Dissidia is #1 in Japan, sells nearly half a million copies

Surprising no one, Dissidia was numero uno on last week's Media Create Japanese sales charts, selling an astonishing 489,126 copies. Did it have the best debut week ever for a PSP title in Japan? Of course not, not even close -- that honor belongs to Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which managed to push 820,000 copies out the door in its first week, according to PSPHyper. However, it did beat out another Final Fantasy spinoff, Crisis Core, by 3,000 units.
On the hardware side, it was also a healthy week for the PSP: our beloved portable saw 145,957 units in sales, though it was still bested by the DS, which sold 204,144 units. Now the real question is, does Square Enix's fan-service brawler have the momentum it takes to be top dog again next week? Sales numbers and ranking for the top 10 Japanese games of the week are after the jump:

Dynasty Warriors: Gundam is on PS2?
I think I played that game for 3 hours straight on a 360 in an EB once. There's something magical about giant robot wars. I wish we got it on PS2 in NA.
KlatchZ @ Dec 29th 2008 9:29PM
i think it will have a release in NA, 3/24 according to gamefaqs....

I don't quite get the japanese's love for Monster Hunter. I do get their love for Dissidia, tho...
Hope it keeps doing well. It's good for the PSP's future :D

So, does anyone know if Dissidia is non-Japanese friendly?
I don't wanna wait 6 months to play it, but I know NO Japanese.
reson8er @ Dec 29th 2008 1:19PM
It is to the extent that you can actually play the fights, it is totally playable.
However, there is a story and your be missing out on all of that.
Personally Id love to play this game, but I'm going to wait, as without the story, its just any other fighting game.

people are really stupid over their. i can't believe they still buy a ds when theres the dsi.
GO, DISSIDA!!!!! When the software charts are being invaded by ds and wii games, one psp game, a ps3 game, and two ps2 games prevails...
Lol, most of the ds games on the sales chart are just ok. there not good. pokemon platinum is basically the same game with more pokemon and a slightly different story. Kirby started sucking when it came to the ds, aminal crossing is the same game that was on the ds.
other than that, the other ds games looks or sounds weird. tales of heart could be good

since you seem to be knowledge-challenged, let me throw you a bone:

it's funny how you cheer on a *DYNASTY WARRIORS* game, then criticize pokemon for not introducing enough innovation. did i say funny? sorry, i meant HILARIOUS.
another hilarious part? "people are really stupid over THEIR" - hahaha!

Gooooo Monster hunter! I cant weit for Monster Hunter United to fimally show around!
dronesensor @ Dec 29th 2008 10:40PM
and the waiting begins... let's hope it will put up some decent numbers when it hits other territories, too, especially the U.S., because the PSP really needs a hit.

oh about the other comment u said to me, i was cheering dynasty warriors because it actually got on the top 10. pokemon games are mostly all the same with a few new monsters and a little more stuff.
your such a nerd. who cares if i said there? oops, i guess you're going to criticize me for saying your instead of you're.
let's compare the kirby games on gba and ds:
gba:

ds:

also, i was not talking about canvas curse. that game was weird and fun to play.
