This week's episode of Pulse (available on the PlayStation Store) revealed the top 10 games and movies downloaded off the PlayStation Store for January 2009:
- Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix
- Mortal Kombat II
- Magic Ball
- Cuboid
- JEOPARDY!
- Linger in Shadows
- Crash Commando
- PAIN
- LUMINES Supernova
- High Velocity Bowling
It appears fighting games are what PS3 players want. The PSN versions of the classic 2D fighters,
Street Fighter II and
Mortal Kombat II take the top spots this month. We're glad to see that both
Magic Ball and
Cuboid are doing well -- these indie developers went exclusively to the PlayStation Network, and their casual games are doing quite well.
Top 10 movie downloads for January 2009:
- Max Payne (Unrated)
- Babylon AD (Uncut)
- Mirrors (Unrated)
- Step Brothers
- Resident Evil: Degeneration
- Get Smart
- Pride and Glory
- My Best Friend's Girl (Unrated)
- Dead Space: Downfall
- The Women
The PlayStation video service seems to have found its niche, with video game movies taking up 3 of the top 10 movies in January. Perhaps you feel less guilty watching a bad movie on the PlayStation Store than in a theater? Maybe that'll explain why Max Payne takes the top spot.

The Mortal Kombat 2 is just the original? Or is it a remade version like Street Fighter 2?
Orex @ Feb 12th 2009 10:13PM

crash commando and lumines should be higher. much higher.
Levi @ Feb 13th 2009 9:15AM
I really hope they give Crash Commando the DLC treatment. It's the perfect candidate. New maps, modes, and weapons could all add so much more fun to the already awesome game.

Nice screenshot... obviously from build 001, since the health gauges and super meters don't look anything like that...

Looks like there's a lot of demand for Street Fighter and I'm glad indie devs are finding their audience.

Advice to developers: Charge $5 for your game (if not at first, after a few months) and it will continually sell shitloads just like Mortal Kombat 2 is.
Devin @ Feb 13th 2009 12:46PM
I agree,
Why the hell is Super Stardust HD still going for $10? Why is PAIN still $10? Seriously. Drop the price or add in extra DLC, and you will sell more from people who did not believe and still do not believe those games (even with trophies) are worth $10.

I'm loving NHL 3on3! - Except when on your own, against 2+ people who keep checking your keeper and shooting from miles away.
My classic Mortal Kombat II now has online!? - FTW!
But when oh when is Europe getting Street Fighter HD?!?!? - Cannot wait for that, so jealous of you guys over the pond! Come on SCEE get your bloody finger out!
Steve @ Feb 13th 2009 8:17AM
I'm happy to see Linger In Shadows received good position (not sarcasm).
Valr @ Feb 13th 2009 11:14AM
No Super Stardust HD? Interesting..
Andrew Yoon @ Feb 13th 2009 6:25PM
Well, that game is pretty old now. That came out pretty close to launch.
