MotorStorm Pacific Rift sells a million units worldwide

The game reached this milestone after just a month on the shelves. Pretty good, if you ask us. No doubt Pacific Rift owes much of its success to its predecessor. Hopefully more first party titles will reach this milestone, and beyond, before the end of the year. LittleBigPlanet, we're looking at you.

nice.........
and I dont see any reason WHY LBP COULDNT hit the mil mark in 20 days
Pumapayam @ Dec 9th 2008 1:40PM
Has LBP not hit 1 million yet?

0.96m sold so far. Only 400k more to hit the 1.00 mark!
Devin @ Dec 9th 2008 4:01PM
Don't you mean 40k?
Hashbrown Hunter @ Dec 9th 2008 7:14PM
haha whoops. thanks for the correction!
skoochy @ Dec 9th 2008 1:51PM
I would think that those sales are predicated totally on the predecessor, unless I am the only one who appreciates the high polygon count of the original that was traded in Pacific Rim for multiplayer modes and less slow down. These cars do not look nearly as good, and don't break into nearly as many pieces in their less-than-spectacular crashes.
Of course, maybe the intention of the game is to get around the track perfectly... which begs the question then why was so much detail put into the original's crashes?

Wow, I honestly assumed that the high numbers for Motorstorm 1 was just a spin due to it being bundled with the system for so long. Tonight I dine on crow.
Congratulations to everyone involved. Good show!
DrunkRaba @ Dec 9th 2008 6:36PM
Sony stopped counting games bundled with the system as sales a little while after that started. Though, their competitors still call those a sale I believe. Motorstorm 1 was just a damn good game.
heypaul @ Dec 9th 2008 2:57PM
That's strange... VGChartz has had the game at 240K forever. Now I know they're not usually dead on, but they're usually not THAT far off...

Of course, Motorstorm 2 nowhere near 1 million. It just the usual company play with the numbers (as Microsoft and Sony doing all the time). 1 million is the SHIPPED numbers, not SOLD number, which is a big difference.
Steev @ Dec 9th 2008 2:59PM
Motorstorm 2 might get a wee bump in sales here in the UK, shopto.net have it on sale at only £20, I was holding off but I've just ordered a copy now.
I enjoyed the first game, apart from the vehicle loading times, so I'm looking forward to this dropping through the mail on Thursday.

dude, pacific rift is so good. I love this game, so much fun I can't recommend it enough. The graphics are far better then any racer I have played in a long time also.
Game_playa @ Dec 9th 2008 4:10PM
Nice, Too bad some MOTHER*%(@ing Bastard broke into my house and stole my PS3 and laptop...... I know who they are, but I also know they are part of a gang and will probably shot me if I do something.....Life sucks...
iamkid @ Dec 9th 2008 4:14PM

Game_playa @ Dec 9th 2008 6:56PM

wow i think i almost cried when i read that. no fanboy should be separated from his ps3.
Peter @ Dec 9th 2008 3:51PM
I loved the demo on playstation store, and I loved the first one - But for some reason I haven't bought the game yet though.
Devin @ Dec 9th 2008 4:06PM
I got LBP, but I WILL be getting this. I'm almost done with the first one. I have like 12 more races to go (I think). The game is incredibly addictive....I also never take anything but 1st place, too so that's another reason I'm taking so long....
iamkid @ Dec 9th 2008 4:16PM
i DID enjoy the first one that was bundled with my ps3, although it felt like drudgery at times. i cant decide if i want this or not. i may get it sometime, i need to try the demo.
Peter @ Dec 9th 2008 4:29PM
The thing for me that makes this a must-have is the 4-player split-screen support. And there are so few games these days that support up to 4 players on the same console and I kinda miss the good old couch days.
sirpilf @ Dec 9th 2008 8:51PM
good im glad because it seemed like it wasnt doing so well but the game is so fantastic. gameinformer give it a semi-low score and even gave baja edge of control a better score.
im glad to see its doing ok.
VIPJiGGa @ Jun 21st 2009 8:15AM
People go to them for review scores? Never would have guessed.
collegekid13 @ Dec 9th 2008 9:55PM
that games good for graphics buts boring as f***. but congrats none the less
rgoff31 @ Dec 10th 2008 1:20AM
I've played the demo, I can't understand why this would have sold that many copies. How many copies has R2 sold?
Light @ Dec 11th 2008 7:18AM
That's a great reasult for a game that desappointed lots of fans.
RinkyDinkyDan @ Jan 25th 2009 3:17PM
Hmmm, this sequel didn't do it for me. Loved the first one but this felt rushed and almost like Mario Kart, what with it's lava and water levels etc.
