Cafe coming to PlayStation Home
It looks like PlayStation Home will be expanding soon, with a brand new Home Space. This cafe was introduced on the PlayStation Boards by Home Manager Locust_Star. Apparently, this space already exists in the Asian versions of Home. From the looks of things, this is just a lounge where people can gather and chat.

Confirmed that it exists in the Asian version. I saw that while randomly travelling around, not understanding one bit what was going on :D
Californian @ Jan 23rd 2009 5:53PM
Yeah I can attest to this. I was there with my Japanese friend, but it is really quite dull. The most interesting thing was the scrolling marquee with perhaps stock prices, but otherwise, it was empty and there was no coffee to be found. They should have a coffee dispenser on the PS3 for when you go there. That would be awesome. Or a USB compatible coffee maker.
LatinoLA1 @ Jan 23rd 2009 6:51PM
Yea i went there too there wasn't much people except for 2 or 3 others who where just walking around too i had no idea what the place was and the video was taking to long to load, so i left it needs something to it to make it better to go to...
Alex @ Jan 23rd 2009 10:39AM
They're probably gonna try to charge people for virtual coffee. LOL. Home has potential but it has been mishandled so badly, it's sad.
I hope they do something good with it for Sony's sake. But I'd rather they focus on delivering more games and upgrading they're online playing experience through the XMB.
Levi @ Jan 23rd 2009 10:54AM
I don't think it's being mishandled, it makes them monies. Home just doesn't appeal to people like you or me, regardless of how it's handled.
Patrick @ Jan 23rd 2009 10:46AM
@Alex
Have you not been paying attention to all the games that are upcoming for the PS3 this year, and beyond. It's so annoying when people act like Sony working on Home is somehow going to cause them to slack off on making games.
Gaucho @ Jan 23rd 2009 10:51AM
"From the looks of things, this is just a lounge where people can gather and chat."
Oh, fantastic. It will be a great change of pace from any other place in Home. The potential that I saw for Home before is kind of escaping me now.
Brian Spence @ Jan 23rd 2009 1:04PM
That's EXACTLY what I was going to say. Hey Sony, how about some functionality here? How about making what you already have better? How about making it all work!?!?
Roto13 @ Jan 23rd 2009 1:18PM
Yeah, that was my thought, too. "Another chat room. Hooray."
Omen_20 @ Jan 23rd 2009 10:34PM
My sentiments exactly! I'm tired of downloading new areas to look at. They've reinvented the Plaza twice now and they add in unappealing areas. They need to get Home in gear and tackle it one obstical at a time.
1) Get Game Launching done and standard for all upcoming games.
2) Work on activities and games for Home
3) Increase interaction and add in more interactive objects than just the bubble machine
4) Go crazy with items
5) Then worry about adding in more areas, more homes, etc.
PrinceAshitaka @ Jan 23rd 2009 10:57AM
Great, now we can wait in virtual queues for our virtual coffee!
Sarcasms aside, I think I'll be another great place where you can have the joy of Quincy-ing.
PrinceAshitaka @ Jan 23rd 2009 11:02AM
I think IT'll
Jerses @ Jan 23rd 2009 11:01AM
Thats not a cafe.... Its more like a gamestudio in the japan HOME. you can see the work space from the dudes that created hot shots and stuff. Thats why it has like a glass with no door because its only for the view.
Also there is a gold fox statue in the front..i hope they delete that crap...its ugly and got nothing to do with the decoration.
Jenny @ Jan 23rd 2009 11:14AM
It's the Famitsu Lounge in the japanese Home. And the Fox is their logo.

I didn't mean that I guess I should have said they should continue to focus on delivering good games.
Basically, I don't want Sony to lose focus on what's important, the games.
@ everyone
And another thing is that they should focus their R&D money on lowering the cost of the system, because we didn't sell nearly as much as the competition, which really sucks for exclusive games etc. Another thing that bugs me is that people complain all the time about games and when games like Resistance 2 and LBP come out they don't even break 1 million sales. This probably doesn't apply to anyone here since we are on PS3fanboy, but I think people in general should go out and buy more games.
ZeitgeistXIII @ Jan 23rd 2009 2:13PM
Well I bought those two games and only have LBP as my daughter likes it too. Resistance 2 was good for the singleplayer and looks amazign esp in forest. But the multiplayer ranking system was pretty lame. I do not have time for the huge amounts of rank needed to get upgrades. Whats the point in having ranks for a belt kit that does nothing but make your characters butt look bigger? So I traded it for SoCom and what an even bigger dissapointment. Looks great but 3rd person with no option for first just made it goofy and on Metal Gear solid same but the guys look like they are running in place at half speed I thought there was soemthing wrong with my game at first.
If they build good games I buy them I enjoy BF:BC very much and COD 4 was lots of fun. FEAR 2 looks and sounds better on the 360 in some areas like water effect with puddles and such but the bloom/diffuse on the flashlight looked nicer on the PS3 but twice I had sound issues that I had re-load last saved poitn to get it back so that one will be a toss up although I am thinking the 360 will be the choice.
