November won't be a good month for Sony, if the analysts at EEDAR are to be believed. According to Jesse Divinich, Sony can expect double digit percentage declines from the successful sales of November '07. PSP sales will have plummeted 25% from last year, while PS3 sales will have dropped almost 20%. The softening economy and fierce competition from Microsoft and Nintendo will certainly affect Sony's install base.
At the very least, Sony can take comfort in knowing that PS3 software sales will be up from previous years. However, due to the incredible drought of PSP software, Sony's handheld will be the only platform which will show a decline in software sales.

No surprise of course...I have to pay 150 dollars of which I do not have to have my ps3 maintenance. And Sony will not tell anyone why the Blu Ray messes up .. I do not want to buy a new one ethier...
Chin-Poh @ Dec 9th 2008 1:12AM
Why was he downvoted? My 60gb PS3's Blu-Ray drive died long ago and I sadly got a 360 instead. The Blu-Ray drive failures are more widespread than PS3 fanboys want to believe, maybe not as much as the RROD, but we no longer cannot pride on having such a well built system when the RROD especially was rampant in the 360.
I've been downvoted myself and some on the Playstation forum haven't believed me, thinking I'm a 360 fanboy, its a real damn shame. It is a big problem and I hope Sony has fixed it in the new 80 and 160gb models. My PS2 also had the disc read error back in 2002.
deaftly @ Dec 9th 2008 9:19AM
Mine just arrived in Texas, can't wait for the phone call to see how much it'll cost to fix :\
ftrunks @ Dec 9th 2008 11:15AM
@Chin-Poh
I see what your saying, same happened to me but the fact that Sony sent me another PS3 even though the warranty was well out shows how good the service is to me.
Unlike MS where they would have probably charged me enough to buy another console to have it fixed.
Hife @ Dec 8th 2008 6:19PM
They also said blu-ray sales would fall short this year, but they changed their tune a week or two ago. Of course, that was because of price drops, which the PS3 wont be seeing. Still, I've said it before, and I'll say it again: don't trust analysts (or therapists, and especially not analrapists).
ice~ @ Dec 8th 2008 7:05PM
lmfao @ analrapists, you are my hero
Chainblast @ Dec 8th 2008 7:28PM
An analyst is just a fancy name applied to a person who guesses in order to justify the ridiculous cost of their post-secondary education.
My prediction is PS3 sales in November will be up due to high profile releases in the last week of October and first week of November. While the PS3 won't enjoy the same kind of spike in sales the 360 is likely to have, it'll be a far cry from a double digit loss.
The fact these "analysts" are predicting such a huge drop in PS3 sales during the biggest release window of the year is absurd and an insult to intelligent people. There is one truth in the above article, it's dramatic; as dramatic as sales prediction can be anyway. It'll grab a lot more attention than a boring status quo or marginal gain, which are both more likely than a double digit loss.

He was saying a decline from the same time last year not last month. Some of you need to quit being such fanboys and learn to read charts before freaking out and posting nonsense. Go ahead and down vote my post like a good little fanboy and I'll be playing my 360/PC/ps3 like a good little gamer.

Miguel @ Dec 8th 2008 6:30PM
This also doesnt take into account that Black Friday was on the 27th and Cyber Monday was on the 1st. Many of the sales in the 7 days following black friday that usually contribute to Novembers numbers will go partially to December instead.
Aaron @ Dec 8th 2008 9:06PM
Well, I believe it. People cannot afford many luxuries at this time, so if I can completely understand someone buying a $199 Xbox (albeit gimped) over a $399 PS3. It's simple numbers. We Americans are cheap bastards. We will wait in line for 15 minutes at a gas station to save 5 cents per gallon, when we can go to the Chevron across the street, fill up, and be on our way in less time.
I think Sony is making a big mistake by not lowering price, even $50.00 would help.
KRIS_C_123 @ Dec 8th 2008 6:34PM
psst... why are we whispering?
Aaron @ Dec 8th 2008 9:06PM
Well, I agree with this assessment. People cannot afford many luxuries right now, so a $199 Xbox (albeit gimped) sounds like a much better deal than a $399 PS3 to the average consumer. We Americans are cheap bastards. We will wait in line for 15 minutes at the gas station to save 5 cents a gallon, rather than go to the other gas station across the street, fill up, and be on our way in much less time.
Sony is making a big mistake by not lowering the price of the PS3. Even $50 would be a huge help.

OK.. sorry for the last post. Comment system here sucks.
Anyway, I believe this analysis. A $199 Xbox (albeit gimped) looks like a much better deal on its face than a $399 PS3 to the average consumer. A lot of people are hurting financially right now, and remember we Americans are cheap bastards. People would rather wait in line for 15 minutes at the gas station to save 5 cents a gallon when they can go across the street, fill up, and be on their way in less time.

