Amazon selling 80GB PS3 for $349
Don't you hate deals where you have to search for coupons, mail in a rebate, or jump through fire? Don't fret, because this amazon.com deal is pretty simple. You can get the 80GB PS3 system for $349 -- that's $50 off retail price. And best of all, you don't have to do anything other than add it to your cart.
Seeing a new lower price tag on the PS3 makes us happy. As we've stated time and time again, we think price is the only significant hurdle PS3 must tackle right now. Hopefully, this Amazon.com sale is a sign of things to come.
[Thanks, Steven C.!]

Sounds like a good deal.
Is this price drop here to stay or just temporary?
Night Elve @ Jan 27th 2009 9:13AM
Well I think that by lowering the price even just 50 Dlls that could really work for SONY.
Cash @ Jan 27th 2009 1:28PM
Smells a bit too much like "too little too late" to me.
It's still 50 dollars more then the best selling model Xbox, and 100 dollars more then the Wii. BluRay isn't going to push units guys, your unit was supposed to push BluRay, remember? If you're going to compete then compete already, but this half assed business just isn't going to fly.
TVGenius @ Jan 27th 2009 9:17AM
Also, Wal-Mart gives you a $50 gift card if you buy one right now. Also, our Circuit City's selling them for 10% off right now... if they make it to 20% I'll be jumping on another one...
LordNitsud @ Jan 27th 2009 9:27AM
I work for a retailer, and we havn't seen any drop in price. I hope this is a sign of things to come, Sony needs the help.
Jamaicangmah @ Jan 28th 2009 2:35PM
Does anyone know if amazon still has new 60gb PS3's?
Harold @ Jan 27th 2009 9:41AM
Dell is selling them for $340.
SAGExSDX @ Jan 27th 2009 10:08AM
yes but Dell also charges tax. Amazon in most places doesn't charge tax
Alijah Green @ Mar 17th 2009 9:21AM
price drop and some more games
acedoh @ Jan 27th 2009 9:55AM
Hmmm.... This sounds like a price drop. It's a good thing if it's for real. I think with Killzone 2 coming this could be the boost the PS3 needs.
sk8monroe81 @ Jan 27th 2009 2:09PM
no, its amazon's deal of the day only.
DonGeronimo @ Jan 27th 2009 10:43AM
As usual Sony does things half-assed, temporary price drop without telling anyone. These deals have been going on all through November and December and they did not help PS3 sales a bit just ask the folks at NPD...
Elven_Star @ Apr 26th 2009 6:05AM
Great, I might pick one up.
jetsaredim @ Jan 27th 2009 10:46AM
Figures I just bought mine 2 weeks ago. Stupid Amazon is saying that they won't honor the price drop since it's a Deal of the Day.
Jesse @ Jan 27th 2009 10:51AM
Then buy another one and return it back to amazon with your old order number. Simple as pie... it just might cost your $20 to ship, but you'll still be saving $30!
sk8monroe81 @ Jan 27th 2009 2:11PM
amazon doesnt really do price matches anymore,
they used to do them within 30 days and dropped that policy.
LokeSTL @ Jan 27th 2009 10:58AM
I would buy one in a heartbeat if it was BC. No BC, no sale. Period.
jetsaredim @ Jan 27th 2009 11:01AM
I'm pretty sure they discontinued that feature, so unless you buy one used you're pretty much out of luck.
LokeSTL @ Jan 27th 2009 11:07AM
Yes, they discontinued that feature, That was the point of my comment. No BC, no sale.
Popfrogs @ Jan 27th 2009 12:10PM
I doubt you were gonna buy one anyway, since you didn't buy any of the 3 previous models that included BC.
LokeSTL @ Jan 27th 2009 12:21PM
I own a 60gb. I'd like to buy another for my kids. My kids, like me, still like to play their PS2 titles. If they would return BC I would buy another system, regardless of whether it was on sale or not.
erx3 @ Jan 27th 2009 12:14PM
I hope it is a sign for things to come.
My thoughts: Amazon knows something. Maybe the $100 price drop is coming. They sell the PS3 for $350 now. It looks like a great deal for consumers, providing a massive increase in sales for Amazon.
Don't know about you, but if I were in the market to buy a PS3, I'd go with Amazon at $350 (plus no tax, free shipping).
Random thought kinda related: Sony uses the Super Bowl commercial (that was rumored) to announce a $100 price drop. I could see some good coming out of that.
Popfrogs @ Jan 27th 2009 12:27PM
Can you imagine the nuclear explosion that would be a Killzone2 superbowl commercial plus an ending with a $300 PS3?
Maybe I overvalue Sony's weak marketing skills or the public's desire to buy expensive electronics in the middle of a depression, but hey, it's a thought.
erx3 @ Jan 27th 2009 12:45PM
I would love to see that. I'm sure $3 million for 30 seconds would be nothing for Sony. I mean, just sell a few more t-shirts in Home to make up for it....
sk8monroe81 @ Jan 27th 2009 2:15PM
erx3- no your wrong. amazon has lowered the price of the ps3 on 'deal of the day' about 2 or more other times before this. amazon can always sell an item for lower than a store for obvious reasons, including lower overhead/expenses.
& running 1 ad would do no good at all. a company usually has to run a great deal of 30 second ad's to have any effect. probably 10-20 times during the superbowl.
erx3 @ Jan 27th 2009 3:02PM
@ sk8monroe81
Nope you're wrong. I'm well aware of Amazon's abilities to sell an item for a lower price. You missed my point. My comment included such words as "I hope" and "maybe".
Wrong again. Running an ad would do very good. Do you realize people watch the Super Bowl only to watch the commercials? Name one other event/show people tune in to do that. 93+ million watched the Super Bowl last year. You honestly think one 30 second ad will have no effect on people who are specifically watching commercials? Even if you have no interest in the product, you are now informed about it.
10-20 times during the Super Bowl??? You kidding me? 3 million bucks for 30 seconds and you expect someone to run a commercial 10-20 times during the Super Bowl because that is the only way it will have an effective on someone. Shall I do the math for you or do I need to show you that once is all it takes for an event like the Super Bowl? Advertising opportunities do exist after the Super Bowl. Much cheaper opportunities....

