Go figure. Although American players have been able to enjoy
Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix for quite some time now, European PS3 owners have been left in the dark. We've heard the cries before: "blame Sony,"
they'd say.
thePSN.co.uk had a chat with Capcom UK
Leo Tan [
Update: Leo Tan has
denied making the comments, while thePSN has professed to name-checking "the wrong person at Capcom."] to find out why SCEE is denying release of the game. According to the alleged representative, Capcom has already submitted the game to SCEE twice. However, SCEE is declining release of the game, noting "faults and other problems." Supposedly, the game must be "redone."
Capcom is working on yet another version to submit to SCEE "within three weeks." We find it quite strange that, in spite of a
successful release in the US, Sony's European counterpart has become the sole roadblock in this game's worldwide release. Certainly, there must be
some reason for the constant delays.
[Thanks, Alex E.!]

I'm sorry, I know this is unrealated, but is it possible to still post a trophy guide?
scratch @ Jan 27th 2009 6:31PM
That sucks for both Capcom and the brave gamers of Europe. Is the last sentence of this article meant to imply that the lack trophies is what is causing SCEE to reject the game? That doesn't make any sense though, since it was initially submitted for release before the new year (which is when games were supposed to have been required to have trophies), and that doesn't seem to fall in with the "faults or other problems" line.
RadarTrap @ Jan 27th 2009 6:40PM
A Capcom rep has already stated that they are not being forced to support trophies since they first submitted the game in 2008.
More likely it's the buggy netcode that so many people are complaining about on the capcom-unity forums
Jampirow @ Jan 27th 2009 6:54PM
Yes, but since they have to submit another version now, wouldn't they need to add trophies?
I don't know how everything works, but doesn't this new version count as a 2009 game?
scratch @ Jan 27th 2009 8:29PM
that was going to be my next question, was it perhaps related to network issues? I haven't played it myself yet (no time, let alone money) but I know the (360 only) beta was rife with network issues. so are those not really resolved then?
shalter24 @ Jan 27th 2009 7:00PM
It would be awesome if SCEE was forcing Capcom to put trophies in the game, but as others have already stated that isn't likely.
The online play on this game is terrible. I don't understand why every review I've ever read for this game talks about how wonderful and flawless the online play is. Constant "Connection Lost" errors and terrible game and chat lag make trying to play this game online a exercise in frustration. If this is why SCEE is blocking the game, good for them. Maybe if Capcom ever gets it right they can submit that version to other territories as well.
Nanakita_Hashiriya @ Jan 29th 2009 2:46AM
I thought I was the only one with connection problems because I live in a country where it was not released (Japan).
SoulBlade @ Jan 27th 2009 7:07PM
Maybe it's an issue related to Multi language support? Beats me.
Martin hald @ Jan 27th 2009 7:11PM
this is beginning to look like a VERY early april fools..
- And to sony.. It's not funny 5 months before april.. please stop it will you..?
Nathanical @ Jan 27th 2009 7:14PM
US psn cards and ebay are getting very tempting...
RadarTrap @ Jan 28th 2009 12:38AM
You might as well go ahead. I gave up waiting and did it.
If they fix the buggy netcode for the PAL release then they'll release it as a patch for the US version, Capcom has said that online play won't be region locked so you'll be able to play against people with the PAL version, and there's going to be no DLC. The way I see it there's no drawbacks other than the hassle of having to set up a US account...
It's also worth noting that while there are lots of people complaining about the stability of online play the arcade mode and local multiplayer are bug-free (and awesome) in my experience.
Greyline108 @ Jan 27th 2009 7:15PM
Actually, the US version of the game does have more than its fair share of glitches, especially when playing online. My guess more than anything is that they're being forced to fix those before release in Europe.
christian @ Jan 27th 2009 7:16PM
PFFT! Who cares now. SFIV is just around the corner. Nice work SCEE!
matt @ Jan 27th 2009 7:20PM
Wow. Having three divisions to submit to is toally ridiculous, can anyone explain to me why the need for this?
But I got too tired with waiting here in the UK so I bought a PSN card on ebay. Stop waiting and buy a psn card. we shouldn't have to, but I wouldn't put up with this anymore if I were everyone else here.
edge @ Jan 27th 2009 7:57PM
This game is pretty buggy, so hopefully SCEE is forcing them to fix the bugs before they release it abroad. Trophy support, which was hinted at prior to release, would also be nice (and insanely easy, I doubt it's hard to add since the XBL version has achievements).
Mana Knight @ Jan 27th 2009 8:05PM
I'm not surprised at all by this. The game has a few major issues that should have been fixed before release. When you play online with other people, there's NO possible way to back out of the lobby when you want to quit (whether you are the host or player). The way my friends and I had to quit was to wait for a game to start, then quit game while fighting. It's stupid and SCEA should have rejected it. The menus are also kind of laggy.
Josh @ Jan 27th 2009 8:05PM
Wow, no one here has an avatar?
