Software sales data: UK gamers resist Resistance 2
According to Gamesindustry.biz, gamers in the UK are not buying into the whole Resistance 2 thing. It debuted on the British top ten charts in last place. The only other shooter on the charts, Call of Duty: World at War, reigns atop at number one.
Gamesindustry.biz notes that R2's debut sales only accounts for two-thirds that of the original Resistance: Fall of Man's debut numbers. While the site doesn't give out specific figures, sales for R2 probably don't sound as bad as it's made out to be. The first Resistance was a launch title and was the first PS3 title to sell over a million copies. When you think of it that way, the original has some advantages towards sales and some tough shoes to fill.
Whatever is keeping the Brits at bay, we just hope it's not because the game is now set in cowboyland instead of her majesty's empire. Seriously though, R2 is a vastly improved title over the first, so don't miss out on it.

Wanna know why R2 is not selling?
It's because R2 SUCKS. I'm being brutally honest here
CircleOfFire @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:16AM
Try it's not selling because the distributor of the games that deals with most of the high street retailers went bust recently.
Dan Rabot @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:36AM
Damn right, the first one was aweful, R2 needs to be whole different game to be any good.
Dan Rabot @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:47AM
I mean you are damn right!
It doesn't matter if the distributor is gone bust over here, this game is in all shops, on the shelves, with no-one buying it because it's piss poor.
We just have more taste over here and don't fall for marketing bull so easy.
It's as poor as R1.
redice141 @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:12AM
More taste over there? That's why you guys drink tea and still wear ruffled shirts. Give me a break.
Muhammad-Oli @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:29AM
redice141: I am not from England but your knowledge of the country is laughable. What an idiot you must be.
shadowme540 @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:12AM
i completely agree. the story feels empty and they totally messed up the online aspect. RFOM 1 is the jewel of this franchise. two thumbs down for R2.
lobotomies4free @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:05AM
Americans are easily pleased
ryan @ Dec 2nd 2008 10:05AM
"Americans are easily pleased" ?
Then I can say the same thing about the UK. CoD:WaW? Easily pleased much over there ol' chap?
Hife @ Dec 2nd 2008 10:36AM
God, it's always something. If you euro-douches want piss people off with ignorant generalizations, how about you just go argue with some xbots or something.
jaferris @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:22PM
r2 is an amazing game
own most recent releases
lf4
cod5

----
resistance 2 is only one spending time playing
it amazing
dont beleive me rent it
Paulmichael @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:15PM
LOL, "don't fall for marketing bull so easy," as CoD: WaW is listed as number one... Please, that game is the epitome of marketing hype on a mediocre game.
-slycooper_rocker- (lorddshadow the amazing) psn: shahanasalam @ Dec 2nd 2008 5:54PM
i like cod:waw! the russian levels put a genuine smile on my face and nazi zombie mode is awesome! and co-op campaign is fun. resistance 2 was pretty good but the single player left me feeling...empty. the co-op campaign is insanely fun though.
Muhammad-Oli @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:15AM
Debuting within the top ten hardly means it isn't selling. Hell, getting into the top ten this time of year is quite a feat!
jackson @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:20AM
Although I like both, and R2 looks and plays a lot better, I must admit, I enjoyed the first version better. But count me in for another sequal anyway!
Eric E @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:18AM
I just finished playing the first for the first time in october.
I just Started the 2nd last night (about 1/3 through).
I enjoyed the first better.
*I liked keeping my guns and
*the health system,
*i liked level design better,
*original enemies and bosses,
*control layout,
*You could see,
*the story telling(so far).
This is better death animations, improved textures, more dynamic lighting. but the game is lacking so far.
I think they had more time to plan and design R1.
(FYI i don't play online multiplayer)
Mortimi @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:29AM
Erik E...the control layout is completely customisable, I've got mine laid out the same as my COD setup.
I do agree with some of your comments tho and did find R2 a bit lacking in the early levels, but some of the later levels like Chicago are incredible! I'm totally hooked now!
