PS3 now fully supported by BBC iPlayer
We've been waiting for native iPlayer support on our PS3 since a cunning coder created their own workaround site back in April. Finally our wait is over and PS3 everywhere (well, in the UK at least) can enjoy the BBC's latest offerings through their PS3s. Simply head on over to the official website and you will be shown the new, specially made PS3 version (also accessible from your PC, if you so wish). Now catching up with Merlin, Nevermind the Buzzcocks and Heroes has never been easier.

Hyams @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:58PM
This is sweet. I love the iPlayer, and being able to watch Never Mind the Buzzcocks on my tv rather than my laptop will be awesome.

You mis-spelt that first one. Its M-E-R-L-I-N.
Sorry, I'm a bit like I have OCD at times.

Great news. The unofficial version was great but had some bugs.
Incidentally I checked the Wii version out just this morning and it has the same interface as the above picture.

i was excited about this but the quality is poor
i only have a 23 inch screen, and im pretty sure thats small for the average ps3 owner.
they have BBC HD channel, why cant they stream it to the ps3, i have a capable connection
nathan-dts @ Dec 2nd 2008 4:10PM
I'm glad they did this. I frequently watch things on the iplayer using the unofficial version.

So how does this new 2.53 firmware fullscreen flash support work. On the new iPlayer page there is just a note saying zoom in, but no way that I can see to go into fullscreen mode.
Actually how does the fullscreen flash support work on the PS3 on any flash video site? Am I missing the obvious?
Christian @ Dec 3rd 2008 5:52AM
They probably wrote this PS3 version before they knew about the fullscreen support. Now that the PS3 supports fullscreen I am sure they will add such a button at some point.
reakt @ Dec 2nd 2008 6:03PM
It's very handy but how do I get it in full screen. I know I can click R3 and then play about with R2, L2 to zoom to exactly the right proportion. After all that, the mouse pointer is still overlayed on top of the video. Where's the full screen button on the player?
Devil240Z @ Dec 3rd 2008 2:00AM
only in UK? weaksauce. I want top gear. New ones! not the out dated stuff we get on BBCA.
oh well new season premiers on the 8th i think.
me want topgear...
Mike @ Dec 3rd 2008 4:41AM
This is cool. Well done the beeb
Seminole @ Dec 3rd 2008 3:12PM
Does it have Top Gear?
P @ Dec 3rd 2008 5:44PM
odd, doesnt appear to work for me at the moment. I click on the show i want, then the iplayer play button, but nothing happens and the # symbol pops into the url but obviously something else should be kicking in in the background at that time but it isnt for me.
Im patched to current version but its not playing ball for me sadly. Seems that all the times i find a good use for the web browser within the PS3 ends up not working, most being flash based and doesnt particularly suprise me, but so far ive yet to really find a use for it, as my PC and PS3 are together so im not going to browse the web on a PS3 but when using the PC it'd handy having another output to glance up at.

Has anyone found an easy way of getting rid of the cursor from the middle of the screen?
I'm currently pushing the cursor out of view with the analogue stick, but it can shove the picture as well over when viewing full screen. Ideally I want to use the blu-ray remote and you can't get rid of the cursor at all when you use it.

Radio doesn't work and it's about time the BBC broadened access and introduced multiple audio formats instead of plodding along with just one really crap one i.e RM.
