Warner Bros. offers Blu-rays for your HD DVDs
If you were one of those crazy, pie-in-the-sky HD DVD adopters (like one of those Microbots), know that Warner Bros. has offered to take your HD DVDs and supply you with fresh Blu-ray versions of those movies. It's not all on the arm, however, as there is a $4.95 upgrade fee for each disc. When you think about it, the $5 is a lot less than actually buying the Blu-ray, so it's not that bad. Of course, your only option aside from all of that is to never watch the movie again and, really, who can live without August Rush? We know we can't!

HAAS599 @ Apr 22nd 2009 3:35PM

Lachadonan @ Apr 22nd 2009 3:38PM

I could jsut keep my $5 and watch the HD-DVD's that I have on my HD-DVD player. Seriously why in the world would I want to pay to get rid of a perfectly fine disc just to get the same thing back but in a blue box instead. Silly.
MariusElijah (Only on PlayStation 3) @ Apr 22nd 2009 4:08PM
Why is this only in the Playstation stiq? I would assume most of us got Blu-Ray from the get go
jalannom @ Apr 22nd 2009 4:11PM
I was also wondering if they could also replace my HD-DVD player to Blueray player for $4.95.

Never Watch it again?? I'm sure some people still have their HD-DVD players/add-ons. Makes me want to look on eBay for "The Lord of The Rings" Trilogy on HDDVD and see how much it is...lol
jarhead906 @ Apr 22nd 2009 4:21PM
Not too shabby...
Dehshizknight @ Apr 22nd 2009 4:31PM
Is this only for Warner Bro. movies? Because I have an unopened Transformers collectors HD-DVD that someone got me for Christmas.
Levi @ Apr 22nd 2009 4:52PM
I haven't checked prices, but I wonder if getting the HD-DVD and sending it in for the Blu-Ray would turn out to be cheaper in most cases.
KinjiroSSD @ Apr 22nd 2009 5:08PM
Better than nothing I suppose
Nick @ Apr 22nd 2009 5:22PM
Wow.
If I didn't pay $5/each for my HD DVDs, I might go for this. But seeing as WB was clearing out EVERYTHING through places like WM, I don't think I can justify it without there being an upgrade to the BluRay.
But very, very cool of WB to do.

very good idea for a service. I'm surprised it'd make any money though, isn't the royalty for blu ray larger than that?
I do find it ironic that it's an "upgrade" to Blu ray - make's me laugh at all the old arguments I've had with people about whether they are equal or not.
NightHawk @ Apr 22nd 2009 6:05PM
fair enough
Twinturbo120 @ Apr 22nd 2009 6:12PM
Now we're talking
lamebob @ Apr 22nd 2009 6:21PM

So buy a bunch of HD-DVDs off e-bay, exchange and win?
LongJon @ Apr 22nd 2009 7:03PM
Sweet
cookiemonster122 @ Apr 22nd 2009 7:15PM
Don't think I'll bother paying over the top prices for what is basically a HD DVD in the first place, think I'll just download the movie of my choice to my own disc like the rest of the world
Kinsey @ Apr 22nd 2009 7:34PM
Is there a Canadian site for this. I have a bunch of Warner HD-DVD I wanna trade but it's American only at the check out.
uh-oh polio @ Apr 23rd 2009 2:23AM
not a bad deal
Nineteen88 @ Apr 23rd 2009 2:58AM
Serves you right! HD-DVD adoptors.
Elmoogle @ Apr 23rd 2009 3:19AM
Pretty cool thing for Warner to do, especially since they basically ended the format war. It'd cost me $128 bucks to replace all of mine, so I don't think I'll actually do all of them. It'll be great to replace all of those terribly broken combo discs though.
digitaltre @ Apr 23rd 2009 10:12AM
I love that movie!
EwanJL @ Apr 23rd 2009 11:16AM
Correct me if im wrong, but I read this elsewhere already, and I believe the offer is to send in the cover-slip of the HD-DVD, rather than the disk itself. As such, you would end up with both a HD-DVD and Blu-ray copy of the title, which i guess has its uses... perhaps