Eric E @ Dec 4th 2008 3:48PM
i couldn't customize it exactly like i wanted it. But overnight i've had to restart 3 seperate times b/c of glitches (like my partner falling off the N. Tower elevator so when i got the top the cutscene just froze, or him getting stuck in a wall and he was supposed to open the door. Or elevator going up w/o me and leaving me behind)
*Not to mention random body parts floating in the air.
*Lamps having seizures half stuck in walls
*Not being able to pick up guns stuck halfway into things.
*Stepping on an ammo crate and having it throw me in the air.
Insomniac designs a good game, But must have the worst programmers/developers/testers. Or Sony is on them to release ASAP in which case i apologize.
matt @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:28AM
I have yet to play the sequel, and I do want to play it and will be able to when I go home for christmas, as my brother already has it (I'm strapped for cash, get off my back). But I must admit, being british, the first game seemed so much more interesting specifically because of the environments. I've actually been to some of the places in the first game.
If I had the money I would have bought the second by now, if only to show that PS3 games are worth making, and I do want to play it right now in my spare time than wait any longer for it.
ok, wall of text over.
Dan Bolas @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:29AM
In my views, as a 'Brit' the simple option is the fact i am getting the game as a gift for Christmas. With so many flag ship titles as well as multi platform ones available, its a ot of money to be spending. If i don't have to buy a couple, i don't mind waiting two or three weeks. Same applies to Mirrors Edge and Tomb Raider
Newman @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:30AM
I guess i will have to put my fanboy hat on here. The game had only been out one day, so getting ranked at all is impressive. Wait to the end of this week, so it can have a full week of sales and see how it does then. Plus the distribution problems with EUK.
shaun @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:33AM
I'm in the UK and I am loving R2, it is immense
TroubleMaker @ Dec 2nd 2008 10:55AM
same here i love r2
retrocausal @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:34AM
i think one major reason is finding it anywhere! I've been into game, gamestation and even tesco, asda, and toys r us - no copies at all, not even a space on the shelf for where copies WOULD be if it had sold out - so perhaps there is a supply issue or that retrailers dont realise it should be on the shelves. The recent VAT change has caused retailers a lot of problems and that has possibly led to some stocking issues. who knows. but i want to play it, and I cant find a copy. and i live in a fairly big city!
ftrunks @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:37AM
Yeah personally find it hard it believe knowing all my friends have bought the game, and some who are going to be getting it soon.
Let's wait a week at least shall we?
Dan Rabot @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:40AM
I might rent it, but I doubt it. They've got it at Gamestation in Leamington Spa know that, and play.com had it last time I looked.
CaptnSpaulding @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:42AM
The beta was awful, hence what put me off the game - and also wasn't fussed on the first one.
Another bargain bin sale for me I think. Paid £5 for R1, might go to £8 for this one.
The_Icon @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:44AM
The reason I am not into Resistance franchise is:
1: Feels very generic shooter with lots of enemies and all, with no proper narrative.
2: Its sci-fi (I dig sci-fi), but I am more into realistic shooters like COD.
3: Bioshock - Yep...after that game....my expectations have been raised much higher.
DETH-DEFIANCE @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:54AM
Will if it helps i ordered mine off amazon two days ago, should get it in about an hour.
DeathroW @ Dec 2nd 2008 7:56AM
Um, i thought PS3fanboy would be smart enough to realise the game when those sales figures were taken HAD ONLY BEEN OUT FOR A DAY.
It is now currently at 6th place after being out over 3 days.
rgoff31 @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:01AM
Too many good games and a tight economy.
Stalin @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:03AM
i doubt i'll be getting it. i still have Valkyria and Fallout 3 to finish. plus... i'm not a huge FPS fan. i didn't even finish the first game.
I.AM.IRON.MAN @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:05AM
Haven't bought this yet because i'm getting it for christmas.
It's worth playing just for the solid local co-op mode. i loved playing the first one with my real friends!
