The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf coming to PS3
CD Projekt RED has announced today that The Witcher is headed to consoles. The game will be published by Atari in the US and most of Europe, with CD Projekt filling in the gaps. Originally released on the PC, The Witcher, is being completely remade to be "the ultimate console RPG." A lofty goal, certainly. The console version will feature the same story as its PC brother, but will have improved graphics, an improved combat system and a new subtitle: Rise Of The White Wolf.
We've heard good things about The Witcher and any new additions to the PS3's RPG lineup are warmly welcomed. We can expect to see this title on shelves during the Fall of 2009.

Enjoyed this on the PC, will be interesting how they map the controls.
LightAce @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:26PM
"the ultimate console RPG." I have never heard of it even being on the pc. Although trailer looked pretty good
chesteria @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:44PM
I would have to agree, it is a fantastic game and highly recommended.
It wasn't hyped up at all, I literally found it by googling "new RPGs for PC".
either way, I will be picking this up day 1.
The_Panman @ Dec 2nd 2008 9:48PM
I liked it on the PC and never got around to finishing it, the books are great, make sure to pick up The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski before you play the game, he came up with the original idea. I will probably pick this title up regardless for another play through with enchanced graphics. Recommended to all RPG fans...

So, is this like Oblivion?
ryan @ Dec 2nd 2008 10:34PM
It's like an Adult Fable with elements of Oblivion.
-slycooper_rocker- (lorddshadow the amazing) psn: shahanasalam @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:57PM
fable was already adult so... ?
DV8ing1 @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:31AM
Dude if you thought fable was for adults, then this my friend is for you dead great great grandfather... Fable should not have been rated mature. If they only took out the odd capitation and the ability to have wives it would have been teen for sure.
Witcher has probably the most mature (ans interesting plot points) story I've ever seen in a videogame.
HernanG @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:03PM
Yeah! Totally looking forward to this game.
I love Fable2, TESIV: Oblivion and Fallout 3 and im definitely buying this game.
I see the PC game was gorgeous and I hope they make a good job in the translation of this game, especially on the PS3 version.
microshocky @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:24PM
...Improved graphics..? I know the PS3 is powerful and all but can it really beat the pc in that field?
LooM @ Dec 8th 2008 9:24AM
surely it will - the graphics engine of the pc witcher version wasn't highly optimized.. Nor had it anything amazing - the graphics were average at best.
The game is good though.
I reckon it'll look good with some dynamic light, shadow etc.. and of course revamped controls will make this game alot more worthwile (can't exactly say I enjoyed the pc controls)
Smitty @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:28PM
This was a phenomenal game on PC. I really hope they keep the 'adult' elements intact for the console version.
As long as the final version isn't handicapped by the control scheme, this should do very well.
kamiboy @ Dec 4th 2008 2:26PM
If my long years as a gamer has tought me anything then it is this, a PC developer cannot create the ultimate console anything.
wocyob @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:14AM
what about the xbox?
kentuckyfried @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:17AM
NO.
j/p =D
Of course it's coming to Xbox. It's origins are on the PC, they'd have to be stupid not to port it to the 360.
rmjohnson124 @ Dec 3rd 2008 8:46AM
xbox? its still a piece of junk....

You forgot to mention a Fuck awful combat system that was so boring i fell asleep while playing.
Dan Rabot @ Dec 3rd 2008 6:28AM
I've fallen asleap while playing many games, not because they're bad, just because I have a habit of playing late into the night / early morning, till I fall asleep.
I've falled asleap playing COD! Now that's by no means a boring cobat system.
doesn't the post say it will have a new combat system?
Barit @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:13AM
The Witcher is really nice but why Atari ... why f!%"ing Atari .. i hate this Game Publisher. All thier games in the past years sucks really hard. Boiling Point a disaster, Matrix Path of Neo a shame, Alone in the Dark 4 a bug fest, Legendary crappyst Egoshooter in history and so on. Atari will ruined this game, thats for sure.
chesteria @ Dec 3rd 2008 9:28AM
They already put it out and it did quite well, so unless they are completely redoing the game without the input of the developers, they cant ruin it.
Haohmaru @ Dec 3rd 2008 9:57AM
I never got around to finishing the PC version and I no longer have the disc, so this is good news. It's a good, solid RPG and it kind of surprises me that some of you are saying you've never even heard of it. The critics were raving about this game last year.
Spallit @ Dec 3rd 2008 10:06AM
The combat system made this game fun. Very deep, and required thought and tactics. You actually have to use your potions in combat, unlike many other RPG's where it was "optional". The story provided me with more than sufficient motivation to continue playing the game.
matt @ Dec 3rd 2008 1:03PM
have the pc version, didn't get that far due to very bad loading times, hope ps3 version doesn't have it
Fane @ Dec 3rd 2008 7:48PM
They offered a free upgrade which supposedly fixes many of the technical problems and includes re-done VO, etc.
I can't recommend it (or not), because I don't game on PC.
aris @ Dec 7th 2008 4:22PM
xaxaxa.....better graphics with atari??
like alone in the dark or legendary??xaxaxa

I had this game on PC before we switched to Mac, and I am not willing to run Win on a Mac, so I only made it partly through the second chapter (roughly 2/5 of the game from what I hear). The story is excellent, the combat is excellent. Some will be disappointed it is not free range like Oblivion. You play one character through his set story, broken into 5 chapters if I remember right. But the way you play and choices you make affect MANY things in many obvious and subtle ways. I ama huge RPG fan, and this was my favorite game ever. Been drooling since I heard it was coming to PS3 so I can finish it. Seriously, go to the website and read the awards and forums before judging this game. It has been out for about 2 years now, so there is tons of info on it.
