The Lord of the Rings trilogy finally announced for Blu-ray
At last! Peter Jackson's incredible Lord of the Rings trilogy will finally be available in full 1080p for us to enjoy. According to Amazon.com, the Blu-ray package will be a seven-disc set featuring the theatrical editions of all three films. It looks like enthusiasts will have to either double dip, or wait an even longer time, before the extended editions appear on Blu-ray.
No technical specifications nor release date in sight, but the MSRP for all three films is $99.98. (It will obviously be much cheaper than that at most retailers.)

How embarrassing!
Jnas @ Apr 17th 2009 12:37PM
HAHAHA OMG SO FUNNY.
COS IT'S "BLU-ARY" INSTEAD OF "BLU-RAY".
THAT'S LIKE, THE FUNNIEST THING I'VE EVER SEEN.
HAHAHA.
no.

The milking of the ring.
I was excited by the headline, but it's frustrating that they're not releasing both the theatrical and extended at the same time.
JoeTheBlow @ Apr 17th 2009 2:31PM
Someone should be *murdered* for this outrage!
Refusing to release the proper, extended editions, or even have auto-chapter things going so you can have them both on one disc, is nothing more than a shocking rape of consumers.
SHOCKING! I hope no-one at all buys it, but alas i probably hope too much.
j.howlett @ Apr 17th 2009 12:03PM
it's as much as a game.
WhiteSpy @ Apr 17th 2009 12:16PM
I'll wait for the extended editions. I jumped the gun early on the DVD's and already own the theatrical releases. I still haven't seen the extended versions.
dabamf @ Apr 17th 2009 12:22PM
It's well worth it to wait IMHO. All three extended versions are great, with the Return of the King's version being absolutely amazing.
davebo @ Apr 17th 2009 12:35PM
I agree with dabamf. As long as these movies already are, the extended ones are still worth watching. I'm willing to wait for the blurays of those.
dabamf @ Apr 17th 2009 12:20PM
I will wait...
PSN: John-Paul-Jones @ Apr 17th 2009 12:21PM
Hmm, I doubt it will be cheaper than $100 at retailers
Andrew Yoon @ Apr 17th 2009 12:24PM
Well, it's already $70 on amazon.com.

I don't like Lord of The Rings or Harry Potter than much...but Graphically in HD they are BEAUTIFUL. Which is why I own all the Harry Potter Movies on Blu-ray and Pre-ordered this as soon as I seen the e-mail this morning.
Can't Wait for Star Wars to be released on Blu-ray somewhere around 2012. if Lucas decides to release it that is...
Feba @ Apr 17th 2009 12:38PM
If?

Yea, IF. Lucas & Spielberg are 2 of a few people that own ALL the rights to their movies and thereby the Studios cant just Release it when they want to. Lucas is a character in the sense he doesnt feel the need to re-release it unless he can make a significant improvement of it. Which is what he did back in the late 90's and again with the Re-release in 2005.. Some people are speculating that it MAY be released on Blu-ray for the 30th Anniversary in 2012 but no one really knows yet. Lucas could just as easily say forget it and put it off entirely. 2 or 3 years ago they were allegedly experimenting with putting it in 3D. If they are still thinking about doing that then Blu-Ray may just be the portal they use to do that. Lets just hope
sirpilf @ Apr 17th 2009 12:59PM
extended cuts? anyone?
Xeones25 @ Apr 17th 2009 1:06PM
I'll be waiting until I can get the extended editions collection for $60.
I will never pay more than $20 for a movie. I normally will not pay more than $10, I'm extremely cheap when it comes to movies.

Finally! I get to see Gandalf's beard in it's true glory!
Dr. Strangepork @ Apr 17th 2009 2:55PM
and why does this need to be on 7 Blu-Ray discs when the extended version was on 6 regular DVDs (not including extra content discs)
I.AM.IRON.MAN @ Apr 17th 2009 5:39PM
great. now i can be bored to death in 1080p... thank god Del Torro is directing The Hobbit; peter jackson is one of the worst directors ever.
When is Terminator coming to region 2 blu-ray?
LegendaryRedass @ Apr 17th 2009 5:49PM
I didn't even know the extended editions were so long. I figured 20-30 minutes. Then I saw RotK on netflix, it's like 4 1/2 hours long. I have got to see these. I'll wait until they release the ext. versions. It'll be like waiting for Xmas.
As far as Star Wars, it might be a while. The first 3 will need a lot of work to hold up to blu-ray. Some of the effects, like when Han was talking to Jabba didn't hold up on DVD. And you know Lucas is going to probably re-re-release them in theaters, then put out "special versions" on DVD, and after those sales taper off, we'll get a stripped down blu-ray before the real one comes out 6 months later.
Bobulous @ Apr 17th 2009 6:30PM
Damn you Warner Brothers. Damn you all to hell.
Jzone @ Apr 22nd 2009 8:55PM
I can't see any comments!!!!
