All four Burnout Paradise Legendary Cars revealed
The Back to the Future-inspired hovering 88 Special was just one of four cars to be introduced in the upcoming Legendary Cars DLC pack. Today, Criterion has revealed all four, one of them taking a cue from Ghostbusters. The Manhattan Spirit is based on the film's Ecto-1 -- in the game, it's a stunt car that has some kind of special ability when players hit L3. Hrm.
The Carson Nighthawk, based on Night Rider's KITT, has a special lighting array triggered by boosting, which should look fantastic at night. Finally, the Cavalry Bootlegger is a tribute to "The Chicanator," with a massive horn that can be triggered with L3. The fanservice can be seen in all its glory in our gallery.
Update: Video after the break.

You have to pay, but Criterion gets kudos from me for offering completely free DLC up to this point, and these cars are so freaking cool that I will gladly pay.
lvphilly @ Jan 9th 2009 1:14PM
wow! that's wicked cool cars!
dabamf @ Jan 9th 2009 1:15PM
Very NICE!!! I LIKE!!!! HOW MUCH?????!!!!!!
William @ Jan 9th 2009 1:18PM
Oh wow, I'm stoked. Those are amazing choices for cars. I'll gladly pay the fee for those. I wish they'd hurry up!
dabamf @ Jan 9th 2009 1:26PM
Criterion is a genius distributor. First of all, you can download the game or buy the disc. Second of all, the game is easily expandable much like LBP, so they don't have to worry about developing a sequel right away.
MikeDawg @ Jan 9th 2009 1:51PM
I havent played burnout in a very long time but i may have to dust it off for this.
But one question Criterion....
why not the original KITT?
robert @ Jan 9th 2009 2:05PM
same reason the "General Lee" has a mexican flag on the roof.
not licensed to use the cars these are "parodies" of
haldier @ Jan 9th 2009 4:20PM
Haven´t seen the new movie or series (don´t know think it is a new serie), but it´s probably like a commersial for that.
il_duce620 @ Jan 9th 2009 3:24PM
Free would be nice...but I would gladly drop $5 for those cars...
AcidWolverine @ Jan 9th 2009 3:44PM
DLC for this game will be worth every....single....penny! :) I am in no matter what they charge.
nakedatthecomp @ Jan 9th 2009 4:30PM
I guess no one knows a date of when these are coming yet?
Guldevito @ Jan 9th 2009 4:32PM
Sweet, I love Criterion! Still though I'm wondering about the price will each new dlc be sold seperately or can we buy all at once. If all at once they could probably end up charging around 20.00.
required @ Jan 9th 2009 6:43PM
Now if they could allow us to turn off the horrid theme song as it makes the game sound like ass.
In other words, I hate Guns n' Roses. If I had known about how tethered the game is to that music I would never have bought the game.
Seriously. Not a good purchase.
linebeginstoblur @ Jan 9th 2009 7:41PM
I don't see what problem you have with the game. It's called Burnout Paradise, so they play "Paradise City" at the start. But once you start playing, you can listen to all kinds of other songs on disc. But if THAT still saddens you, you can even listen to custom soundtracks.
You're telling me that just because it has a certain song when you start the game up that you only hear briefly, you wish you hadn't purchased the game? Wow. Just wow. There are much worse things in life than a little melody that you hear when starting the game up. Seriously.
required @ Jan 9th 2009 8:30PM
linebeginstoblur, it's a horrible noise, it's not unlike being forced to look at goatsee. Also, your mistaken in thinking it's brief. The hell is all over the game. The other thing I hate nearly as much is that "DJ" oddity. Ugghh. Both truly ruin the game.
Now if they would improve the game settings and allow us to permanently turn those four star expletives off it would be nice. But the audio settings in the game are practically nonexistent. Very few options in the game.
spinthelights @ Jan 10th 2009 3:52AM
"...it's not unlike being forced to look at goatsee. [sic]"
Hyperbole much?
ferret @ Jan 10th 2009 10:06PM
you CAN make it so a song you dislike never plays again. i too hate Paradise City, and now i only hear it on gameload.
I believe you can also turn off the dj guy, but i actually like him.
flarkle @ Jan 11th 2009 12:55AM
You have complete control over what song is playing. One button press can switch tracks, not to mention I think you can set up a list of what songs you want to play.
That said, you're being a bit dramatic about a song. Sorry not every game and gamer have the same music choice as you. If only they would put custom soundtracks in the game so you could listen to whatever you wanted....oh wait. Nevermind.
required @ Jan 11th 2009 1:18PM
no ferret you CAN NOT make it so a song you dislike never plays again nor can you silence the "DJ"
required @ Jan 11th 2009 1:22PM
and flarkle, no. You can not permanently set a custom track or track listing or get rid of the wretchedness that plays automatically on load. These are things you should most definitely be able to do though.
IHateBioshock @ Jan 9th 2009 7:52PM
Paying up to $10 for these cars would be a pleasure after the ridiculous prices they charge you for a single SOCK in home.. daylight robbery ;)
And this game is amazing, easily my most played game of the last year.. I've spent hours and hours online (and off) and still got gameplay through the roof :)
IHateBioshock @ Jan 9th 2009 7:54PM
Oh as much as I love the game, I also agree with 'required' about the GnR theme song.. not that I think you shouldn't buy it just cos of that.. that's stupid.. but the song is ANNOYING as **** after so many plays.. and no way to mute it on startup PLEASE Criterion fix that... *shudder* (I used to be apathetic towards that song, now I hate it)
so wrong @ Jan 10th 2009 7:25AM
How about you just keep your tv on mute, until you press start followed by R1 to switch tracks. Problem solved!
IHateBioshock @ Jan 10th 2009 8:47AM
problems should be solved by developers not users ;P
flarkle @ Jan 12th 2009 8:57AM
I don't think there has ever been a more appropriate song for a game. Whether you like GnR musically or not, I don't think the song can be denied as being appropriate to the game lyrically.
Plus I don't see how anyone that likes rock music could hate GnR as vocally as the two people here, so I assume you wish the theme song was some silly rap song like Soulja Boy, or you want it to be some new emo rock like My Chemical Romance or Fall Out Boy. Considering the crap that is played nonstop nowadays, I find GnR to be a refreshing change of pace.
IHateBioshock @ Jan 12th 2009 9:27AM
No actually.. it wouldn't matter WHAT song it was... the point is I've heard it over and over a hundred times now - I've played burnout P more than any other game on my PS3 (a hell of a lot). It's not really about GNR it's about making the option 'music off' apply to ALL areas and not just in game - ie the title screen. Yes you can mute, but it's such a simple option the devs should include it. Sometimes.. late at night I've loaded the game while going to the kitchen etc and forgot about the vol and BAM! ;)
Charles @ Jan 10th 2009 4:40PM
Thats not the general lee, its the car from the movie Vanishing Point(1971).
brian @ Jan 12th 2009 1:50AM
what is the Chicanator? I the tribute looks like the general lee.
