Penny Arcade: Episode 2 features game-ending glitch, patch coming next year
If you planned on playing Penny Arcade Adventures: Episode 2 this holiday break, you may want to wait. Many users are reporting a gltich which renders their save files completely useless. Selecting a corrupted save file will freeze gamers on a permanent "Loading" screen.
The problem has since been identified, and will be patched soon. However, due to the holidays, SCE QA is taking a little break. That means this patch won't be available until the new year, in January. Right now, it's unclear if a patch will fix any current save files. Considering the Penny Arcade Adventures aren't too long, starting over shouldn't be too bad -- but we're sure players would rather not.

This happened to me last night, I was maybe 2 - 3 hours in. I won't mind playing through it again, but I'm glad to know this problem will be fixed soon so I'll wait for the patch.

What pisses me off is the Sony's break taking. Now. During the probably most lucrative time of the year for them... When, you know, people are likely to BE HOME and USE THEIR SERVICES, probably willing to SPEND MONEY. And don't even start me on the fact that there won't be a Store Update next week at all...
Sdrawkcab @ Dec 24th 2008 10:28AM
Yes, how dare they take a break during the holiday season. They should work when everyone else is relaxing!
Haohmaru @ Dec 24th 2008 10:28AM
I know, it's totally inconceivable to me that SCE's QA employees might be taking a break to "celebrate the holidays," of all things. They have some nerve, amirite?
Archon @ Dec 24th 2008 10:35AM
Cry me a river. There are millions people who won't be getting any holiday time off, me included. I don't think I remember the XBox guys going on holiday. They releases will be out as scheduled. Only the PSN stuff will be pushed back by a week. Downvote me if you do not agree. I'm just amazed how Sony manages to ebb between amazing ideas and some... not so amazing when it comes to competing against XBox Live.

The same glitch in the 360 version was reported on an episode of the Giant Bombcast awhile back around the release of the release on XBL. If I recall correctly it seemed ot be random and not everyone was experiencing it. Maybe blame Sony's Q&A department for letting it go through, but also blame the studio for pushing a delayed version with the same issue a month or so later. Microsoft also got caught.
Archon @ Dec 24th 2008 10:53AM
I'm not talking about the patch right now. I'm talking about content updates.
Kattleox @ Dec 24th 2008 11:28AM
Archon, you are an angry person. Your real name wouldn't by any chance be Ebenezer, would it? Cos I got three buddies I want you to meet. They'll probably show up at one or so tomorrow morning.
Archon @ Dec 24th 2008 12:17PM
It's just my pre-Chrismas Frustration. It'll pass once I open my presents. Then I'll go back to being a finger-lickin good, sweet little chicken thingy.
iamkid @ Dec 24th 2008 11:44AM
why should they spend their time with their families when they could be working? perfect logic to me.
warlock7 @ Dec 24th 2008 3:18PM
Hey Archon, go soak your head you POS.
MakaiOokami @ Dec 24th 2008 3:22PM
Is it just me or did they update the PSN um... yesturday? So... is that really pushing the content back a week? Is that really being lazy and taking a break? Or is that getting done what needs to get done and just taking a break. If people work too long or hard it reduces quality and increases irritability.
Of course you don't know anything about the business world do you? You don't know about the importance of human life do you archon? Naw seems all you know is "There are plenty of games for me to enjoy, and there's more great games available than I have time to play, but I still want them to keep releasing them."
estarriol @ Dec 25th 2008 2:35PM

In other words you think it's acceptable to take your moods out on others? Grow up.
deathmachine @ Dec 24th 2008 10:25AM
I just deleted my save file since I thought I didn't shut down the game properly and couldn't load up again. I guess I'll play something else until the patch is released.
Hector Martinez @ Dec 24th 2008 10:46AM
Screw that Sony hating comic.
Bagels PSN:WolfLogic @ Dec 24th 2008 11:06AM
Um... h-hey guys, you know, like... all that stuff we said about your console n stuff... yeah, that was kinda funny huh? Um, we have this new game coming out, and um... D-do you mind if maybe... we... could... release... it.. ontheconsolewesaidwehated?kthxbai!
chizad @ Dec 24th 2008 11:32AM
nice. someone should draw a hilarious comic about it.
estarriol @ Dec 25th 2008 2:35PM
This is exactly what I thought when I first read the article. They have been such asses about console companies and game companies, I hope they're going to be man enough to eat some crow on their own site. Somehow though, I doubt it.
Popfrogs @ Dec 25th 2008 3:44PM
@estarriol: I'm betting that they'll either gloss over it in their little newsy blog posts, or just completely ignore it. "We didn't program and QA the game" bla bla bla.
MrDaBucket @ Dec 24th 2008 1:19PM
If you like RPGs, don't waste your money on this game. I bought the first one. :(while poking fun at RPGs, they actually made a pretty shitty one.
rmjohnson124 @ Dec 24th 2008 1:19PM
I think the FAR bigger problem is that they seem to have released this thing without bothering to test it...don't they try this crap out before they sell it to people?
Kodros @ Dec 24th 2008 2:58PM
Can't catch everything.
Popfrogs @ Dec 25th 2008 3:46PM
Bah, nobody tests software anymore. The same cancerous release cycles from the PC world are now on consoles because we have hard drives so they can "release now, patch later".
All I can say is get used to it and learn to appreciate the great games that don't need patching (Uncharted, MGS4, etc.).
Gambit07 @ Dec 24th 2008 1:20PM
Patching games are making testers lazy.
matt @ Dec 24th 2008 7:14PM
i actually had a glitch just before i fought charles, i hadn't saved in like an hour, and just after charles threw his thing and "killed" my party, the game, without even freezing or anything, simply crashed to the xmb. almost ruined the game for me. i had to go back and play through the whole last hour.
