Noby Noby Girl hits moon, unlocks new level for all
After four days and a combined length of nearly 400 million meters, Noby Noby Boy's GIRL has finally reached the moon. This means that a new level has been unlocked for everyone (yes, everyone) who owns the quirky PSN title. Bizarre as it is, the new moon level features space-fish and space-cows to gobble up; it also has flying saucers.
This is the first unlockable world for Noby Noby Boy and there will be more to come. So what's the next stop for GIRL, our lovable pink spaceworm? Well, she goes off to stretch where no GIRL has stretched before: Mars. How many days do you think it will take this time?
[Thanks Johan K.!]

That's really cool--I had no idea that GIRL was actually going to arrive somewhere. I have a question to those that play this game: I've noticed that the length continues to grow the longer you just sit around. What is the length tied to? I thought it was eating, then stretching, but it seems to be unrelated when you report to GIRL. I am not really sure what the point of eating everything is. And why does everything sometimes get pooped out the back when you stretch, and other times it doesn't? I've only played a little bit, but am curious about what others have figured out. Maybe I should play it more.

The length you report is cumulative. So if you stretch 50m and then shrink back to normal, and stretch 100m afterwards, you'll report 150m. By simply moving, BOY has a tendency to stretch at least a little.
q3c @ Feb 23rd 2009 5:59PM
While your actual BOY length grows and shrinks, the reported one only counts the growth. I just found a contraption on the moon which is basically a vertical spring rotating around its axis. I tied the BOY around it and now he is on a ride of a lifetime. As the spring swings him around, the forces make him grow and shrink.
While the BOY length is oscillating between 350-400m, the reported length gets steadily "pumped" with new meters. While I am typing here, he already earned good 10,000m!

Yeah, in addition to the deliberate stretching that you can do, every little tiny wiggle will stretch Noby Noby Boy by a little bit.
Imagine holding a slinky in your hands and moving it idly back and forth from hand to hand... its length will continually change just a little bit as it expands and shrinks, right? Same thing for Noby Noby Boy. The "length" that you report to GIRL is the sum of all the expansions, with *NONE* of the shrinking. Since BOY is basically a big Slinky, simply walking him around on the map will add to your total length.

i did my part, however small, and somehow earned some trophies

Epic!
I am positively surprised, that the actual length required was accurate (on average the distance between Earth and Moon is 384,403,000 meters).
Mars is next. According to the Interwebs, the Earth-Mars distance varies between Minimum of 56,000,000,000m to Maximum 399,000,000,000m.
That's 1000 times more than the Moon, and I doubt the user contributions will continue to grow (in fact they will most likely slow down after initial mania). The game better introduce some ways of gaining length fast, because with current tempo (and we now have tons of new excited players) it is going to take 4000 days... That's almost 11 years!

Call me crazy, but this little "game" is actually pretty entertaining.
Is there something wrong with me?
crazypenguin @ Feb 23rd 2009 6:01PM
My thoughts exactly, but its one of the best games i played in a while, which is really sad that i've payed over 400 dollars in games this past year , and yet its the 5 dollar one that i think i'll play over and over again.
rohan @ Feb 23rd 2009 5:59PM
i have no idea what this game is about by looking at the gameplay o____O
can sum1 plz explain?
q3c @ Feb 23rd 2009 6:05PM
The game cannot be simply explained. It is more of an interactive playground with players around the world working together towards a common goal (grow their BOYS as much as they can in order to make GIRL reach new planets).
It is lots of fun, and at the low price the game has it is practically a crime not to buy it. Games like this are what makes PS3 a very, very unique console.

It's okay if you're listening to the radio or something. Just a little time-waster.

