Resistance 2 getting 1.40 patch on Monday
Many of the bugs related to saving, progression and Trophy accumulation will be fixed in a 1.40 patch available to all Resistance 2 players this Monday (1/26). For example, some players may have had their character data mysteriously reset. Those players can take comfort in knowing that all their lost progress will be restored -- and that any additional XP earned since will still count. Those that acquired the 10,000 kills necessary for the Killing Machine Trophy will automatically unlock it once the 1.40 patch is applied.
Here are the patch notes:

"Stalker movement enabled in cooperative games"
Surprised that wasn't mentioned in the article. It's a big thing!!
Tyler @ Jan 23rd 2009 8:17PM
I think that is one of the biggest things in this update. I may just go through some more coop to see this in action!
Too bad they are not fixing the medic damage upgrade. It really sucks.
The Pirate @ Jan 23rd 2009 12:37PM
w00t!!! I always found it weird that the stalker stayed perfectly still in Co-Op :D:D
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 23rd 2009 1:03PM
yea I thought it was a limitation of some sort......that good tho.....now if Only the Marauders would move around......
WhiteShield @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:17PM
good thing they added that! all you needed was a spec ops and a soldier with his shield up. feeding shield to the soldier the whole time and no one gets hurt

"Parties are prevented from matchmaking into free-for-all Deathmatch games"
So now i cant play deathmatch with my friends?? great just awsome.
kentawilson @ Jan 23rd 2009 12:22PM
You can play Deathmatch with your party. You just can't take a party into matchmaking a free for all game.
Dustin @ Jan 23rd 2009 2:38PM
The reason I see behind the developers disabling this option is so players don't stat pad by filling up a party and taking turns getting kills or whatnot since they'd be the only ones in the FFA. It limits abuse, in other words, and I think it's fair.

"Balanced the amount of XP gained by the Medic class in cooperative games"
What does that mean? More XP or less? Medic was the fastest XP gainer for me. If they're cutting it back, I'm glad it's already maxed out.
Kodros @ Jan 23rd 2009 1:35PM
It's going to be less XP.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jan 23rd 2009 2:00PM
I'm already level 28, so it won't matter to me much, but I'm not sure the medic needs balancing.
If you've ever played with a high level group where the Spec Ops don't act like pinheads, you may have found out that the medic can easily be the LEAST earner in the group already.
It all depends on who you play with.
Really, they should fix the burning car exploit and leave the rest alone.
KinjiroSSD @ Jan 23rd 2009 5:18PM
I agree. In the beginner levels, Medics earn insane amouts of XP but once Soldiers and Specs get their upgrades, there isn't much healing to be done.
True_Darknight @ Jan 23rd 2009 12:37PM
No its called.. you cant matchmake with other people into Free-for-all... but if your party wants to free-for-all between you all.. well go rite ahead
SourceJR @ Jan 23rd 2009 12:44PM
yea but me and my friends like jumping into a game and killing each other and other people.

Did they fix the freezing? did they fix corrupted data? if not i don't care what they added.
Kodros @ Jan 23rd 2009 1:46PM
Dunno, but I've been nailed by the corrupted data crap after putting in about 55 hours and I haven't touched it since. Now that they are giving me my levels back, I might actually play it again. I loved Co-Op. It reminds me of the Co-Op mode in UT2004 where you have to survive multiple swarms of enemies.

bout damn time........
and I was wondering why I hadnt got my Survivor medal......I havent died in my last 50 Co-op matches