Yes, and gas will never drop in price again in fact it could be over 6.00 a gallon within the next year....Oh, wait really? Nevermind. Let me guess about something else really quick..... How about the weather?
bknight @ Dec 8th 2008 7:24PM
Honestly this is nothing new about the PS3, every analyst are saying the same thing.
What is with people buying the WII that console cant even play a DVD?
About the PSP, i would by a PSP if there were games actually released for it.

this is anoying and not right . how come the best console in the world losses?? *sigh*
McBonk @ Dec 9th 2008 7:30AM
@Ham...
Games? Really? If that is true, then how on earth is the Wii winning???
Your argument is absurd. It's all about price and marketing. The Wii to the family oriented crowd (my, there are lots and lots of families out there!) The 360 to the Mountain Deweys (hello dormitories and adolescents everywhere!) and the PS3 to... to... hmm, what was Sony's marketing plan again?
evilbob @ Dec 9th 2008 8:48AM
@ Ham : That's rubbish. I'm a bit confused as to how you got modded up.
Of the PS3s 'big hitter' exclusives you've got MSGIV, Resistance 2 and GT5 Prologue out, with GOW3, Killzone 2 and Team ICOs next waiting in the wings. Little Big Planet has proven to be a huge smash, with Metacritic showing a better score than GearsOW 3 or Halo 3. And a good showing in terms of downloadable games, such as Wipeout, the Pixel Junk series, Super Stardust, Echochrome and so on.
Microsoft have bunged Square-Enix a large amount of cash for a few exclusives. And what has it amounted to? Poor games like Infinite Undiscovery. They also bought out Rare, which appears to have dragged Rare down, rather than the quality of games on the 360 up.
And the 360 exclusives? Halo 3 and GearsOW3. Two more console FPSs in a crowded marketplace. And Microsofts inevitably inferior attempts to rip off popular PS titles (Lips, Scene it). While Nintendo and Sony take chances with games such as LBP and Lost winds, all the 360 gets is FPSs, PC RPG games that don't ever work as well with the poor XBOX controller and cheesy attempts to rip off Nintendo and Sonys exclusives.
Jmmaroli @ Dec 8th 2008 8:15PM
As an analyst predicting oil didn't work... precious metals was a huge failure... the economy? wasn't even close... how about console sales? Ouch that doesn't work... Weatherman: Highs of 50 and sun... Reality: Highs of 20 and snow... Predictions are getting pretty hard.
MartyK2500 @ Dec 8th 2008 8:23PM
As much as i enjoy my ps3 i hate to admit i chose the losing console of this gen.Don't get me wrong i think it's the console that gives you the most for your money! It all comes down to money...like in any case people go for cheap caus their broke.PS3 is a luxury priced console but i sure enjoy every bit of it!
warlock7 @ Dec 8th 2008 8:33PM
@Delta_38: Your broken pigeon english sounds remarkably similar to that of Lavat. Wouldn't happen to be the same troll?
Brian @ Dec 8th 2008 8:49PM
Does it really matter which console sales the most. my money is on the system with the better games .......PS3! As for the PSP yeah the lack of new releases are going to hurt sales really ....... tons of people buy it without getting into the games and the new 3000 bundle will surely sale during the holidays. Wii & DS sale and there arent many new games worth playing. In the end its the games, and features of a system that make it worth getting,
jj @ Dec 9th 2008 8:42AM
Well Sony, you've got your work cut out for ya. First do the simple things like, bring on the Dual Shock 4 (aka 360 controller like), how are you going to push FPS with an analog stick shaped like the one on the DS3??? For those faithful who love the DS3, that's cool just stick with it, but I'm one of Many who think it needs an update, badly.
What the heck is taking so long with those great game franchises like Gran Turismo and GOW??? And what's with not courting great game companies like Valve? I too want to play games like Left 4 Dead, sheesh.
I think if the PS3 community stopped bickering and defending past mistakes and stood up with one voice we'd get Sony to wake up and get some stuff accomplished.
Scary69 @ Dec 9th 2008 9:51AM
To Chin-Poh
You have had more issues with systems then a system. I still have the original PS2 and 60GB PS3 . Failure rate on the PS3 is about 2% while the 360 is 37% maybe more. Sony knows of the issue thats why they fix it unliks MS who gives you a 3 year warranty but then after that you have to pay. Also Newer bought systems are not covered by this 3 year warranty. So if you get the RROD good luck with it.
maxpontiac @ Dec 9th 2008 12:04PM
Why is the generation of gaming plagued by idiots who are hung up on sales numbers?
Who cares??