The distance between the Earth ant the moon was realistic, but that will probably be the last thing in Noby Noby Boy that can be called realistic. If the next stop is Mars and they use the real distance between the moon and Mars, if this game somehow manages to defy all logic and stay exactly as active as it is now, it will take like five years or something.
JAH75157 @ Feb 23rd 2009 6:38PM
i like hanging halfway off the planet so i snap in half.

this game is epic. everyone get to work! stretch! stretch! stretch!
Scotsman-15 @ Feb 23rd 2009 7:32PM
Just incase anyone else still needs to find the prince the moon is the perfect place! I was just going through the maps and came across a map where the inhabitants were all the prince! I thought it was quite funny because i've been looking so long and then when i eventually find one there is another 20 lol :P
Surely someone has put a video on youtube, anyway just thought i'd give you a heads up :)
Dehshizknight @ Feb 23rd 2009 8:02PM
I totally want this game!!! Can't wait to download it when I get my PS3 back from Play N Trade.
Dionisio @ Feb 23rd 2009 8:18PM
I confirmed it yesterday by finishing up 2 or 3 podcasts in a sitting: Noby Noby Boy is the next best podcast "game".

This game looks so fun, I have no idea why I haven't bought it yet. Gotta get to it.
ryuk @ Feb 23rd 2009 8:51PM
wow, i had no idea that the actual user all together made girl grow, that is a very cool idea
Eric @ Feb 24th 2009 1:40AM
this game seriously surprised me so much. It is ridiculous in every way and makes me laugh like no other. In fact its even entertaining SOBER. I was sitting down to have a go and did not realize had just been sitting there trying to grow BOY for just over 2 hours! I have no idea why this little "game" is so entertaining. Perhaps it is because there is no real goal and no pressure. Flower was cool too, but I haven't picked it up after the first playthrough. This one I keep going back to! We need some more cheap gems like this.
garnsr @ Feb 23rd 2009 11:49PM
Hey, good reason to play some more. I thought there was supposed to be paid DLC in a few months, but I'll have to fire it up again and visit the moon.
Roto13 @ Feb 24th 2009 12:53AM
They said something about a big update, but they didn't say whether it'd be paid DLC.
Lookhappy @ Feb 24th 2009 5:41AM
I like the moon! I like the banana's that are just walking around, and the turtle people! ahhh noby noby girls skin is so soft! I wish my skin was that soft!
c. penguin @ Feb 24th 2009 8:20AM
♥ everyone for trying this game! + thank you, nobi-nobi damashii!
lol this game is so fun! especially, on occasion, stretching to music on the PS3 hdd!(just found out you could do that. got to play w/ EricB+Rakim, Cornelius,+DaftPunk!!!!!! lol)
*was doing the calculations as soon as NOBYNOBYBOY™ was released! so far, it's been as expected: reached the Moon in under 4 days, with about 31% doing the final stretching.. but, Mars seems impossible! lol 4-5 years?! though, still fun to try
~see you @ MARS!~.
Lucid734 @ Feb 24th 2009 8:32AM
Ummm, here's a weird question......Anyone else had their "rear-end" break off?...and then "eat it"..(lol) and it grows back?..lol THAT was worth $4.99 right there alone!
rinzai_subsidiary @ Feb 24th 2009 11:07PM
*with the current rate, Mars may take years longer to reach. at 50 to 60 million meters a day, it could take about 19 years!!!! (based on Mars' furthest distance from the Earth,- - though Mars seems to be getting 3 mi. closer about every 0.156 sec)
hope in the next 1½+ months the total of BOYs reaches 50,000!
[this game is like miffy + the large glass by duchamp lol] O=s=t=r=e=t=c==h=O♥♡♥♡

after a session of Uncharted in crushing difficulty, i've booted NNB to relax and check around the moon, a strange comparison between the games came to mind: One is a traditional action game, the other defies conventions of game design, but in the very end, stripping the game from clear objectives, stages, scores, it remains basically the same purpose, what are ANY videogames if not a fun way to kill time?
I remember enjoying more the later levels of katamari damacy, when you are allowed to grow huge, Noby Boy basically lets you start from the last stage, there are no limits and no pre-defined stretch goals, i wonder if katamari was like that from the start i would have enjoyed it more.
Noby Noby Boy isn't perfect, camera controls are clunky and i wish there were more to the AI in order to allow unpredictable interactions between boy and the inhabitants, but hey, for 5 bucks, it's a little experiment in game design that no one should miss.
Steven @ Mar 3rd 2009 12:08AM
I was on the moon, and some little spaceship made of blocks grabbed the center of my torso and started flying around with it. It was dragging poor Noby Noby Boy around, and I finally had to eat the spaceship. Such nonsense! I love it! I wish the things you ate actually made some sort of impact on the gameplay, though.
