Advent Children Complete sells over 100k copies in Japan
Looks like bundling the Final Fantasy XIII demo with Advent Children Complete did the trick. Square Enix's Blu-ray exclusive extended edition of the Final Fantasy VII movie sold 100,000 copies in its first day of sales in Japan. According to Kotaku, this ranks the disc above any Blu-ray anime released in 2008. The top selling disc was Macross F, which managed to sell around 35,000 copies. Advent Children Complete easily topped that.
If Sony Pictures is looking to recreate the sales success here in America, they better figure out a way to localize that demo. We're certain the upcoming US release of Advent Children Complete will look a lot more attractive if it had an English language demo of FFXIII -- wouldn't you agree?

All they need to do is translate the menus and add subtitles.... I'd be a happy camper if they did that!

I'd buy it more for the demo than the movie. the movie was ok... but not exactly top quality in my opinion. definitely a B movie. On the other hand, It's worth owning, and if it came out during a good time before the game (say christmas present), then I'd definately look into it seriously.

Got mine yesterday. Not really bothered about the demo, just wanted to see AC in HD and I wasn't disappointed. Top notch film and an English language track, to boot. Sweet as.
10/10 again, Squenix.

I want to play the demo mainly to try Final Fantasy. I hated RPGs until I bought Mass Effect last week. I know JRPGs aren't the same as western RPGs but FFXIII might be the game that clicks for me.

Dude I would so like to buy your demo off of you if you are not that much interested in it? Call your price...
RagingStormX @ Apr 20th 2009 11:01PM
wanna sell your copy of the demo?
Nick @ Apr 20th 2009 10:40PM
The film is not very good and I think most people can agree. It's not edging out The Godfather II or Pulp Fiction any day, anyway.
That being said, I love this movie. I do not love it enough, however, to buy it again without the demo included.

So, the problem with Advent Children is that the FFVII title is attached to it. It's a cool CG movie, but because it's technically the sequel to FFVII, I just can't get into it. I friggin LOVED VII, definitely my favorite in the series, and I think they should have just left it alone. As much as I'd like a proper now-gen remake, I'd even be worried that it, too, wouldn't live up to my expectations.
Like, seriously, I rented FFVII and Duke Nukem 3D on the same weekend. This is how much I was into RPG's at the time, and you can see why it took my by surprise...

even with localizing the Demo. I Honestly dont think that it will sell that much here in the US. not on the first day anyways.

You know I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft c*ckblocks this and moneyhats the demo so that it comes out on both systems simultaneously in the U.S.
ProgHead @ Apr 21st 2009 2:46PM
With Microsoft anything can happen!!! But they cant ruin that the first ever demo of ff 13 will only be available for ps3 if available at all in the U.S.
Now how about this release with subtitles so I can buy it here in europe and see advent children in all its glory?
Melodic_MetalX @ Apr 21st 2009 5:48PM
Wow In Surprised!!.... Well Not Really, It Was To Be Expected, You Know How The Japanese Love FF.
... Oh! And On Another Note I Would Like To Send A Very Special "FUCK YOU" To Harmony Gold, Because Of Those Fuckers We'll Probably Never See Another Macross Tittle In The States Again, Seriously!! That Robotech Movie Was Awful!! It Almost Made Me Vomit With Rage!!!.
DrunkRaba @ Apr 21st 2009 7:34PM
I was going to get it if it had the demo, otherwise I will just wait for the price drop as I still want the movie itself.
Bert @ Apr 25th 2009 3:07AM
Humberto from AnimeNews here, just wanted to add that another reason for the high sales volume for the movie has to do with pricing.
The regular edition of the movie without the demo is priced at around US $38 for retail in Japan, with the Limited Edition demo bundle going for around $80, so it makes sense that the majority of the volume would be from the gamers going for the higher profit margin demo, with the rest of the volume being made up of sales from people who want the movie on Blu-Ray for the new footage.
I appreciate the link love and I'm a big fan of the site as well.

u dont need 2 translate the menus it has most of it in english and as for the film its english dubbed aswell (i should know i own it lol) but import it from japan its worth it
