LittleBigPlanet earns ELSPA gold, 200K copies sold in UK
Edge notes that the healthy sales figure was due to a strong TV campaign which ran throughout the holidays -- such as commercial spots like the one embedded above. Sources also tell Edge that LBP is due any time now to receive Platinum status (300K copies sold and onward). Hometown heroes Media Molecule must be grinning ear-to-ear.

Glad the rest of the country is enjooying LBP as much as I am!
So much more than a game.

Brutal price cuts and bundles also probably helped here in the UK:

Sony no longer counts bundles as a hardware and software sale, just a hardware sale, unlike the big M and the N.
DeathroW @ Jan 8th 2009 6:28AM
Only 200K? Seriously? I mean it is good but i really expected more than that considering how much they advertise that thing.
I saw all 3 of the LittleBigPlanet TV adverts within the space of 10 minutes a few weeks ago, they advertised it like crazy.

here in chicago I dont think ive seen any lbp ads :-( cept the one ps3 ad which had a glimpse of a sackboy reflected on teh building.
Vincent @ Jan 8th 2009 6:42AM
See, Sony? Advertising goes a long way...
Mutsch @ Jan 8th 2009 6:45AM
Good to hear that people finally appreciate this product as much as it deserves it. Can't imagine that Sony would eventually drop further LBP plans due to the low number of sold copies.
DarthNemesis @ Jan 8th 2009 7:37AM
Game is already platinum world wide, but it's good that it's still selling.
Paulmichael @ Jan 8th 2009 7:36AM
It's almost at 2 million in global sales! Keep up the advertising Sony, and up it even more when the co-op patch comes out!!!
Martin hald @ Jan 8th 2009 8:43AM
Your right... W H E N the co-op patch comes out. :-(
And give me my play-create-share stats together with the co-op patch. Then we can talk about it.... I mean, those stats where meant to be there in the first place.. MM! Get your ass working..
Sorry. I enjoy playing lbp but I really miss the stats and co-op play.

Sony definitely should take good care of this game.
Its not a game that you see all over the place like FPS games(no offence).
This game is a one of a kind and has alot of potential.
Sony should definitely continue advertising this game.
And also official stages from Media Molecule would be great too.
Like the MGS stages. I bought the MGS DLC the day it came out
and I'm really enjoying it :)
Nomi @ Jan 8th 2009 8:42AM
Just got the platinum trophy...took a while, but probably won't be touching it until the next Level Kit.
Mo @ Jan 8th 2009 11:01AM
one of the best games ever... no doubt almost done with booty master and the play trophy... now to focus on creation.buwhahahaha
Nomi @ Jan 8th 2009 8:43AM
Weird...

shame about the "failed to laod game" error, the lag and the fact it resests my whole console with a odd beeping noise everytime i turn it off , oh and the lack of online co op building , yes the game was a great idea, its funny, but 70% of my time with it has been spent on trying to get the poxy thing to work , its disgusting how games are allowed to be sold with such bugs
,,|,, media molecule
DeathroW @ Jan 8th 2009 9:21AM
Works perfectly fine for me :)

aye lucky for some, i know im not alone with them problems though as iv seen others in the forums saying the same thing, not sure why some would have that grief and others not, wondering if it was something todo with having the beta.. dunno, iv emailed MM and asked but had no reply what so ever, dont get me wrong i do like the game, no games ever made me laugh as much as Lbp has, its just frustrating it takes a couple of loads to get it working online then when it does it crashes due to lag, and im on a 10mb wired line with no router so i know its not my connection, personly i think these issues should be delt with before they start charging for dlc, and the fact they havnt has just made me wary of them and not so likely to buy there next product out the shops, i'll get it second hand
DelSource @ Jan 8th 2009 9:35AM
Would this be the game that, in mid-December, the main gaming sites claimed had sold less than 350k WORLDWIDE?
So much for the failure many people have been claiming for this game. I believe it passes 2 million global sales this month. Not many brand new IPs do those numbers.
RCW @ Jan 8th 2009 9:34AM
This is going to be an "evergreen" title. I'll bet it will continue to sell steady for years.
kentuckyfried @ Jan 8th 2009 11:56AM
There were little big planet commercials on TV? O_o
As far as I could tell, there were none that I saw on U.S. stations...or maybe I'm just not watching enough t.v. broadcasts (I usually download them instead of watching them in real-time).
berto @ Jan 8th 2009 8:29PM
the game has only been out for 2-3 months? this game will be epic, just give it time...there's still too much negative publicity surrounding the ps3 in the states....so something as even as great as this will take some time till the word of mouth gets out to the masses.....LBP is still pretty unknown but as we know, if you try it, you love it......with that said, when its all said and done, LBP will be Mario's successor and should be an automatic launch title must have with every new Sony system in the future, Mario-style.....
JaseH @ Jan 8th 2009 6:33PM
I've seen so many commecials in Australia. All. the. time.
Moreso than 360 commercials.
Which is good.
