Psyclone TouchCharge for the PS3 tested

Not liking the clutter of USB cables used to charge your controllers in front of your PS3? Psyclone has a more elegant solution for you -- their TouchCharge kit allows you to charge two DualShock 3/SIXAXIS controllers on a contact-based charge pad via one AC adapter.
Unlike the version Psyclone offers for the Xbox 360 and the Wii, no third-party battery is required as the pad is able to charge the battery inside the official controllers. An added bonus is that at $49.99, the kit will cost $20 less than the 360 version. Gizmodo took the peripheral for a spin and gave it a thumbs-up.
Best Buy has the TouchCharge Kit for sale, but it is currently backordered.

I wonder if charging your controller this way causes any damage to the battery.......
Dartmerc @ Dec 1st 2008 5:37PM
No, as long as the voltage is the same - which assumably it would be - there is no chance of harm.
This is a pretty cool item though, I could keep this on the coffee table beside my chair of choice and charge my controller simply by putting it down between sessions. hmm..

That's pretty damn cool!

I have the Nyko charging base, which also doesn't use cables (just drop the charger in the slot). It's FAR cheaper. What's the advantage of this one? Anything?

Other then being lazy and just setting the controller on the pad is really it. What I wonder is if water hits the pad will I live to see tomorrow?? o_O?
Gaucho @ Dec 1st 2008 11:43AM
I'll stick with the USB cord and spare myself the 3 different types of cancer you get from just being around that thing for prolonged periods of time.
Think Adrian @ Dec 1st 2008 1:21PM
yeah, these pads for recharging aren't tested for radiation and other types of unheallthy interferance. Heck, we still don't know how mobile phones, together with out micro-wave ovens and wireless networks affect our lives.
Jake @ Dec 1st 2008 12:33PM
cool gadget but you can't use the controllers when you use this pad
ryan @ Dec 1st 2008 2:02PM
And that's a pretty damn cool feature too for the USB!
Gambit07 @ Dec 1st 2008 12:57PM
So you have to charge the pad, in order to charge your controller? am I getting this right? I just don't see the point of this thing.
Brian @ Dec 1st 2008 1:10PM
"...allows you to charge two DualShock 3/SIXAXIS controllers on a contact-based charge pad via one AC adapter." The pad plugs into the wall.
Hotrod @ Dec 1st 2008 1:04PM
Since this thing only has room for one controller, it's pointless. If it had room for 4 then it would make sense.
Gamoc @ Dec 1st 2008 1:53PM
It says it can charge two controllers at a time.
glitched @ Dec 1st 2008 3:17PM
hmm this might be usefull for charging other devices that have mini usb charge ports... I wonder if it would be ok?
Woody @ Dec 1st 2008 7:05PM
Sweet! Too bad I just bought the Energizer charging dock for $30. It's good looking at least.
fiziks @ Dec 1st 2008 7:38PM
nobody's gonna give props to Tesla for this? I for one give props to 'em 'cause without him we wouldn't have this..
JakeDunn @ Dec 2nd 2008 4:25AM
Want it!!
