Speaking in an interview with Japan's Weekly Famitsu (which is courteously translated by
1UP), the
Dissidia dev team has spoken out about the possible inclusion of
Final Fantasy XII and
XIII characters making their way into the game. Creative producer Tetsuya Nomura replied to the mag when drilled on those sought after games, but Noms had some disappointing news to reveal: "One idea we had was to include an
FFXIII character, but having one debut in
Dissidia would lock down the image of his or her skills and so forth, perhaps affecting
FFXIII in the process. As a result, we couldn't get permission."
That's rather understandable. But wait; what about
FFXII? Well, Nomura was a little more mysterious in his answer for this one: "As for
FFXII, just stay tuned for now (laughs)." Is he laughing because we're totally not going to see a character from the game? Or, is he laughing because we're definitely going to see one? Commence dramatic progressive argument in our comments section!

That actually makes sense as to why XIII is not included. Considering Tidus made a switch to Blonde (from brown) hair late in X's development, that would suck to see major differences in character design.

Except add Balthier.
Vaan was the only character in the entire game who was annoying. The peppy, perky girl was somehow not annoying. The 13-year-old boy was not annoying. The feminine, shirtless mallrat? There's no way that CAN'T be annoying.

Balthier would be fine, too. The only reason I didn't include him is because he's already been given one Squenix PSP guest spot in Final Fantasy Tactics - which, incidentally, I've just started playing.
On THAT note, it would be awesome to see Ramza or maybe Delita given a spot on Dissidia's roster, versus the FFT final boss whose identity I won't spoil despite the game's age. ;P

Its funny you mention Balthier having no chance because of a cameo in FFT on PSP because my guess for an FFXII would be Gabranth.. aka a Judge.
I say this for 2 reasons. First, it would cover two FF bases at once, FFT and FFXII. Secondly, it would offer a Chaos parallel to FFXI's Cosmos character; Shantotto.

I just bought recently final fantasy XII (found the collectors edition for 15 bucks) and i'm still to play this game, but had only heard bad thing on it.
I hope it comes to be better than what I heard, still, FFXII chars are left out at the momment from dissidia, lets hope that changes

I think its the best final fantasy there is. I happen to be a fan of the creator though, his sense of design art, and world always have me hooked.
His previous games Vagrant Story, and Final Fantasy Tactics, and the Tactics Ogre series.

Its biggest problems are the same ones Final Fantasy VIII suffered from. Final Fantasy VIII wasn't Final Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy XII wasn't Final Fantasy X.

I feel the same as reson8er; it's my favorite FF (except perhaps FFTactics).
In fact, of so-called RPGs, I would give it the highest rating, though I think Oblivion is a better RPG, just not as polished a game.

Even though FF 12 was told through Vaan's perspective, Ashe was clearly the heroine of FF XII. She would be badass as an fighter in this game. And besides, you need a few more female fighters on the hero side. That or gunslinger Yuna from FFX-2 in this game.

I always thought XIII could be perfect in it,and it seems they had thought about it too but they have a point,if they show any skills of XIII would be like showing spoilers.
If they haven't denied the existence of a character from XII to Dissidia then that means there's gonna be one(or two)
ill say its gonna be Ashe bcause shes the important one in this whole story,if not then it would be Fran. we don't want Vaan but there still a chance for him since its the "Main character"we use after all.and for Villain side its Vayne.
I hope Shantoto and XII are not the only secret characters really,i am...WE are expecting more.

I have taken a long break from playing ff12 and when I get back into playing it, I might understand what people dont like about Vann. I am sorry for not taking on your opinions about Vann at this moment. Other than that, with no release date of FF12 or FF12Versus in sight, it wouldnt make sense to have either characters in Dissidia. Unlike with FFT in which you could recruit Cloud to your team. FFT was out three months after the release of FF7.

If they were going to use any characters from XII, they would either pit Vaan against his bro.'s murderer, Gabranth, or have Ashe fight her sworn nemisis, Vayne. And if there was any possibilities for XIII characters, I'd pit Lightning(hero of XIII) against Noctis(hero of Versus XIII).
