Capcom bringing Fate/Unlimited Codes to US as PSN-exclusive
We're a bit surprised by this news, considering the bizarre origins of the Fate series. The franchise has expanded to a number of mediums, but it originally started as an adult visual novel. (That's a classier way of saying "animated porn," folks.) Don't expect anything too risque in the PSP game though -- it's rated T for Teen.

Wow, that was unexpected... I bought the PS2 version last winter and just put my preorder down on the PSP version, guess I can cancel that preorder now.
michael @ Apr 28th 2009 6:08PM
All right, a Fate/Stay Night video game coming to the PSP for the American market. I'm sure the fan of this anime would love this.
Archeia @ Apr 28th 2009 6:37PM
But how about us with epicly bad bandwith? D:
I can't download something so big :
Libra1989 @ Apr 28th 2009 6:35PM
didn't you guys say that this was another psp game we weren't going to play
Andrew Yoon @ Apr 28th 2009 7:06PM
Yep, we even linked to that article. Hence the surprise!
Josh @ Apr 28th 2009 7:15PM
I will never pay attention to anything that starts as an ecchi title (without good reason for being an ecchi title).
I can just never take them seriously.
MunkyAU @ Apr 29th 2009 12:38AM
You should look into what the term "ecchi" means and what something in the "ecchi" genre involves. Also, actually knowing what the source material (the F/SN visual novel) is wouldn't hurt.
You wouldn't (i hope) disregard a good film because it has a sex scene in it either, Same deal here.
>but it originally started as an adult visual novel. (That's a classier way of saying "animated porn," folks.)
Visual novels aren't animated, unless you count slide transitions and such as animation. ;)
Kia @ Apr 29th 2009 11:51AM
Dude, your loss. Fate/Stay Night is incredible.
Josh @ Apr 29th 2009 12:10PM
Why is it an ecchi title, though?
Nanatsuya @ Apr 29th 2009 3:33PM
You really fail to understand just what Type-Moon really is...If you've ever watched any anime within the last 3-4 years, whether it be Bleach or Hayate the Combat Butler, you've felt the influence of Type-Moon. With Fate Stay/Night standing at the forefront of Type-Moon's commercial franchises, to say you can't take it seriously means you consider much of the modern anime and video game culture of Japan to be moot. Keep in mind that the original Fate Stay/Night debuted in 2004 and was marked as the best selling video game in Japan for two years. Name any other franchise that has this much staying power four years after it's original debut.
Josh @ Apr 29th 2009 7:26PM
What the *fuck* are you talking to me about? I asked a simple question, where's my answer?
Archeia @ May 2nd 2009 3:14AM
Fate/Stay Night is an adult game, the original version is that it has H scenes but it has been remade for the ps2 for the all age version. So technically there's no real H scenes at all or ecchi to begin with
Josh @ May 2nd 2009 12:04PM
"What the *fuck* are you talking to me about? I asked a simple question, where's my answer?"
Jeez, I got mad. >.>
But why was the original an eroge? What was the purpose of making it an eroge?
lolipedofin @ Jun 2nd 2009 8:20PM
The group started off as a doujin eroge maker... Fate/Stay Night was their first commercial work, after releasing the doujin game Tsukihime...
As for why they choose to release F/SN as eroge, I don't know how to answer except that being their choice.... Maybe as their stepping stone, to first gather fans before they release more non ero stuffs... Because since the FATE franchise, their 2 upcoming games, Mahotsukai no Yoru and Girl's Work are slated to be non-ero Visual Novel..... So yeah, maybe they release them as eroge just to gather their fanbase first.... But then again, it could be that they simply enjoy making eroge... ^^:
Please do note though, that before even Tsukihime, they already gather popularity and attention, although not widespread, for their Kara no Kyoukai Light Novel.... yes, the popular Heptalogy movies... that's still on theater in Japan....
To dismiss this title just because it contains ero-material is normal to do, especially for people who are not familiar with the depth of eroge business in Japan.... There's some that's downright cheap porn like Rapelay that has been gathering attention due to it's appearance at Amazon UK, which is indeed distasteful... but there's plenty eroge out there that worth to try... that actually has a good literary content, or at the very least could provide high entertainment value... Fate/Stay Night is on of them...
It has amazing depth, engaging and unexpected storyline, high quality artwork, music and sound effect as well... It is the best selling Visual Novel in history in Japan after all... although it might have been surpassed by Little Buster....
