Resistance Retribution uses mo-cap technology
Motion capture is the kind of tech reserved for big-budget PS3 games. Resistance Retribution doesn't care that it's coming to PSP -- it's a big-budget game and proud of it.
IGN continues its week-long look at the upcoming PSP-exclusive, and the latest video reveals the motion capture technology that powers the animation in Bend's latest shooter. We're sure you know how this stuff works: guys wear tight black suits covered in white balls that get tracked by a computer. It's oh-so-familiar, but we're thrilled to see it used in a PSP game.

Pretty sweet, I enjoyed the demo.
I just wish they included tagging on the bulleye, it would be sweet to just tag a enemy and fire blindly behind cover.
Did anybody notice that on the bridge where you fight 3 hybrids and two titans you can go to the left and actually hang off the ledge? Felt a lot like Uncharted to me.

ya, the demo was pretty interesting. but the tag would be a little redundant other wise because of auto aim IMO. the auger was a little cheap against that mech thing at the end though, just go stand by the ammo and fire with a shield up. the demo did have its glitches like your head dissapearing when you would sometimes scope
slycooper_rocker @ Feb 19th 2009 8:48PM
yeah i noticed that about the auger too. its insanely overpowered just like it was in R2. i took down that T-rex boss without ever going outside or using the rocket launcher. i just stood on the stairway and shot at it then next thing i know, i got the trophy.
arrness @ Feb 19th 2009 11:46PM
first, i dont feel the tagging would be redundant because auto aiming exposes you while firing behind cover wont
also i wouldnt really consider the head thing a glitch
and the augur is very overpowered yes i agree. I just unloaded my clip on the boss and he was out.
I REALLY like the cover system

Whats the point of making big budget games? I mean, they are gonna get pirated to hell and back while they bitch about it.

motion capture has been around in games for a while now.. I wonder if the costs nowadays are anywhere as high as they used to be.
mgsrocks1 @ Feb 19th 2009 9:22PM
I think the costs are still high today. Especially when game developers are trying to use the same techonology used in movies in video games. I'm pleasantly surprised that the Bend is using a tech only seen on consoles on the PSP. Pretty cool.

The demo is pretty sweet for this game. Probably going to buy it day 1. There are actually lots of PSP games I plan on buying as thee have been a number of quality titles.
Prinny (haven't got it yet)
DJ Max Fever
Star Ocean I & II
Yuushu 30 second hero
Hammerin Hero
Loco Roco 2
Phantasy Star Portable
Samurai Showdown Anthology
Patapon 2
It's going to be a good next few months for PSP games. Quality not quantity!

Hahaha, Emmanuel Roth, he sounds so french that I had trouble understanding what he was saying (even though I'm french).
As for motion capture, well, it's great : I like how it feels "handmade". I mean, the characters moves aren't made by someone on a computer, but by actual actors.
