Fallout 3 patch brings Trophies, stops annoying freezing bug

RANDOMGUY has signed in
a little frustrating because of the
PS3FAN has sent you a message
bug that freezes your game every
LOL4THEWIN has signed off
time a PSN notification occurs. But thankfully, a patch has gone live in Europe (Update: and now America!) that finally squashes the bug. The patch also adds Trophy support. (Check out the Trophy list here.) Enjoy being able to play Fallout 3 whilst keeping your sanity.
[Thanks, David G.!]

i will gladly play it again!!! this game should have gotten GOTY not gta4 , which i didnt play againg even with trophies patch
Gaucho @ Dec 15th 2008 1:31PM
Same here. GTAIV never quite did it for me. it was pretty fun but even the news that a trophy patch was released for it didnt spur the smallest interest in me to pop in back into the console.
Jerses @ Dec 15th 2008 1:59PM
The think is that RPG are not everyones favorite. GTA4 did sell pretty well, so that means people like it. Also GTA4 with trophies make me replay the game and enjoy the other 30% i was missing. I didnt care about the stunt jumps but it was fun or finishing the assasination missions that first time i didnt care less. Also the trophies make me join the multiplayer thing i was not into it.
Bryan @ Dec 16th 2008 3:27PM
This may seem obvious, but you can also just restore to a saved game right before you finsih a quest. For example, I loaded my saved game right before I talked to Three Dog at GRN. As soon as I did, I got the trophy. To summarize, you don't have to play through EVERYTHING, just the particular event. Of course, I keep 30-40 saved games before I start deleting old ones. It's helped me when I've gotten autosaved with little to no life.