But I am not going to waste money on lame games. To many good opportunities wasted on forcing 3rd person to show good graphics does not make for good gaming. Warhawk comes to mind on that one.
So it seems the 360 continues to offer better value and performance so far. Its a shame I really, really want to love the PS3 I like the web browser as I can stream Pandora and the folding is pretty cool. But the games are few and far between.
Marc @ Jan 23rd 2009 11:07AM
Home pretty much is one huge lounge in the first place, do people really need more space to sit and chat what that facility is already there.
Gonzo @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:29PM
Exactly. My wife is the only one who really runs around in Home (rarely) but every time she does she wishes there were some cabs to jack or that she could shoot the pathetic virgins who swarm her and every other female avatar.
Then she puts on Saints Row 2; well... lately, Fallout 3 even though there's no vehicles to jack.
C-Onor @ Jan 23rd 2009 11:13AM
That looks really cool.
david @ Jan 23rd 2009 11:30AM
Wonderful, another place to stand and do nothing.
Maverick Saturn @ Jan 23rd 2009 11:40AM
News just in:
Virtual food fights will be a new game added :D
andriy @ Jan 23rd 2009 11:45AM
i just don't use HOME, i opened it a couple of times, but i don't see the point, maybe its just me.
Phizzy @ Jan 23rd 2009 12:01PM
Yeah I visited this place in the Japanese home. There were two people standing in front of a tiny screen watching an interview about Final Fantasy on PSP. No-one would talk to me. Even when I offered sexual favours.
PB @ Jan 23rd 2009 12:52PM
i have been on it on japanese home and its crud lol!
Gambit07 @ Jan 23rd 2009 1:16PM
...and they give you the wrong order half the time, damn it.
Meghterb @ Jan 23rd 2009 1:35PM
Cool, I like checking new places in Home. I checked Far Cry 2 space yesterday it was good. Can`t wait for EA Games space ;)
The1stMJC @ Jan 23rd 2009 2:00PM
Just to tell everyone in the Asian version of the cafe it is completely empty all it has are some chairs and tables. So I assume it will be like that when we get it over here, sounds exciting.
FATHASUN @ Jan 23rd 2009 6:51PM
No one HOME when visiting ASIA? Could it be the time that you are visiting? Our afternoons are nights to them. On one of my insomniatic escapades I visited and there was a lot of activity. No where near American levels. But I did have an interesting time. Some even gave me some lessons in Japanese. Also I must agree with some. HOME has potential. But right now it is not as exciting as we would like. Dont be discouraged. It is of course a BETA! Smart move on Sonys part to label it as such.
acedoh @ Jan 23rd 2009 9:13PM
I find it funny how some of you constantly complain about HOME. I am not a big fan of it but I still believe it's a great feature. If you ever decide to visit you will notice there are plenty of people hanging out. It obvioulsy has a strong following. Many just like to hang out and socialize. HOME will add many features over the coming year but I don't think it will ever be what some of you want. I like many of you would rather spend my PS3 time playing games.
u guys just dont get it @ Jan 23rd 2009 10:17PM
u guys dont understand the purpose of home its supposed to be primarily a social networking application (not a game) its just like a 3d forum with lots of features u dont go to home to play games u go there to talk to people this room symbolizes just that arcarde is for mini games home sqaure is for wandering round and like a nexus for the all the other rooms (mostly) the mall is for shopping and ur house is for inviting friends over wht more do u want
SovereignMind @ Jan 24th 2009 1:56AM
From what I've heard about Sony's standpoint, Home is NOT a social network. Aside from that, all of your points are still absurd. Everyone gets it. It's just mind-numbingly redundant. Game designers build houses and cafes and more, only to be destroyed, or to pass through at one point in the game. That's the purpose of building anything is to either admire it and move on to see something else, or to destroy it. Home, however, builds that you will see endlessly, which would be fine if there was actually an endless amount to it. The things they build instead are used for the purposes of offering advertising, selling useless virtual items, and social networking, which ironically they deny.
Don't get me wrong, it's okay. My main gripes are these:
Really, truly insignificant for social networking. No real relationships can be built by merely establishing a form of communication with deceptive appearances through building avatars (which can be mildly entertaining in and of itself).
Horribly racist, sexist, obnoxious individuals (just to be expected, I guess). I honestly had no idea how open and proud many people were to be living before the turning of the stone age.
The fact that it's still Beta and there's very little variety in useless virtual items to spend real valuable cash on.
Well, that's it. The bowling and pool games are done very well and I actually enjoy playing them. Still, that's okay only for about half an hour...a month.
kane @ Jan 24th 2009 12:06AM
what i want is a tv and mp3 player so if i invite people to my personal space i can share my music and videos with them that would be cool
Martin hald @ Jan 24th 2009 10:31AM
What!? Another chat-room?! Why can't we order virtual irish-coffee from a virtual bartender..!! lol!
