How long will these trailers stay online? We're not exactly sure. Hopefully, you'll be lucky enough to catch these Final Fantasy XIII trailers, captured from the recently released "Re: Final Fantasy XIII" DVD. Check out XIII and Versus after the break.
Versus looks awesome, XIII looks good too but I kinda got bored of the I hit u, u hit me sort of fights, kingdom hearts type of fighting is better, I got bored of the FF series when X came out. and disappointed me,
Maybe it's just me but FFXIII doesn't look like a traditional FF game (7-10) for me, it looks like more like a FFXII, while Versus Looks Totally badassssss, reminded me a LOT about Final Fantasy VII. But HEY, it's just my opinion.
Your right eNrique it kinda has the dark theme of FFVII but there's still alot of difference as in what they have in the game, not saying i'm compareing 7 to 13.
Dartmerc that's just what we'll have to wait and see
but look at the cars, guns and blades, they are no were close to the other types of traditional FF weapons were the main char. only has a sword. and the city looks more modern, bridges and buildings etc. unlike the fantasy cities in regular FF games. And the cloths.
The foremost feeling that those two clips invoke in me is astonishment over all the things CGI can achieve this day and age: the environs, light, shadows -- all bedazzlingly beautiful. The characters still look a bit tacked on what with their pixel-perfect facial characteristics and all, but I guess there's a reason why even the title "Final Fantasy" implies that it's not trying to mimic reality one-to-one.
It'd be nice to know how well the actual gameplay graphics hold up to what is being shown here.
You kind of get an idea of it here. The last ten seconds or so of each clip is real-time as opposed to pre-rendered. Mind you it's not the reduced poly models you'll see in actual gameplay, but they're cinematics with high quality models rendered by the actual game engine.
I have no link from the horse's mouth for proof, but when you spend as much time staring at this stuff as I do, you kind of develop an eye for things like color depth, shadow detail, aliasing and the like. Those of you who screamed "real-time!" on the Uncharted 2 trailer with me will undoubtedly agree.
actually.. the games are developed on PC's first, then they are optimised to what ever console.. Crystal Tools knows all the chip timings to get the game the best it could be at that time..it's just far easier to code for PC, obviously the PS3 was in mind as they do this..
Though as Hitori says - "aren't the two games going to affect each other? if your save in XIII reflecs something happening, then NPC's in versus will comment about it. I remember SE talking about doing that." - that sounds really interesting, although the amount of affects between the two games.. gotta wonder how that'd work..
I don't care what anybody said, but Versus 13 looks WAY WAY more interesting then FF13. I know i'm not alone, I mean just look at how badass all 4 of them looked, when they slowed down walking.
Is Versus a standalone game or is it supposed to come with XIII on the PS3? I'd really like Versus but if it's standalone I'll buy that for PS3 and get XIII for 360.
And your intention with that? Both games were first developed for the PS3. so both will definetly look better on the PS3. So buy both games for the PS and enjoy your Fabula Nova Crystallis adventure... ;)
I doubt there will be any graphical difference between the consoles, the 360 has a better controller and it's the one I use most often so I'd rather have a game I plan on playing a lot on my preferred system. I'm glad to see that PS3 fanboys still know how to objectively answer a simple question, oh wait...
aren't the two games going to affect each other? if your save in XIII reflecs something happening, then NPC's in versus will comment about it. I remember SE talking about doing that.
It does make more sense to buy both on PS3.. I'd love to play both games, but I only get one at the moment, I have no idea if that would change, but I'd say it'll be based on sales.. then on the other end of my point is that I seem to not either have the time, or commitment for RPGs at the moment, with so many games I'm trying to work through at the moment..
XIII seem the normal FF, though scenes looked to have the Turks, Sephiroth.. and what isn't shown is a boss looking character with one red eye, no doubt tied in some how to the kid in Versus XIII Versus is a darker path.. similar things, it seems to be in at least 2 time frames as the lead guy is older later in the trailer
I'll be getting XIII on my 360, as it's my console of choice and that's where my friends are.. Versus on the other hand, proving that it stays exclusive.. me & a friend will go halves on a PS3, as for us, the price point really isn't worth it for 1 or 2 games that we'll play only once each.. (by when the console will gather dust til Kingdom Hearts 3/game)
also note my comment above..
I expect my comments to be white before long, because that honestly seems the trend on this little chat.. happy playing..
cmon guys, why are you being such, well, fanboys? i thought we were above that at ps3fanboy, yet when someone chooses a game on one console over another based on preference of controller(which is a legit reason, if they look the same), why all the hate with the white out of his comments? his comments make sense to me. people need to get over being dickish about consoles...
For Video 2: Looks like FF Versus 13 is going to take place in Tokyo, Japan. How do I know this because the building @ 5:02 looks like Tokyo Metropolitan Government building No.1 (東京都庁 第一本庁舎). Heres what the real one looks like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo_Metropolitan_Government_Building
And it did say that its a Final Fantasy taking place in what might be the real world. This seems to be pretty cool if you ask me. Reality and fantasy mixing into one huge story which might be a blockbuster. I want this game!
Just because it LOOKS like touchou, doesn't mean it is. Liberty City looks a hell of a lot like NYC, but it isn't. I drive by Square's headquarters all the time on my way to work in Kouenji (Tokyo). All the designers did is look out their window for inspiration. How lazy of them.
That was a nice HEY-LOOK-AT-ME-I-KNOW-MORE-ABOUT-JAPAN-THAN-EVERYBODY-ELSE post. I'm just another jaded, bitter gaijin who has lived in Japan 5 more years than I should have.
Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but none of this was gameplay footage, yeah? I mean, it looks amazing but I do not want to see any more of the game's characters looking cool, I want to know what the gameplay looks like.
Man I miss all the CG cutscenes of Final Fantasy. They're simply the most beautiful and detailed in the industry. With every iteration after X, they've been cutting back on them...these two entries give hope that they'll be having more of them.
Don't get me wrong...I enjoy the seamless nature of in-game cutscenes to gameplay but CG-rendered scenes are on a whole different level entirely.
Yea, totally agree. But recently when the developers know what they're doing, a la MGS4, sometimes you can forget that it's not cgi, and your actually supposed to be playing. Happened to me a couple times, I was like, "Oh s***! This game play looks just like a cgi cut scene!"

It actually looks more like the traditional FF games (1-6,10-12) than the others. 7 and 8 were the oddballs as far as theme is concerned.

XIII looked pretty good, Versus looked totally badass.
Rowdehaj @ Dec 12th 2008 5:14PM
XIII reminded me of the Lord of the Rings, whereas Versus reminds me of The Dark Knight.
An I love both.
Averna @ Dec 12th 2008 8:06PM
I think FFXIII looks like your typical "Final Fantasy" game, where Versus looks like something a 'bit' less fantasy and a lot more black leather.
I'll get them both, but I think vanilla has my attention more, but that mostly because I'm a FF-nut
wicko @ Dec 13th 2008 8:29PM
I'm just hoping they don't go back to the FFXII route with action RPG style combat. I much prefer turn based.