Also, my house is built on the site of the 'Cheshire' stages featured in the first game. It was the biggest USAF base outside of the USA... shooting aliens in the secret tunnels that really excist in your own backyard is cool!
dr tobias funke @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:22AM
Not meaning to burst your bubble, but the coop on this one is a lot different than on the first one...the coop are just separate missions with the three classes and the levels are really really hard if there's only two people playing, you need to go online with at least 4 people to win most of the levels. This was a big disappointment to me and my wife who played through the first one three times (now on Veterans mode...ridiculous) but can't do that with this. The multiplayer is fun, but I miss me some real coop
I.AM.IRON.MAN @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:52AM
Oh No!
Thanks for the heads up Dr T.
Can i just say, do you know how lucky you are?
My wifes PS3 adventure starts and ends with super rub a dub! lol.
seedaripper1973 @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:08AM
well im a 'brit' too, and i thoroughly enjoyed the first game ( myself and my flat mate went out a couple of days ago and got 2 copies on R2 to play in co-op) I'm just going through the single player now...and it is f*&%king ace! (old school terms FTW!1!)
needless to say ALOT of my friends are now getting the game as well (co-op is mint!)
it will sell....
asharab @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:20AM
well i live in london and imported it from the US if R2 is not selling it's because of the reason i imported since why should the uk wait a whole month for the game to come out and everyone has spent there savings before christmas savings on cod5 i believe that if it came out on the same day of US it would have done very good but as many say parents are most likely to be purchasing this for christmas which has a time
ps the economy is tight atm
drdre74 @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:33AM
I played the beta and I couldn't get into the game. Just didnt pull me in like killzone 2 beta or CoD.
Mortimi @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:44AM
I'm in the UK and I've got R2. It's a great game with a much improved storyline over R1. I'm really getting into it and the online is fantastic with zero lag so far (even on the 60 player matches!). It's pulled me away for COD WAW for the indefinate future or at least until Treyarch/Activision can fix the dreadful online gaming! Loads of my mates have or are getting R2 as well cos they are fed up with COD online.
leatherface @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:18AM
well said buddy. i love this game, the 8 player co-op is really addicting. see you guys online.
Riseer @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:51AM
Buncha morons..wth do you pick up Cod waw and not Resistance 2... First off Resistance 2 does everything right that the first one didn't.The 8 player co-op is worth the price alone.WTH is wrong with yall brits..like the guy said above wth do yall drink tea with crackers...I don't understand i hate WWII games now time has changed people.
Chainblast @ Dec 2nd 2008 8:52AM
More taste? Have you even looked at the sales charts? How is Need for Speed: Undercover or Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training more tasteful? Say what you will about R2, but judging from the titles on that list, people in the UK have absolutely no taste.
Maverick Saturn @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:04AM
Why, cos we're not FPS and Arnold 'one man army' type story fanatics? Its best you just stay quiet ¬_¬ You're not making sense.
Popfrogs @ Dec 2nd 2008 10:35AM
"Why, cos we're not FPS and Arnold 'one man army' type story fanatics?"
COD:WaW at number one on the UK charts says hi.
rmjohnson124 @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:05AM
R2 is a decent enough game....when it works. The biggest problem is that their network is unstable and rather than fix it, they call it a "client-based" issue despite the hardcore FACT that NO other game has ANY problems online...when I am playing the game and the game stops but the rest of MY network is still fully operational, that means it MUST be Insomniac's issue. They just don't want to take the time to fix the problem...Their forum is full of moderators that appear to not understand how computers and networks function so when you request "help," they are not capable of providing it.
Joe @ Dec 2nd 2008 12:29PM
You haven't seen a improvement in the server's performance this past week or two? Both single and split screen have been a lot better.
Maverick Saturn @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:05AM
I popped into Gamestation today on the way home from Uni, they had none yet, so I'm guessing thats the reason, otherwise I would have bought a copy today.
Its not because we don't like it, when the retailers actually have more to sell to people, then we can buy more.
Corbula @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:12AM
Personally, im not buying it just yet because im getting it for christmas. Maybe when we get a bit closer sales will pick up.
Ferdasyn @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:36AM
The way things are just now I haven't bought a new game in ages.
Recently I've wanted R2, Dead Space, Bioshock and Call of Duty: WAW just to name a few, and at £40 each do they really expect us to be buying every single one?
kentuckyfried @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:36AM
Buy Dead Space at least. That, you won't regret. ;)
