Uncharted 2 preview in Game Informer reveals juicy details

MaDogNik96 of GameFAQs reports that Drake will be looking for the "lost" ships of Marco Polo and will joined by one Chloe Frazer, who is voiced by Claudia Black of Stargate SG-1 fame. Speaking of voice actors, Nolan North will reprise his role as the main protagonist (editor's note: yay!). New improvements and mechanics, some of which were already reported, include free climbing, stealth gameplay, "more dynamic" melee combat, elimination of SIXAXIS controls, access to your weaponry during any stance, improved graphics, retooled QTE sequences that give the player more control and more.
The game will also reportedly use "nearly 100%" of the PS3's power (Drake's Fortune has been quoted as using 30%), but that sounds a stat that will remain true only until Uncharted 3 is unveiled. A scan of the article is available here. A summary of all the information can be accessed here.

Read the article, yesterday. Looks like it will be very good! Looking forward to this, as I replay through the original.
Araskaz @ Dec 11th 2008 2:31PM
You forgot the biggest detail!
It says that Uncharted used about 30% of the PS3's power... and with Uncharted 2 they are shooting for 80-90%!!!
Alan Tsang @ Dec 11th 2008 2:46PM
I always feel those numbers aren't really telling of anything about a game -- but I know some of our readers will be interested, so I'll include them. Thanks.
John S @ Dec 11th 2008 2:33PM
So when is this game coming out???
Batzi @ Dec 11th 2008 2:33PM
Can't wait to see actual gameplay footage!
Jerses @ Dec 11th 2008 2:34PM
when was the sixaxis used in uncharted 1? just like the time you have to cross a log...dont remember. But its ok that they eliminate the use of it.
John S @ Dec 11th 2008 2:37PM
tossing a grenade
Jerses @ Dec 11th 2008 2:43PM
@John S
Oh, yeah! i remember...now i feel great about them not using the sixaxis.
Eric E @ Dec 11th 2008 3:07PM
also crossing that one log early on (part of the demo too)
glad they're not required to use it.
HAAS599 @ Dec 11th 2008 2:47PM
With no load screens in uncharted 2, I wonder if the game will do some HDD installation at the start. Not a bad thing as long as it isnt anymore than 3 gb.
Hyams @ Dec 11th 2008 2:48PM
The origional game had no load screens (besides the initial one) and no install.
I would imagine the sequal will be the same.
Phizzy @ Dec 11th 2008 4:04PM
It did have load screens, it's just that pre-rendered cut-scenes played over the top. It's a good system.
Popfrogs @ Dec 11th 2008 4:07PM
I wouldn't worry about it. This is one of the few developers that understands how to stream level and texture data on the fly to prevent nasty preinstalls.
Fane @ Dec 11th 2008 5:24PM
Well, they were one of the pioneers of streaming with Jak and Daxter.
perestroika @ Dec 11th 2008 3:00PM
i still haven't played the original yet! damn these games being so expensive. and yes, $40 [at least in amazon] is expensive for cheap-poor bastards like me :)
will @ Dec 11th 2008 3:17PM

HardBoiled2009 @ Dec 11th 2008 3:04PM
sounds Great. i'm sad games arn't using the six axis at all .. i liked it in Resistance: FoM and Drakes Unfortune it didn't seem bad at all or feel awkward to control. what a shame ... oh well game with or without it will still be great
-.- @ Dec 11th 2008 3:04PM

Gaucho @ Dec 11th 2008 3:23PM
That just made my di#k sneeze.
iamkid @ Dec 11th 2008 3:24PM
no sixaxis makes me a sad person. but enough of the sad, im too excited for it!
Mattchewie @ Dec 11th 2008 3:36PM
The first one was awesome and since I'm currently replaying and rejazzing myself about the IP, the news of a second addition is fantastic music to my ears.
kentuckyfried @ Dec 11th 2008 4:01PM
Sooooo...Elena is out of the picture in this sequel?
Fane @ Dec 11th 2008 5:26PM
That was my thought as well. :(
HarryPS3 @ Dec 11th 2008 4:06PM
Awesome, can't fucking wait!
Devin @ Dec 11th 2008 4:20PM
"retooled QTE sequences that give the player more control and more."
More what!? You forgot another more! What more is there to know?
advil @ Dec 11th 2008 4:27PM
No Elena?! :-(
Their chemistry was amazing in the first. Yes, I know I'm talking about a game here (but it was more like a movie). This new person has a lot to live up to! I'm sad Elena is gone...
Nay @ Dec 11th 2008 6:55PM
yay! Nate your coming closer and closer to being released. What does 100% of the power mean? Like it'll use the whole engine of the ps3? Anywho sounds perfect!
Douige @ Dec 11th 2008 8:30PM
100% power means it will at least be "ON".
And NO, it will not use the whole engine of the PS3...article reads "nearly 100% , it could be upwards of 51% for that matter cuz its closer to 100 but never on the high 90%s. If it were like this Sony wouldn't be in the sh%& hole their in.
Peels87 @ Dec 11th 2008 7:13PM
i liked the sixaxis controls from the first game. i thought the grenade tossing was really intuitive and alot easier than other games without it. i was hoping that other developers would implement it in other games. i hope they include it as an option
Vincent @ Dec 11th 2008 8:16PM
I thought the sixaxis controls in Drake's Fortune were really easy and efficient to use. Specifically the grenade tossing. The first two~three tosses went really bad, but after that, it was instinctive and worked very well.
I want to see the option for sixaxis controls included as an option
Douige @ Dec 11th 2008 8:21PM
What is this BS?! Is this supposed to be Indiana Jones now! WTF! Graphics look dated, I don't know what the blabbering is about.
Pat @ Dec 12th 2008 12:46AM
Why do developers keep tossing Sixaxis support? In Uncharted they worked great, just like in most games I can think of, and unless developers keep implementing them we won't get better products and mechanics. Sony not pushing the implementation more, specially in first and second party developers, gives more ammo to all those early haters of motion controls to say that it was just a gimmick. I enjoyed every game that used Sixaxis and hope to still have the option in all future games.
Popfrogs @ Dec 12th 2008 1:11PM
The Sixaxis tech just doesn't implement well in most games. I imagine next year we'll see a PS3 price drop and the "breakaway" controller around the same time, along with some waggle-tastic games to take advantage of it.
