Wow! The official websites for Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII have gone live, and at least one of them is jam-packed with direct-feed images of this hotly anticipated game series. (The Versus XIII website, we're afraid to report, is quite bare-bones right now.) No more scans, please! This is the real deal.
i really dont think the real time graphics shown in both the trailers and the stills are NEVER going to run like that on the 360
it wont even look half that good, considering Epic games have already stated gears of war 2 utilises about 80-85% of the possible graphics on the xbox and the new final fantasys look WAY better than that
Im not sure about that. Gears of war used corridors so there isnt much to load and that give them space for the graphics and textures (oposed as uncharted that it was a huge corridor or open world).
As seen on the screenshots...they still use that corridor bubble sky thing :P
I am a ps3fanboy but it the 360 can pull of graphics like this how is the ps3 any better? I know it's going to be on multiply dvds but that didn't bother me in the ps1 days so it probably won't bother to many people to switch disks. I'm just wondering how long it will take for other 360 games to start looking like this and killzone and the like. no flame needed just asking out loud thats all. your opinion.
Not that I care much about the "who can pee farther" graphics comparisons between the PS3 and the X360, but thus far we have not seen what the X360's version will look like. To my knowledge, they haven't even started working on it. SquareEnix plans to begin that leg of development after the game is finished on the PS3.
I think the graphical differences on the PS3 and 360 don't matter at all. They're far too unnoticeable. The reason I like the PS3 more than the 360 is because I would rather have the PS3 exclusives (I like LBP and Motorstorm a lot more than Fable and Too Human), HOME (which is looking to be awesome http://uk.ps3.ign.com/articles/943/943373p1.html) and loads of other reasons (controller, blu-ray, built in wi-fi, some cool original PSN games). All of these reasons are why I love the PS3 more than the xbox but they're are all opinion. IMO no console is better, it's just totally down to which suits you more.
Any screens you see are from the PS3 version of the game. It's being finished first and then ported to the 360 for the European and North American release. Of course the game will still look phenomenal on 360 it may not look exactly like the PS3 version.
Didn't Musashi do the Crisis Core soundtrack? That was one of my favorite STs to date, period. He actually made a few of Uematsu's arrangements better IMO.
Anyone know how to get the other song to play? The first time i went to the site, it played the piano song, and then it played a cool battle theme style song right after it, and then looped back the piano song, and it never goes back to the battle theme anymore, and I don't see any type of button to get it to play. I don't know how I got it to play before.
Yea the graphics and music are top notch. I'm very glad I have a PS3 for this one so that I can have the best version out there. I honestly don't think I've gotten this excited about a Final Fantasy since VII. The whole X series was pretty lame and I never got to play XII. Can't wait!
Btw, silly question I'm sure. Is there a firm release date on these two games yet.. or at leaset a general time frame? Seems like these games have been in the dev process forever haha :).
Not that I care much about the "who can pee farther" LoL I didn't realize that they hadn't begun coding for the 360 yet, anyways we (america) have a long time to wait till either version comes out. I would like to echo the above comments about the music and how awesome it is. Can't wait
some people (myself included) don't like that they got rid of the world map/freeroam mechanic of the game. I really liked FFX, but I was extremely disappointed the first time i played it.
FFX and X-2, while good in their own right, in retrospect felt a lot like a practice run, moving towards the no-random-encounter gameplay of XI (haven't played it) and XII. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the combat system has evolved since XII, & Crisis Core with that strangely addictive *random* slot machine aspect. I don't want to get my hopes up, but I can't help but feeling we're in for something truly epic with XIII & Vs.
World maps are unnecessary if the world is open enough like in FF XII. The problem with X was, among other things, the fact that the world was pretty much a really long corridor. Add the obnoxious number of cutscenes and the dumb-as-bricks main characters and suddenly the game is pretty annoying.
But it's still good. The battle system and character growth system were really interesting, but I wish they weren't interrupted so often for the sake of explaining every little detail of the world to me. In unskippable cutscenes, no less. Argh. Extra playthroughs are terrible in that game. >_>
Just wanting to get things clear in my head, so correct me if I'm wrong - Versus XIII is a spin off from Final Fantasy XIII, and it is a (for now) a PS3 exclusive?
That's my understanding of it as well. I think Versus is supposed to have more "action-oriented" gameplay, which makes me think it'll play more like Kingdom Hearts. But I don't know any details.
It's an action RPG directed by Tetsuya Nomura, who directed Kingdom Hearts, and it's been stated that the battle system is derived from the Kingdom Hearts one except it'll be more "realistic" (yeah, right) and have some third person shooter elements.
Everything about the above paragraph sounds terrible to me. It's going to be Kingdom Hearts meets Dirge of Cerberus with more manorexia.
"and it's been stated that the battle system is derived from the Kingdom Hearts one except it'll be more "realistic" (yeah, right) and have some third person shooter elements."
Gosh... You just killed that game for me... Anyway, it's wait and see at this point.

FF versus XIII FTW!

I will say that the music on the FFXIII page sounds pretty great. wish they had some on the versus page.

the exact demo that they shown at e3 for the 360 conference will be exactly how it looks on 360, and honestly i cant tell em apart

The music is epic. The wait for this game is going to be painful.

thats some fucktastic music O_O

I LOVE the song, Nobuo Uematsu is a legend.
Don @ Jan 9th 2009 10:38AM
Actually, that music is composed by Masashi Hamauzu. Uematsu is no longer with Square Enix and is now a free-lance composer.
Vincent @ Jan 9th 2009 11:43AM
That's Masashi Hamauzu, the true god of VGMusic. Listen to SaGa Frontier 2 OST to understand what I'm saying

same here. FFX was so much fun to me! i really enjoyed it

I loved FFX. Blitzball alone sidetracked me for weeks.
FFX2 on the other hand...

A Final Fantasy game with a Dragon Quest 8 style world map is what I dream of.

1 or 2 month for ff13 and for the big daddy bomb ff13versus between the ending of summer november if i remember.
Gambit07 @ Jan 9th 2009 1:26PM
Does that sword on the Versus page have an engine?
Daniel @ Jan 9th 2009 1:38PM
Even though I haven't seen too much on Snow, he looks like a cross between Seifer and Gambit, so he automatically rules in my book.
Shadow @ Jan 9th 2009 2:11PM
Yes, Yes it does, first thought that came to mind was Devil may Cry 4 cause of Nero's sword being similar LOLz

One of the reasons I got a PS3, but I still need a psp for FFXIII Agito. Square also hinted at another FFXIII title(That's alot of XIII's).
