Why David Jaffe's still working with Sony
After David Jaffe got his independence from Sony, it seemed like a given he'd branch out to some other platforms. In a new video, the dev explains why he's still sticking with Sony, rather than a big, multi-platform third party. Not only does he just like the PS3 better, he added that "we have a great collaborative process going on when we make games [with Sony] and we have a lot of creative freedom."Jaffe also says he believes that Sony's more likely than a third-party publisher to greenlight a game that may not necessarily be profitable, but pushes the platform brand forward, specifically mentioning Shadow of the Colossus, Ico and LittleBigPlanet. Lest there be any confusion, Jaffe says he's not working on anything like that. In fact, he describes his new project as a "big commercial game." We think we speak for everyone when we say we can't wait to see what he has cooking, no matter who's publishing it.

David Jaffe is the man.
That picture though, makes him look like Officer Dangle's (Thomas Lennon) kid brother.
MariusElijah (Only on PlayStation 3) @ Apr 20th 2009 6:29PM

JuanDHexen @ Apr 20th 2009 8:21PM
Yeah I smell it too and it smells freaking sweet.

How many times does Jaffe have to answer these stupid why sony questions. He's commented on it so many damn times already so why do xbots keep whining about his own personal preferences. Get over it people, its his choice.
Silverthorn @ Apr 20th 2009 6:53PM
Little Big Planet has sold over 2 million copies and has definitely been profitable. Get your facts straight.
ANTHATESYOMAMA @ Apr 20th 2009 6:55PM
Come to the darkside of the PS3! Forget about the shiny light of the XBOX! No but really I thought he signed a contract, so I think sony owns hiss ass anyway.
IvorB @ Apr 20th 2009 7:24PM
We already know that it's Twisted Metal. There's been a teaser site and everything. I'm sure I read that on this very blog.

FINALLY, someone that actually matters says something about the better interface, exclusives, etc.
mgsrocks1 @ Apr 20th 2009 8:00PM
David Jaffe is one of the creative, honest, and passionate game developers. I wish if all developers had the same sense of honesty.
JuanDHexen @ Apr 20th 2009 8:24PM

Forelli_Boy @ Apr 20th 2009 10:14PM
Or is it because he's really the only big-name game guy they have left until they can foster one of the indie names into something that will also help their system/s carve out a substantial slice of the console/handheld pie outside of Japan?
Dahk @ Apr 21st 2009 12:31AM
You mean other big name people like, Hideo Kojima, Alex Evans, Ted Price, and Evan Wells?
Lol fine, only one of them is really a third-party. But still...
Forelli_Boy @ Apr 21st 2009 1:54AM
But still, no PS3 exclusive has topped the charts (and I mean #1, not just Top 10) this generation outside of Japan. As much as indie games appeal to people like us on Joystiq, we often fail to remember that we are a minority when it comes to video game purchases. It's these #1s that really influence these so-called console wars (emphasis on so-called, but you get the point.)
That said, GOW III is probably Sony's best shot in the near future at getting an NA/EU #1 title, especially since it comes from a hit franchise from the last gen, something Killzone 2 wasn't (but Yakuza was in Japan). All SCEA/SCEE need to do is actually get the marketing right, which they appear to be doing.

Wow, where and why the hell do people make these assumptions as if they're consultants for Sony, like DAMN!
ProgHead @ Apr 21st 2009 3:02PM
Lets hope its a twisted metal 3. Or something new that kick ass like god of war games. Jaffe, start working on something creatively interesting NOW!!!!
