Slo-mo deaths aplenty in new Killzone 2 trailer
Killzone 2 is only a month away folks. Are you on the hype train yet? If not, you may want to check out this very artistically crafted trailer, which shows Helghast being ripped apart by the game's various weapons. It's beautiful and gives you a chance to truly appreciate the incredible detail that went into crafting this amazing game.
Update: Commenters have correctly pointed out we featured this video at CES. However, this is a direct-feed version of the same trailer. We hope you enjoy the bump in quality.

I never played the first one but I look forward to the second!
FeaturePreacher @ Jan 13th 2009 10:52AM
Why is this considered hype? All they're showing is in-game footage in slow-mo. I think hype would be showing trailers that were just computer generated and didn't show in-game footage as was done in 2006. This is not hype in my opinion.
FeaturePreacher @ Jan 13th 2009 10:53AM
The above is a sincere comment and not sarcasm.
Gambit07 @ Jan 13th 2009 11:32AM
that was in 2005
j.howlett @ Jan 13th 2009 11:33AM
they're both examples of hype, the first was this is the game we're working on and how we want it to turn out. this is our game is almost here, look what we did
blkant @ Jan 13th 2009 10:54AM
glorious :), but yea, seriously, they need to actually make a trailer and actually hype the hell out of this game (this is still cool though :) )
Ott @ Jan 13th 2009 3:47PM
are you serious...take a look back a few days and look at the killzone videos they have i think 5 of them and this one is included
Jez @ Jan 13th 2009 10:59AM
AWESOME...
I don't have sound on my work computer but that's just guaranteed my pre-order
Mann @ Jan 13th 2009 11:00AM
Sony really needs to make a TV spot with something like this. I pre-ordered this game back in July and now it's almost here.
Mo @ Jan 13th 2009 11:00AM
is that new? i dont think so...
when i first saw the slow mo clip in hd it made me a believer. I went and gave game stop 5 bucks to get the demo code :-)
nakedatthecomp @ Jan 13th 2009 12:57PM
is it out already?! i pre-ordered yesterday and they said they didn't have them...
Mo @ Jan 13th 2009 1:02PM
they give you a scratch off card with teh code on it. Demo wont be up until february 5th. Im going to move my $5 to another game, and then preorder from amazon with my giftcards for the home clothes
Maulok @ Jan 13th 2009 11:46AM
I hope there is a massive media blitz planned for this game. It's a month away, and despite a gaming drought there are too few people talking about it for my liking. I don't want to see it come and go without much of a blip like Resistance 2 did.
...Admittedly, though, R2 had much more competition last fall.
Scilent @ Jan 13th 2009 11:02AM
That is the prettiest console shooter I think I've ever seen. Very impressive.
KingKRule @ Jan 13th 2009 11:02AM
At about 0:41 theres a clip of the player moving and on the floor is his shadow. Ha I know its something small but that really surprised me. I hate how some first person games your just a floating head with no body.
Jerses @ Jan 13th 2009 11:27AM
looks good looks good...but i guess ill have to put my screen to "DYNAMIC" to see a thing in this game. This will be my last shooter i buy to my ps3..im getting tired of them.
Im curious about how good the gameplay is because i remember the first one sucked real bad.
Prince King @ Jan 13th 2009 11:31AM
yeah me too. i dont know what has changed about the gameplay. the 1st killzone was grade A suckage
NotoriousJnX @ Jan 13th 2009 11:45AM
how do you turn the lights on in this game?
flubba @ Jan 13th 2009 11:55AM
Isn't this the same as the old article http://playstation.joystiq.com/2009/01/09/killzone-2-videos-are-in-your-eyes-now/ ?
Popfrogs @ Jan 13th 2009 12:35PM
Yeah I noticed that too. It was the first video in the slew of videos from a few days ago.
trolldax @ Jan 13th 2009 1:37PM
I don't really get it, games are too much about corporate marketing nowadays. I've found no convincing evidence that this game would be an improvement over the crap we've been spoonfed the last 10 years (disregarding the graphics). This video made me sick, it gave me the impression that this games is really just an empty shell of beautiful graphics which capitalizes on the idea that killing is cool.
FYI I love my ps3 and look forward to many great games in 2009, this one will for sure not be one of them!
The Dark Trooper @ Jan 13th 2009 4:18PM
Killing is cool when your playing Resistance 2
The Dark Trooper @ Jan 13th 2009 4:19PM
or Killzone 2
TONY @ Jan 14th 2009 1:03AM
the fact that, the enemies are reacting the way they are is pretty impressive. how many shooter games do you actually see a enemy actually react to being shot, instead of just taking ten or so bullets then going down. i also like the inclusion of Clan Valor points, that can eb up for grabs if you are playing a clan war. and the perk system that seems to have a nice twist to it.
sure some of it might have been "spoonfed" features but to see this all in one Gorgeously wrapped game is enough of a reason for me to buy this game.
plus i would never buy a game based off videos alone, that would just make me a bad consumer. i have read many different sources that praise this game.
endo23 @ Jan 13th 2009 2:35PM
I'm a new PS3 owner (have a 360 as well) and have been absolutely loving the system so far. Been playing Wipeout HD, Ratchet and LBP like crazy, as they're the kinds of games you can't find on 360. That said, I just can't seem to get excited about Killzone 2. Yes, the graphics are impressive, but the gameplay looks really tired, and the art style/design bores me. And even if KZ2 surpasses something like Gears 2 technically, that game had a ton of variety in its environments, and was on another level artistically (I'm thinking of the stages in The Hollow, in particular). This looks more like Gears 1, a drab, black, gray and brown palette and a lot of destroyed urban settings... Anyway, I don't say this to start a flame war, I know some players really dig FPS, I guess I'm just more excited by new IPs and new modes of gameplay. That said, I hope this sells like hotcakes and moves some systems, so more developers will flock to PS3...

Where's the gore?
SG @ Jan 13th 2009 3:32PM
The first time this video was featured we could watch it in 480p -- how is THIS a jump in quality?

what is that song called that is playing? like jazz classical?
Strokemouth @ Jan 14th 2009 4:29PM
It's called The Flower Duet from the opera Lakmé. It's very famous and is used in a bunch of commercials and stuff.
MattDark @ Jan 14th 2009 3:44AM
Certinaly looking good, but did anyone else feel that it was a bit too 'spinny'? Just I though alot of the bad guys seemed to do a 'turn on the spot and fall' when killed by standard means (Gunshots to anywhere but the head)
Dont get me wrong, it looks great, but I thought they might have picked some more varied death animations.
xenorevlis @ Jan 14th 2009 7:12AM
A few people have asked about this and the answer is very simple - this video was intentionally constructed with "spinning" and "dancy" deaths. There are countless videos from the beta and trailers showing more elaborate animations, however...
At CES during the Killzone 2 presentation the speaker said they put together a video using their Hit Response system to show the enemies "doing ballet". Thus, it was named the "Ballet of Death" :)
