygundam14
I'll give my props to the developers for being more realistic then any other developer out there. For car fanatics like my brother this game is gods gift. But for some its just not there thing guy. Besides its a car sim no matter how you see it so I'm pretty sure its safe to compare it to other racing sims out there k ;-)
Oh and Idk about 6 months to create a car for in-game, I mean it takes about 4 months to have a car ordered and built from scratch alone. But 6 months to create a digital likeness? Idk what but seems like somethings not right or its just that slow of a process.
Dr. Strangepork @ Dec 1st 2008 5:47PM
I wouldn't mind the wait as much if GT4 ran on my PS3.
This seems like a looooog wait for just more cars and tracks than found in GT5:P. Somebody please tell me there will be some mind-blowing features to go along with this.
pat1202003 @ Dec 1st 2008 6:21PM
Sure it's coming out and GT Moblie for the PSP too.Yeah yea. I'll believe it when I see it in stores.
Cody @ Dec 1st 2008 6:49PM
I hope it's sooner its a great looking game but it needs more cars and more car brands like Toyota, Porsche, etc.
epvirtual @ Dec 1st 2008 7:07PM
wow! can this be for real? looking forward for this GT5. if there's a miracle, we can achieve this when we believe . nobody can tell. lets just wait and see!
gillyy0 @ Dec 1st 2008 8:07PM
Please come out already.
Bobby @ Dec 3rd 2008 5:50PM
I will never like racing games no matter how real they look, only burnout and I don't even like it that much.
Twinturbo120 @ Dec 1st 2008 9:54PM
meh when it comes out its comes out
hpdedriver @ Dec 1st 2008 11:39PM
Sheesh, perfectionists aren't they? Just to hold me over, I really want a GT5P patch that will allow private online races with my friends. The current online multiplayer interface sucks.
RemzRR @ Dec 2nd 2008 4:04AM
Keep in mind the article that states the time it takes to complete one car states that "For GT5, one car is one man's work for 180 days". So if there is a team of people split up into groups for different manufacturers or specific cars then that time should be halved. That statement should be taken as exaggerated in being that it would take about 3 years to add 10 more cars. ;)
jbateman91 @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:06PM
El financiero? Really?
Jeffrey @ Dec 3rd 2008 6:48AM
Also it is being renamed Gran Turismo 5 Duke Nukem Edition.
Still when i t comes out I bet it will be mindblowing, (I have pre-ordered it already)
