Battlestar Galactica: The Complete Series coming to Blu-ray this year
The hit Sci-Fi (er, SyFy) series, Battlestar Galactica, is finally coming to Blu-ray. The show made a brief appearance on the now-defunct HD DVD format, but Blu-ray fans have been left in the cold for quite some time. Online retailer amazon.com recently started taking pre-orders on the box set, which appears to include all four seasons, for a MSRP of $349.98 (thankfully, most retailers don't actually sell media at MSRP).
The Caprica DVD supposedly includes a promo for the complete series on Blu-ray. According to TheHDRoom, the box set is pegged for a July 28th date, so sci-fi geeks willl want to start saving up pretty soon.

Even though I have seasons 1-4.0, I'll probably get this. This also means season 4.5 is coming out pretty soon too.
I had to watch these on the crappy space channel we have here in Canada the first time around, so rewatching them in BR would be a completely different experience.

Frakkin wonderful. Price would need to come down a fair bit though, and I wouldn't mind individual seasons too.
Queue pointless and spoilerific discussion of the finale in 3...2...1...

Dumbledore Dies!
Oh... wrong finale...

How nice.. Now we all can see this series fall apart in 1080p. The first season was amazing and followed by a decent second that showed some writers fatigue pop up there and here. Then the finale of that one that created a giant wtf end.
Didn't those robots BLOW UP several planets worth of humanity with the clear goal of Total Annihilation?! Hills of freshly irradiated cooked skulls? With no clear reason in the first place? There's a actual explanation near the end that sorta makes sense.. but seriously, the end where...ugh.
If they do release seasons independently, I would buy the first one hands down and treat it like the original series as an incomplete classic.

Are you sure you've been watching the right show?

I mostly agree with you. Season 2.0 (not 2.5) was fantastic. There were a few shady episodes in 2.5 like Black Market that sucked.
Season 3 at first was acceptable, because I thought Season 4 would answer the questions. However, in retrospect, Season 3, aside from the few main storyline episodes, was a complete waste of time. Season 4.0 was similar, and Season 4.5 was the worst. 7/10 episodes were completely forgettable. Only the finale and mutiny episodes were good.
The problem was that in S1 and S2 (and the very beginning of S3), the cylons were the enemies, and the whole story was on humanity's survival. S3 and S4 were based around supernatural events and cylon individualism, and it focused more on characters than the end goal: surviving. To me the last two seasons didnt really have any direction.
Although I did enjoy the finale very much.

YES! Battle Star Galactica is my favorite sci-fi TV show. I loved the beginning, the middle, and end of the series. I never bought a complete set or a season for any TV show before. So say we all.

Galactica fans should watch last week's CSI. No, really.

BSG in HiFi is nothing to get your knickers in a bunch about.
The quality of the HD DVD is pisspoor. I honestly can barely notice a difference between SD and HD.
Everything I've seens shows that it's just as effective to pop the SD into your DVD player and let the upscaling do its business, because the cost increase to go BRD or HD DVD just isn't worth it. Tons of film grain, etc.
And if they make the packaging anywhere like they did the 1st season on HD DVD, I will smack them with a stick myself. Really, why??

Dude, it's 2009.

Thank you, Captain Calendar. I forgot about that.
Point is, HD quality is shit, no better than SD. There's no point dropping that much money on quality that's no better than SD.