RIP R.L. Causton - YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Jan 27th 2009 10:37PM
LOL
No kidding. They really need to fix the avatar issue. I had to submit this same picture nearly 25 times before it was accepted. It still randomly switches to my old one as well.
PS3Lee @ Jan 28th 2009 3:41AM
It took about 2 hours for mine to accept the picture, then it kept switching to the old one, but now it seems to be stable.
Vincent @ Jan 27th 2009 8:13PM
The game is buggy as hell, although a good game, I can see why SCEE would deny it over and over. I'm VERY happy to tell you all though: SF4 uses a different netcode, completely different from that of SSF2THDR =)
Ze20SyL @ Jan 28th 2009 12:01PM
This game sucks ! Why ??? Because the lake of challenge,no original bonus stages as the arcade game,no scores and name entry, all the settings about damages aren't here,no introductions like the arcade game,no trophies,Akuma is totally invincible even on easy mode ! And about the online part,I can tell you that SFHD is a beautiful joke...SFHD is a frustrating game in every ways !
RagingStormX @ Jan 27th 2009 8:27PM
I agree with christian....SFIV is soon upon us, don't think I will be playing this much once SFIV comes out.
Alphathon @ Jan 27th 2009 8:36PM
I really don't think this is a problem with SCEE but rather a problem with SCEA for allowing buggy games through the net. It's that kind of thing that makes a lot of games these days buggy on release with the "we can patch it later" mentalitly. On a semi-related note, when SOCOM finally comes out over here it will be fully patched etc, whereas over there in the U.S. you had to deal with all the bugs with the netcode among other things
Popfrogs @ Jan 27th 2009 10:56PM
Can you blame them though? They can't 100% QA everything because it seems like they're undermanned.
We beg for games so they give us to them quick after rushing through QA. Then we complain that they're buggy/broken. How can they win?
YobRenoops @ Jan 28th 2009 4:39AM
Exactly what I've been saying for ages now and echoes something a Sony Insider said a few months ago. The SCEE submission process is much more stringent. We can only home that when all 3 are brought together they use the SCEE model.
Alphathon @ Jan 28th 2009 5:40AM
I certainly don't blame them for it and understand their possition, but if they were just a little more strict a la SCEE then maybe we wouldn't have the problem in the first place as companies would get it right before even trying to submit to them.
Boudy @ Jan 27th 2009 9:43PM
That's great! They should block it, it's filled with bugs.It is the only game i have that constantly causes my PS3 to hang, and sometimes even crashes.UK users should consider themself fortunate that Sony UK is sparing them from this buggy title.Atleast Sony UK have some standards, more than i can say for Sony America, that seemed to let any crappola title be released.Where is the scrutiny Sony America? and most importantly, where is the patch Capcom.Sigh, i wish i can get my money back.
topbillin85 @ Jan 27th 2009 9:43PM
that sucks. i was hoping on hurricane kicking some of you limeys.
RIP R.L. Causton - YOU WILL ALWAYS BE MISSED (PSN johnnynumber5) @ Jan 27th 2009 10:39PM
I don't know the reason that the game is being delayed but let me just say the online component is not completely broken. It has its issues (for sure) but I can usually get in a game easily. The big issue is with the in game lag. My biggest issue is how cheap everyone is playing the game. It's damn near unplayable at times.
Emyrs @ Jan 27th 2009 11:00PM
unfortunately there are a bunch of bugs that are not being taken care of. I would bet this is the reason why SCEE keeps rejecting the game. The Forums at capcomunity are complaining about balance of characters, and bad online support.
People were wondering if they were using SFIITHD to test network capabilities for SFIV. but no response has been made to all the complaints, so its a question as to if its even really being supported.
hopefully all this hoopla with SCEE with get the bugs fixed for all.
hnbeanz @ Jan 28th 2009 10:23AM
Meh!
Nedakh @ Jan 28th 2009 1:19AM
I hope they issue trophies, this game absolutely should have them. Capcom sucks sometimes, and that Mark character what a diva. Major attitude on the official ps blog about Capcom supporting PS3 more than anyone else.
DemiRonin @ Jan 28th 2009 1:28AM
Dude... I have SF remix, tekken5, and DBZ, and SF remix is by far the most buggy fighting game I have. I expect better from capcom.
On another note it takes like 4 different button presses to get an online match going in SF...worst platform ever which is why i'm skipping SF4.
Hojken @ Jan 28th 2009 3:58AM
I am starting to think CapCom is at blame here and not Sony. They hade huge problems with the European version of Age of Booty which at one point (after patch 1.01) went completely broken - you couldn't even start the game.
The version that is out now, 1.02, is the same one as the initial one, 1.00, which is very buggy - especially when it comes to network code.
Seems like Capcom don't really know how to make online games - I guess that is why the don't include online play in Bionic Commando: Rearmed!!!
moidsch @ Jan 28th 2009 2:29PM
SFIIHD is the only PS3 game that managed to lock up my system so bad I had to do a hard poweroff.