Here's some title that you might not know that was originally an eroge, as well some people that involves in making eroge... provided, I hope you are also an anime addict, apart from being gamer....^^
Kanon and AIR. Made by Key, the same people who made CLANNAD... including CLANNAD these 3 titles had achieved legendary status... Kanon and AIR might surprise people (including me) when they knew it was an eroge...
Shuffle!. By Navel, might not be too surprising to knew it was an eroge... but still, quite a good story and franchise...
Magical Lyrical Nanoha. Believe it or not, this is a spin off from a popular eroge, Triangle Heart
other titles such as Da Capo, To Heart, Utawarerumono, Tears to Tiara, Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, etc.
Noizi Ito. The illustrator of popular titles such as Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu and Shakugan no Shana. She had already and still is illustrating for various eroge by Alice Soft, such as Flyable Heart and Nanatsuiro Drops.
Tony Taka. This dude is more famous for indeed being ero-doujin mangaka... but He also illustrated popular mainstream game namely Shining Tears and Shining Wind. For eroge, he is the main illustrator for Sora no Iro Mizu no Iro...
Kiyotaka Haimura. Illustrator for recently popular To Aru Majutsu no Index. He was the illustrator for eroge, Yume Miru Kusuri.
Wel,, I guess that's all... sorry for such a long comment, longer than the post itself... But always glad to share my passion for eroge... =D I just hope you read it and understand what I'm trying to convey...^^

you're missing out on a lot of good stuff then. Melty Blood is a really good fighting game and is based off Tsukihime an "ecchi" title by Type-Moon. Fate Stay/Night also by Type-Moon has 2 other great psp fighters (Fate Tiger Colosseum, and Colosseum Upper both very similar to power stone) under its belt. Tears to Tiara was an eroge that turned into an anime series and a PS3 RPG. So yeah avoiding anything that started out as an adults only title is kinda shooting yourself in the foot when it comes to good import titles. Then again, I may eat my words if they come out with a Bible Black fighting game.
hector88 @ Apr 28th 2009 8:08PM
err this was a reply to Josh.
Josh @ Apr 29th 2009 12:11PM
Oh yeah, eroge's probably the word I wanted.
So, why do some franchises start out as eroge? Does the ecchi stuff in them have artistic value?
Randall @ May 3rd 2009 5:04AM
No thanks I don't want a Bible Black fighting game. In fact if that did happen I would have to hide in a cave for a few months. But seriously though there are plenty of good visual novel to video game series like Air, Kanon, Clannad, Fate/Stay Night, Tears to Tiara, To Heart, Utawareumono, Higurashi, and so on.
PN04 @ Apr 28th 2009 9:15PM
Are you serious? a THIRTY DOLLAR DOWNLOAD??? Go to hell seriously, It's nice to see a Fate game in the US but that's just batshist INSANE, FK NO, PASS.
Pzykotik @ Apr 29th 2009 12:27AM
Calling Fate/Stay Night and Tsukihime "animated porn," is really rather unfair - FSN has a sum total of about a half-hour of hentai scenes (with the important stuff censored) in about 50 hours of game (or "game read," since this is a visual novel). Anyone who wanted to use FSN or Tsukihime for getting off would be sorely disappointed, because there simply aren't very many scenes at all in either to make it worthwhile.
Shadow_Modder @ Apr 29th 2009 1:44AM
Is it just me, or the music has a Castlevania'ish feeling to it?
Tim @ Apr 29th 2009 9:33PM
Should I take this as a sign that Capcom has stealth plans to acquire Type Moon, and bring Melty Blood here to the States, seeing how Capcom is the publisher, as Type-Moon is the IP owner, and cavia is a co-developer?
Randall @ May 3rd 2009 4:55AM
You know it is quite hard to say if Melty Blood will even come to the states not to mention that there are other Fate/Stay Night games that still need a U.S. release. But maybe if this one sells more then Capcom hopes for then it is qute possible. I for one would love some Melty Blood and being able to play it with english text. And then I hope that the people at Alchemist can bring over Higurashi to the states as well but I guess we really need to keep PS2 and PSP alive as much as possible if we really want stuff like this to ever see an American release. Though I do have to say $30 UMD-less is kind of pushing it but I am sucker for games like this that barely even had a chance to make an American release at all and yet by some miracle it is.
gigbot23 @ May 13th 2009 12:21AM
Just saw this so I just had to comment.
Wow.
$30 is steep but if it will open the floodgates to more English versions I'm willing to shell out.
@Josh: All I can say is "sex sells."
Especially in Japan.