That is a good price, it cost like $500 in Denmark
Lawnarjax @ Jan 27th 2009 12:42PM
Over at Dell they are selling for $339.99 with free shipping. With my other discounts I got one shipped for $325.00 SWEET!
mrbutler14 (PSN ID) @ Jan 27th 2009 12:49PM
The old 'I will never buy one unless they put BC in again' is getting very old. How many people really use it very often. Man, i bought a PS3 for a reason, to play PS3 games
blai @ Jan 27th 2009 5:38PM
Exactly, I haven't touched my ps2 games in a couple years.
And I have 25 ps3 games in my collection, half of which I have yet to complete.
Who needs BC.......???
greg @ Jan 27th 2009 1:24PM
Totally agree mrbutler14... i'm glad they took BC out, i have it in mine and have used it once. It doesn't work that well. If i was still wanting to play PS2 games, i'd just buy another PS2. Besides PS2 games look like crap on a HDTV.
Rocks @ Jan 27th 2009 1:29PM
hmmmmm... interesting...
UNSCleric @ Jan 27th 2009 1:29PM
It's the only hurdle besides having no good games and having most multi-platform games run badly on it.
kidhero1000 @ Jan 27th 2009 4:30PM
Yes, and plus having to pay $50 to play online, disc scratching, and red ring of death every couple of months
DRMthe8r @ Jan 27th 2009 4:04PM
Hmm. Click on the link and the price now shows $399. Must have been a short term deal.
Watersbr @ Jan 27th 2009 4:24PM
Actually the deal got sold out! Impressive.
The Ps3 is the 6th top selling on the VG session on Amazon!
erox @ Jan 27th 2009 9:50PM

Bugz @ Jan 27th 2009 10:58PM

kmfdm @ Jan 28th 2009 4:34AM
Thanks to the weak pound just goto Amazon.co.uk in the EU for a almost 100€ discount!
Mike @ Jan 28th 2009 7:53AM
Anyone have an unused ps3 game + 2 blu-rays $100 off coupon code for amazon? If so, please send e-mail to mcshack@gmail.com
The deal ends 1/31/09 and I'm not sure that you can still get it since amazon sold out of the ps3 game consoles before I could buy one yesterday, but I am still going to try to get something discounted if possible. Thanks in advance. Mike.