AAAAAARGH!
I got Fallout 3 in early November. But because a trophy patch was up in the air, I held out until an announcement came confirming/denying it.
Two weeks ago, to this VERY DAY, I fell ill. I missed a week of school. I decided, seeing as I need to kill time, I'll start FO3. I got pretty far. And NOW trophies are patched into it! And I bet they aren't retroactive! Aaargh!
I'm annoyed. Although, I haven't got THAT far. I guess it wouldn't hurt to restart, and not do things dumbly this time...
meatee @ Dec 15th 2008 1:35PM
Did you ever play Oblivion? I probably restarted my game 3 or 4 times until I got my character set up exactly the way I wanted it. Luckily I was already prepared when Fallout 3 came out, but there's certainly no shame in getting a fresh start with these types of games.
kentuckyfried @ Dec 15th 2008 2:51PM
If it's any comfort, you can replay the game using an "evil character" and get the trophies.
I'm 130 hrs in. Replaying this might not be that fun at this point unless I switch it up (go evil, etc).
JAH75157 @ Dec 15th 2008 1:37PM
WELL damn guess it's a good thing i'm not too far through my second time playing it. time to restart.
James @ Dec 15th 2008 1:42PM
Loved Oblivion, been waiting for the fixes to come (Knowing how many times in my 200+ hours of playing Oblivion I've had to dance around quest ending bugs and crap)
BILLS @ Dec 15th 2008 1:44PM
lmao.. what a hilarious, perfect article.. i could care less about the trophies.. i just want the damn freezing to stop.. i ill not restart my game just to start getting trophies.. ill finish it first..n my second playthrough ill get my missed trophies.
Gonzo @ Dec 15th 2008 2:03PM
Glad I'm not the only one who feels "whatever" about the trophies and " 'bout time" for the freezing patch. That was annoying.
I only got the game a week ago so I'm not really too far along but I'm not starting over now, I'm just getting into it.
However while now seeing the branching storylines, I may start a real evil *&^$ character for variety.
I only hope the trophy patch doesn't ruin the ability to backup the save data like what's happened with other trophy patched games I have: GTA4 & Burnout.
Robert @ Dec 15th 2008 1:43PM
I arrived to the office 30 minutes ago with my new copy of FO3, It is nice to have good instincts :-)
Grishrak @ Dec 15th 2008 1:43PM
Finally now I can take it out of the package.
Think Adrian @ Dec 15th 2008 1:46PM
damn, not retroactive.... I don't want to restart....
hurricane @ Dec 15th 2008 3:53PM
Trophies are not retroactive. Period.
Fallout 3 is amazing and I will gladly start another new game. Or 2. Or more.
vahdyx @ Dec 15th 2008 1:58PM
Well, it's okay, I sold all my motorcycle handles to random people and can't make my flaming sword! Son of a....
I'll start over it's no biggy, I'm only a LV 17
SuperDuckWC @ Dec 15th 2008 2:08PM
btw we have to restart the game three times to get all trohpies...
nakedatthecomp @ Dec 15th 2008 2:23PM
how so?
Archon @ Dec 15th 2008 2:52PM
Check the Trophy list. It'll become obvious.
William @ Dec 15th 2008 6:52PM
Actually, you don't have to. You can save the game right before you level up, then go kill/steal until neutral or evil and get the trophy, then load the save and go get another, etc.
Michael Hitpas @ Dec 19th 2008 10:59AM
just save right before leveling to level 8, 14, and 20. Then do a bunch of stealing and killing, boom, then get the evil level trophies. Then reload and donate to church of atom or donate scrap metal or give water to hobos, then boom, you get the good trophies. Only need 1 playthrough.
DuckWC @ Dec 19th 2008 12:35PM
not so easy...when you are too high in karma it's quite difficult to drop to bad karma only stealing plates and food,
anyway, I'll replay the game as evil. I'm curious to see what happend when you killed every body :D
Archon @ Dec 15th 2008 2:49PM
FUCK YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
maxpontiac @ Dec 15th 2008 2:10PM
Looks like this game is back on my radar.
I will be purchasing this game now..
Blackbyrd82 @ Dec 15th 2008 2:15PM
Don't need to do 3 playthroughs to get all the trophies...especially if you play as a "good" karma character. Just save right before you level up to the trophy attaining levels (8, 14, and 20?) and then reload after you level up, and do a bunch of needless stealing and killing to drop your karma to neutral and level up again. Then repeat with your karma lowered to evil. A bit of a pain, but it worked on the 360.
Popfrogs @ Dec 15th 2008 7:33PM
To get the evil trophy, save your game before you do anything in Megaton. Then, go arm the bomb and blow the town to hell. There's no quicker way to get -1000 karma.
greg @ Dec 15th 2008 2:14PM
I'll open the game now! I think Bathesda could have done a better job making sure both console versions were the same... Looking forward to starting this game now though.
HDpurist @ Dec 15th 2008 2:33PM
Awesome news about this patch. My game freezed for the first time yesterday and I bought the game since launch. Pretty solid programming in my opinion...other then the odd glitch here and there.
Will replay as a bad character and try out the trophies.
flynn110 @ Dec 15th 2008 2:35PM
this game is so broken for me. i am stuck on the waters of life main quest and everytime i go to open this door and the loading screen appears it freezes. and i mean every time. i have tried over 50 times to open this door. in my opinion this game is broken.
greg @ Dec 15th 2008 2:50PM
good idea, i hadn't thought about that.
daniel @ Dec 15th 2008 2:47PM
SWEET! I just finished my 2nd playthrough and I was waiting for this patch. Now I can enjoy the waseland all over again. For some reason, this has been the first game for me since The original Zelda, and Punch Out that I have wanted to play over and over again. Bethesda outdid themselves. Fallout 3 Should be GOTY but unfortunately its not. The game is just so plain old FUN, the character is a little too powerful and not any challenge on Normal but overall I can play this all day. I thought Far Cry 2 was fun until I started this and now I havent been able to put it down except for a few plays through LittleBigPlanet and Tomb Raider
The1stMJC @ Dec 15th 2008 2:53PM
I held back on this game for 1 reason. And that reason are those damn freezing bugs now I can buy it and not worry. The trophies are just a bonus and didnt have influence on my future purchase just a bonus.
Brian Spence @ Dec 15th 2008 2:53PM
This game was made in Bethesda, Maryland. Why would Europe get this patch first? Just curious.
William @ Dec 15th 2008 3:10PM
Because they're ahead of us on the timezones by a few hours. Wait a while and we'll probably get this today as well.
Hoot2k8 @ Dec 15th 2008 3:22PM
Trophies and Freezing update support just released for North America. Just downloaded.
cduran01 @ Dec 15th 2008 3:34PM
Looks like Ill be playing through it a few more times.
The_Icon @ Dec 15th 2008 3:42PM
Can anyone confirm the PSN freezing stopped? I have read conflicting reports...thanks
Lord_von_Punx @ Dec 15th 2008 3:50PM
Awsome Sweetness i love this game truly one of my
fav games of 08 i held off playing it when i heard.
About a trophy patch! .. so now i guess i'll have to
make a new file for the vault 101 trophy's oh well..
Just be thankful they didn't make a trophy for each of
the 17 endings lol.
TuxBobble @ Dec 15th 2008 4:46PM
Why is everyone overlooking the MORE IMPORTANT QUESTION...
Will this patch bring Walter back to life?
Jose @ Dec 16th 2008 6:18PM
i got fallout yesterday and now i have to star again for trophies -.-
KinjiroSSD @ Dec 15th 2008 5:34PM
How about a patch to fix the ps3 version's draw distance and other discrepancies between the superior 360 version. It isn't 2007 anymore Bethesda, crappy ps3 ports are unacceptable.
-slycooper_rocker- (lorddshadow the amazing) psn: shahanasalam @ Dec 15th 2008 5:33PM
thank god. the notifications made me quit playing. and the non-retroactiveness doesn't bother me much considering i quit when i left the vault. w00t!
ocdog45 @ Dec 15th 2008 5:58PM
i stopped playing for the trophies. this game is crack so when im done with R2 and COD i will play. hopefully that will be before killzone and sf4.

Tim Parsons @ Dec 15th 2008 8:24PM
Oh F#%K YEAH!!!!!
I've had this game since launch day and beleive it or not I haven't played it yet, I heard about this patch b4 I had gotten around to playing it(having picked up LBP the same day lol) & I've been waiting on this patch, now my sanity can be put to rest and I can finally play it THANK YOU BETHESDA!!!
shellheadexe @ Dec 15th 2008 10:23PM
the game still freezies up but not to long that couse u to restart your system. I put 120 hours into this with the new games save files at cap 130. That couse me to think about the DLC 4 FallOut3 " where do I stop the kill ing of the three Super Mutant Behemoths in FallOut before or after the DLC comes out ".
Bryden @ Dec 16th 2008 2:54AM
That's cool. Let's hope they also fixed the bug where it just freezes completely and requires a hard reboot. I haven't even finished the game because of that crap.
William @ Dec 16th 2008 11:59AM
Installed the patch yesterday, froze this morning.
