Festive LittleBigPlanet construction pack coming this week
The PlayStation Blog is calling the upcoming LittleBigPlanet DLC for this week a "level pack," which is a bit of a misnomer considering it doesn't actually contain any levels. Instead, this festive add-on pack will add construction materials to use in your own level development. This pack will be Christmas themed and will set you back $2.99, but be quick -- it'll only be around until the 8th of January.
For your $2.99 you get the following: Two new costumes (Christmas Tree headpiece and Gift Wrapped Sackboy), one new material (Wrapping Paper), two new items (a festive sleigh and a festive light), six new decorations (including a candy cane and a festive baubel) and, finally, "a ton" of new festive stickers. Not bad value for money, but we'd have loved if the pack had lived up to its name and included a level or two, which you'd need to traverse in order to pick up all these goodies.
Nevermind, we're thankful for what we get and, since LittleBigPlanet's release, we've been getting a lot. The PlayStation Blog article is keen to state that there are more packs on their way. No doubt we'll be grabbing each and every one of them as they appear.

I am still waiting for my Santa hat and beard.
Vincent @ Dec 16th 2008 2:56PM
I'm still waiting for Lumines Supernova (yeah, unrelated I know).
I might get this pack though
DeathroW @ Dec 16th 2008 2:57PM
I'm wondering why they still have not got the online working fully yet? I guess they're too busy making all this DLC for us to buy.
Haohmaru @ Dec 16th 2008 3:04PM
What are you talking about? I've been playing online quite a bit since getting the game.
DeathroW @ Dec 16th 2008 3:39PM
I'm talking about them not getting the point system up yet.
RazLeBoL @ Dec 16th 2008 5:07PM
It's still missing the online level builder that was supposed to ship with the game. We can only build locally for now.
Dartmerc @ Dec 16th 2008 8:01PM
I don't see the appeal of online level building; it's probably about as productive as playing that explosives level online with 4 players.
drdre74 @ Dec 16th 2008 2:57PM
I was hoping this was going to be new created levels to play in single player mode and not stuff to make a level. Oh well. it was a nice dream while it lasted.
ScottishPrik @ Dec 16th 2008 3:01PM
I don't think it's a very good idea wrapping a sackboy up like that. There doesn't seem to be any air holes.
nathan-dts @ Dec 19th 2008 2:23PM
It would be great to wake up on christmas and your relative presents to you a sackboy shaped gift.
I would scream with delight at my new sackboy plushie.
Roto13 @ Dec 16th 2008 3:11PM
I hate this "OMG LIMITED TIME ONLY" crap because they still don't sell PSN cards anywhere reasonably close to me so I probably won't be able to get this at all.
I love how Sony spent E3 talking about how awesome their downloads are when they're the least accessible downloads of the whole damn generation.
John S @ Dec 16th 2008 3:38PM
Have you tried target?
I've seen them at mine.
Roto13 @ Dec 16th 2008 3:40PM
There isn't a Target near me. (I should probably note that I live in Canada and PSN cards are less common up here than they are in the US.) Thanks, though.
rohan @ Dec 16th 2008 3:57PM
ya i no how u feel in live in Canada as well, i have tried searching for them at Best Buy, EB, 7/11, Futureshop but i have found Nexon cards (for maplestory and so on if any wants that)
stargateheaven @ Dec 16th 2008 5:39PM
Can't you buy them online...?
Brandon @ Dec 16th 2008 4:50PM
I use a wal-mart money card to buy stuff from the PS Store. You buy the card for $5 then you put however much money you want on it. The bad side of it though is that you have to pay $5 every time you want to add more money to it.
Jonathan @ Dec 17th 2008 5:29AM
Waaaah. Just because it's not accessible for you doesn't mean it's not accessible for others.
Roto13 @ Dec 17th 2008 11:03AM
Don't be an idiot. They're less accessible than downloads from Nintendo or Microsoft. Nintendo and Microsoft points cards are all over the place. This is yet another area where Sony has dropped the ball this generation. Your fanboy whining isn't going to make this any more acceptable.
Maulok @ Dec 16th 2008 3:03PM
I'm something of a LBP costume whore, so I will be buying this.
Of course, the stickers will make an awesome gift-wrapped Pod!!
kfm423 @ Dec 16th 2008 3:04PM
Is it just me or do flikr photos from the psblog NEVER load?
Galfridus @ Dec 16th 2008 3:07PM
So what happens if you make a level with DLC objects, and someone who did not buy the DLC tries to play it (or to gain an object from it)?
Hyperfludd @ Dec 16th 2008 4:00PM
Now THIS is something I'll pay for.
chris @ Dec 16th 2008 4:04PM
The pack and the rest of the Santa costume are available on the Asian (Hong Kong/Singapore/Taiwan/Korean) PSN store as of yesterday. Not seen yet on other regions though.
STEVE @ Dec 16th 2008 4:07PM
Sometimes the psn cards are in odd places. I bought them in gas stations here in the states.
Do you have gas stations or seven elevens that have a gift card counter that sell a bunch of random gift cards?
BLee @ Dec 16th 2008 4:22PM
how will this work, if we join a level online that uses these components.. and we dont own them?.. will we still be able to play these levels? will we be able to get these items that way?
aots16 @ Dec 16th 2008 4:37PM
will the psn cards from the US work in canada? if so we have them all over the place here if you have paypal i could buy them for you. psn aots16
ThiagoSpiegel @ Dec 16th 2008 4:42PM
i ve just downloaded some of free clothes on the PSN for the LBP, I instaled it, but when i open the game its not there... could someone help me?
Brandon @ Dec 16th 2008 4:57PM
I've found out that you have to download and install it for each account on your PS3. So, if you DL it and install it on one account, then you will not be able to access those items on another PSN User. So, redownload it and install for your account and it should fix it up. It's a small file so it doesn't take up any space at all.
bigpurps @ Dec 16th 2008 4:55PM
did you check your pop-it menu?? or if you imported the game you have to get the items from the lcation specific psn store
CopaceticOpus @ Dec 16th 2008 5:20PM
I'm surprised that anyone would be happy about this offer. Costumes and decorations don't add anything to the actual gameplay experience. Furthermore, a Sony graphics design intern could create any of these objects in a couple of hours, so I don't see much value in this offering.
What is needed most is more levels of the same high quality as the story mode levels. That I could see paying for, though Sony might generate more interest in the game if they followed the Burnout: Paradise model and released the first few packs for free.
Finally, if Sony would just improve the system for finding the best of the player made levels, it could really make things more fun.
ElectroGirl @ Dec 16th 2008 7:14PM
Building levels is way more time consuming and frustrating that I thought it was going to be. I'd be more excited about this if I had a few self built levels under my belt.
cartman58 @ Dec 16th 2008 7:58PM
I wish I knew this was coming out BEFORE the girlfriend and I created a Christmas level. We had to build our own sleigh and other related Christmas things. Oh well, I guess we can go back and touch the level up a little bit.
This is by far their best pack.
Sancho @ Dec 17th 2008 8:58AM
does your sleigh fly? the one i made does... PSN= Sancho45
Deaddy @ Dec 16th 2008 8:06PM
$0.99 for one costume is pushing it, $1.99 for one costume is far far too much. But I have to admit this pack seems like a good value at $2.99.
