SingStore finally getting updated, PS2 disc swapping by Xmas

Oh, yeah. SingStar. Looks like SCEA may not have forgotten about that game either. It's easy to lose faith when games like Rock Band, Guitar Hero and even Karaoke Revolution, offer regular updates -- but no new news gets released about Sony's music game. According to a new post on the PlayStation.blog, US fans of the singing game can look forward to over 60 songs to be released over "the next few months." (Not too specific, we know.) Hopefully, this is a sign that regular content will start hitting the SingStore. You can only sing Buddy Holly for so long before you want some new music to play with.

In other SingStar news, it looks like the game will be patched to support PS2 disc swapping. Let's say you have SingStar 90s (PS2). Just boot up your PS3 SingStar. When you hit Select on the Song Select screen, you'll be able to insert the PS2 disc into your system. Voila! You have access to all the content of SingStar 90s. This feature will work on any PS3 system (even those without backwards compatibility). The patch will be available by Christmas.

If its THAT easy why dont they just patch the PS3 system as a whole to offer BC. I guess Sony doesn't have the confidence in their own games to believe people wiil still buy state of art HD games as long as they can keep on playing the classics.

If I was that into the classics I would not have bought the PS3 and the PS2 would not be on the small tv for the kids!!

That's because it isn't emulating the PS2. It's just adding the capability for the PS3 version of Singstar to load the songs from the PS2 games. There is a huge difference.

No it is because SONY Japan doesn't want ps3 to be backward compatible yet. They want to sell more ps2's still. I will bet next year we will see all systems software backwards compatible.

The old singstar probably has the same structure. Although the ps3s without bc can't play ps2 games, it can still read them as dvd data discs. thus, being able to retrieve the song information from the disc.

I'd really like to know the answer to this, too. My kids would LOVE SingStar Disney, but so far that will be released only in Europe. I'd really like to be able to play those songs with SingStar PS3.

I do know that the PS3's with backwards compatability (like my 60GB) ARE region locked for PS2 games. So, I would not expect a PAL SingStar Disney (i.e. UK region) to work.

But, since this feature will supposedly work even on systems without any PS2 compatability, maybe it would ignore the region lock in this case????

SingStore US actually updating? I'll believe it when I see it... In the PS Blog post, one of the few songs they mentioned was a song that was available at launch ("Let's Dance"). And speaking of, I think that might be the entire list of songs released this season. lol. Dear Europeans, I know you get the raw end of the deal in most circumstances, and I do feel bad about that, but still, at least you actually have a decent SingStore.

Why the hell are the SingStar games delayed for the US anyway? I thought it was because they wanted time to prepare for it to be on par with the EU titles, but they never are. I've been a SingStar fan since it came out (which was recent compared to its initial EU release), and I'm feeling disappointed, especially since Rock Band gives great offerings every week.

I think its actually quite funny that PS3 owners have forked out so much cash on a huge fucking dud. Where is the sense in that, esp. when you can go out and play a majority of the games available on a system that costs half, and more often than not, performs better in a variety of areas.
Its too late in the game for Sony to make any sort of huge comeback in sales. With that i'll bet AAA titles developed in house will be so few and far between (like it isnt already), that most of you will wake up and realise that the huge wad of cash you blew on this turd will be such a heartbraking waste.

what games on the 360 have 1080p resolution? you can say it doesnt matter, and i'd agree with you; if i wasnt stuck with a bonified POS like a 360 that can only produce 2nd best resolution quality. also, i am curious, how much a month does a person have to pay for the online gamming with a 360? when i heard PS3 allows free online access, i felt a little bit con'd. i do hear the blu-ray...i mean HD-DVD(that cost me $299 xtra as an add-on) player in the sytem looks great(on the few that worked. mine does work, on the occassion) but at least i have the option to watch those very few to choose from- oh so great HD-DVD's that produce mind boggling picture quality at 720p. i dont have an HDMI xbox, just like some 15 million of us. i own a 360, and i regret it. it isnt capable of anything that the ps3 can do. you can argue symantics about game selection, and price; but you get what u pay for. but u cant despute that a blu-ray player, free ps network access, higher resolution, data card readers(on the original models), sixaxxis controlers, and interchangable hardrives would have to be worth more than $200. so, for cheapskates like me, that are always try'n to save a buck, dont spare any expense when deciding between a PS3 or a 360. My 360 is so shitty, i almost want to take a dump on it, put it outside in my backyard, and check on it in 2 years to see if my shit has cleansed its shittyness....i'm just say'n, i dont think u know what ur talking about.

hahahaha, gary do you even realize that ps3 outsold 360 this year? get out of your snowglobe dude, ps3 has sold 17 m units and 360 has sold 25m thats pretty sweet considering 360 has been out a 3 years and ps3 has been out for 2? now ps3 has way more AAA exclusives pumping out and with god of war 3, grand turismo 5, heavy rain, uncharted 2 , MAG etc. etc. next year its a whole lot of the same, ps3 will surpass 360s sales next year for sure, your foolish if you believe otherwise.

B/c it's not a huge fucking dud. I've had no problems with the ps3 and it offers everything I could hope for WITHOUT having to pay for my online gaming needs (plus where else would I play MGS4/MGO/Socom?). And I get to enjoy movies on my HDTV if I want to.

Now, the 360 is a huge fucking, unnecessary dud. My friend's had to send in his 360 5x over already. I've been fortunate to have avoided that issue, and I only have it around for 360 exclusives, which are definitely few and far between. It's inexcusable that something that has a 10% failure rate is still even on the market. If cars were that way, that sort of company would've gone out of business in a heartbeat.

To top it off, any multi-plat games are inherently held back in terms of scope b/c of the last-gen DVD-9 format.

If you're the person who can't afford the 360 or is simply unwilling to, then don't go pissing all over the ps3. It's called, prerogative.

I agree with others about seeing is believing. I held off on getting Vol 2 because I only like a few songs on that tracklist. So, with my luck, if I end up buying Vol 2, then later on those freaking songs will be available in the SingStore.
And I peruse the SingStar Online community at other people's videos and I envy the Europeans for having a lot more songs to choose from. Got some Eminem in their store for rap, and the US SingStore has the Spice Girls as a rap choice.........good grief. So disappointing SCEA doesn't update the US store frequently, especially with Lips out on the Xbox, I guessed that would've pushed up the cycle of updates, but it hasn't.
