GDC09: No comment on PS3 version of The Last Remnant

Square Enix first announced The Last Remnant, its Unreal Engine-powered RPG, as a multiplatform title for Xbox 360, PC and PS3. With both 360 and PC versions out, some are wondering what happened to the PS3 version.

Hiroshi Takai from Square Enix spoke at GDC, commenting on his experiences working with an externally produced engine for a project targeted at a global market. Lackluster reviews in America led Takai to admit that the game was "scored too high" in Japan.

According to Gamasutra, Takai was asked about the PS3 version of The Last Remnant. Though noting that the PC version had just shipped, he said, "I can't answer for the PlayStation 3," We've requested an official comment from Square Enix, and will update when we get a response.

I guess Xbox360 was the testing ground for their new franchise? Please don't downvote me! (I hear you get up voted when you say that so testing to see if that's true)

The game was very buggy. I'm so glad I rented and not bought it. That was the first RPG I played and it made me hate RPGs even more. I like to expand my tastes so I'm hoping Final Fantasy 13 does it for me.

Personally, Ive been waiting for Last Remnant for ages. I was hoping that it would tide me over until FFXIII came out.

Right now I would be happy with a general release window. Im looking forward to this and Dragon Age

Buggy game or not, if this ends up getting dropped (and if it takes pushing Square to get a freaking answer to begin with!), I'm going to be pissed.

I really hope they will release it on PS3.
Even if I'm not that interested in the game, I would buy it to support RPGs on PS3.

no dont buy it because of that, the game sucks hard . buy white knight chronicles instead. and ffvxiii to the 360??? sorry aint gonna happen this time. 1 yr ps3 exclusive in the worst scenario . just buy a ps3

It's obvious Microsoft shelled out millions upon millions of dollars to get SE to give the shaft to the PS3. With all the commercial failures, I wonder how long Microsoft is going to continue to throw buckets of cash at them. Oh well, I guess one positive thing is that I can play it on my PC. If they did then so far its going to waste with The Last Remnant.. story is boring, characters are no where neeaaar interesting. This game is literally a fart from square compared to the masterpieces they make.

God, I don't care what the reviewers say, I want this game. It's my second most wanted game that I know about, and i've been looking everywhere for a release date or any information whatsoever

It just seems that the 360 is having to buy it's way for games.

They wave cash in front of Square and they put FFXIII on the 360 but only in america.

The target of the game is not the 360 as they are Halo Gears of war type players and they are not interested in a RPG kind of game!

Final fantasy is a Playstation game since 7 and I think that it should stay that way.

I get really tired of hearing that the PS3 version got canceled.

Last Remnet wasn't that great of a game anyhow.

But on the bright side Tecmo is release Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 on the PS3 with 2 new playabler chars and ONLINE co op multiplayer!

So there is hope for the PS3 and I think that when they see how many disk it will be for the xbox they will wonder what they got themselves into!

that's exactly why I'd rather play Japanese version which IS PS3 exclusive on FFXIII. I can wait until they make a Final Fantasy XIII International and buy it again so I would know the story of the game. I'm not playing the same version of Final Fantasy that's released on the 360, no way. Really low class...

It's not coming out. If they couldn't get the Unreal Engine 3 playing nice with TLR on 360, then there's no way in hell they'll be able to do it on PS3 either.

Just sack it and start a new project.

I got this game in the x360 bargain bin for $15 new. Installing it to the hard drive solves a lot of the tech problems, it's not a bad game though hardly a franchise starter for Squeenix-I see this and Infinite Undiscovery as one and one titles for them.

Any possibility that FFXIII Versus will release before FFXIII?

The Last Remnant was an excellent JRPG. Not releasing it on PS3 is just stupid.

And the guy from Epic complaining about the menus is an idiots. They were no more confusing or dense than your average JRPG. Though, considering the titles he's worked on, I'm not surprised at his inability to handle lists of words that learn to more words lists.

The ps3 needs more RPGs, but i think this should be a pass..... im not quite sure but isnt it harder to use Unreal 3 engine for the ps3? i mean if it ran buggy for the 360, imagine it for ps3..... ill stick to FF13/Versus, but im not diggin the character design so its guna be KH3 for me.