I think it will still take me a real long time to get that last 10,000 kills trophy...like forever. Stalker movement is a real cool deal though.
The Sawyer family @ Jan 23rd 2009 1:52PM
This game is bad@ss, can't wait till monday. Thanks Insomniac.
blakepro @ Jan 23rd 2009 2:36PM
They better have fixed the problem of split screen co-op stats not saving...
Hyams @ Jan 23rd 2009 2:44PM
That's coming.
The reason it's not saving at the moment is because the PS3 doesn't currently support the ability to log into multiple PSN accounts at once, and as all the stats are saved online, this obviously makes it impossible for player 2 to level up.
An upcoming firmware will fix this though. Insomniac have said its coming 'soon'.
blakepro @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:55PM
It seems that you can do this in Little Big Planet already and that came out before Resistance 2.
I just hope they fix it soon.
Wrathbringer @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:32PM
The PS3 CAN log in multiple accounts at once, it's just that the way that R2 saves data (onto the hard drive as opposed to online) makes it impossible to access your account information from another PS3. Insomniac did say that if Sony issued a firmware update that allowed this they'd bring it in, we just have to wait for that to happen.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Jan 23rd 2009 6:39PM
The linked article mentions that Insomniac was waiting for a firmware update that allowed this. And they say they just got it (presumably 2.6), so the feature will be coming at some point, but not in this release.
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 23rd 2009 9:51PM
I thought LBP was signed in on the other PSN name as well but turns out it doesnt....they say it doesnt save any stats online at this momment meaning trophies only are capable for the main account......
the way they ar etrying to do it in R2 will save the XP and kill info, etc on the R2 Servers, so that when the player signs into R2 from their account then it will update all the stats and give them any trophies that deal with server information...
RagingStormX @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:07PM
There is also a glitch were people are being awared the elite soldier medal and yet they haven't got the 10 kills in a row ribbon to prove it. And the maruder glitch were you get 5 to 6 marauder kill count for ever 1 true marauder kill you got. Anyways...this update is well needed and good for the ones still playing this game, I only have about 600 kills more to go then I get my platinum trophy for this game, and I don't see myself playing this game again......ever!
PHilo @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:44PM
"Those that acquired the 10,000 kills necessary for the Killing Machine Trophy will automatically unlock it once the 1.40 patch is applied." What does that mean? Will I get the Killing Machine Trophy automatically by 1.40 patch if I don't achieve that trophy yet?
Wrathbringer @ Jan 23rd 2009 4:35PM
It means that if you have 10,000 kills and you don't have the trophy then this patch will fix that. If you don't have the 10,000 kills then you don't get the trophy.
Philo @ Jan 23rd 2009 5:16PM
Darn...long way to reach 10,000 kills! why why why why why why why 10,000 kills! i have no time to do that!
kentuckyfried @ Jan 23rd 2009 7:01PM
Correct me if I'm wrong but is this...the first retroactive trophy for any game on the ps3?! I thought it couldn't be done...!
linebeginstoblur @ Jan 23rd 2009 8:26PM
@kentuckyfried
Warhawk had retroactive trophies. There were basically two types of trophies: Those where you have to do specific tasks in-game and then those that are just based on your online stats and medals. The latter of the two were retroactive.
For example, Hat Trick (3 flag captures in single round of CTF) is not retroactive, but Chief Sergeant (Achieve rank of Chief Sergeant) is.
M16-A2 @ Jan 23rd 2009 3:55PM
@Hyams: This is my first comment on this site but what are you talking about? LittleBigPlanet has had this feature since the beta was available so it's not Sony's fault this time, they're just using it as an excuse. But oh well there are plenty other games I can waste my money on for good co-op games like COD, etc...
PSN: Aggie_CEO @ Jan 23rd 2009 9:53PM

when are they going to let your guest keep there xp after they quit and come back another day. my friend gets ticked every time he has to start over
willxcore @ Jan 23rd 2009 8:19PM
I have like 27% trophies in this game. It shows that when I view my own trophies but when I compare trophies with someone else it shows that I have like 6%, I've confirmed that others see this the same way when they compare with me. I hope this gets fixed in the patch.
PSN: John-Paul-Jones @ Jan 23rd 2009 8:37PM
I'm blind if I haven't seen this fix in the list mentioned above yet, but I like to stick to the same party after a match in Co-op mode. Some of the people are fun and very team friendly and I would like to stay with the same people but different maps. Please, Insomniac, I would like this feature implemented!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!
ElLobo @ Jan 23rd 2009 10:17PM
Yeah, I agree with John. I hate that after every matchmaking round I get kicked back out to the main menu. Just pick another one, same as the last. If I want to switch, give me a few little time to quit out. Just like Call of Duty, Halo,...hell just like Resistance: Fall of Man.
By the way, I just picked up Little Big Planet. Traded an extra copy of Resistance 2 for it. Can't wait to try it out!
kentuckyfried @ Jan 24th 2009 12:51AM
If it's one thing that MGO does right (it does many things well and other games would do well to borrow those features), it's the ability to tag people in the lobby as "friends" so that you can find them in other rounds and then jump directly into those rounds as well.
I suppose this could lead to alot of abuse (say, somebody has it in for you and follows you around to TK you), but I've not heard of any such thing thus far since the game's release last year.
jman2020 @ Jan 24th 2009 6:45AM
this doesn't make any note of single player trophy issues. Like not getting "master spy" after getting all 20 intelligence cases. I personally have done that twice and still have nothing to show for it... :-\
airforcerida @ Jan 26th 2009 8:06AM
I did the update and I patched it my character was a lv 14 spec ops and now its still lv 4 what the heck is up with that They better have an emergency Matain. because when people log on their going to find their charcters same lv.
KiLLerFeaR @ Jan 26th 2009 11:14AM
the only bad thing about that update is the LAARK ammo. Its my favourite weapon. :(
dave @ Jan 26th 2009 12:19PM
Kudos to insomniac for keeping up the support. I remember when I first got the game, I wouldn't play competitive mulitplayer because the second of two games after matchmaking was always unbalanced with the losing team leaving, that was fixed, and the competitive fixes here are both good.
The continued support makes me think DLC is in the future.
AltCtrlPwn @ Jan 26th 2009 10:16PM
Awesome, now the class that doesn't get much better as it levels up gets nerfed. From an average 25K+ experience per game to less than 10K; is there any incentive for using Medic at all now?
Krall @ Jan 26th 2009 10:15PM
Looks like they fix some stuffs, but now i cant play my ps2 dualshock with adaptor. >_< they better fix this crap and i dont like buying another controller........
